# survival warehouse what is a survival

Future lifetime at a given time t 0 {\displaystyle t_{0}} is the time remaining until death, given survival to age t 0 {\displaystyle t_{0}} . Thus, it is T − t 0 {\displaystyle T-t_{0}} in the present notation. The expected future lifetime is the expected value of future lifetime. The probability of death at or before age t 0 + t {\displaystyle t_{0}+t} , given survival until age t 0 {\displaystyle t_{0}} , is just

What’s nice is you can get a collapsible one, and they weight nearly nothing and take up minimal space. I keep on in my backpack for my dog. He can drink out of a collapsible bowl but not straight out of a water bottle.

I love these things. This WetFire product is very lightweight, easy to ignite, and it has a long burn time. Each cube weighs just .16 ounces and is capable of burning up to 10 minutes at temperatures around 1,300°F. They work in wet and windy conditions with ease. They even float and keep burning, even while floating in water. I’ve been bringing these little waxy cubes out for show-and-tell during survival classes for several years, and I’ve always observed impressive results in the field, regardless of the weather. In my most recent tests, a cube burned for 9.5 minutes on a very damp day—twice the burn time of the homemade alternative (Vaseline-soaked cotton balls). The flame was also much taller than the petroleum jelly on a cotton ball. Several spikes from the WetFire cube were 9 or 10 inches tall, which is twice the height of the flame from a greasy cotton ball.

In arctic or alpine areas, survival kits may have additional cold weather clothing (winter hats and gloves), sleeping bags, chemical hand warmer packets, sun glasses/snow goggles, snowshoes, a collapsible shovel, a snare wire for small animals, a frying pan, a camp stove, camp stove fuel, a space blanket, matches, a whistle, a compass, tinder, medical equipment, a flint strike, a wire saw, extra socks and a tent designed for arctic use.

Of course, every survivalist is different and has different needs. Thus, no two survival gear stockpiles or survival kits will look the same. Some will undoubtedly want to stay away from purchasing battery or electricity dependent gear, for instance, while others will want to go the hyper-minimalist route, only buying what they think they will really need (and perhaps be able to carry in a single backpack). Don’t feel pressured into extending your list of survival gear by buying something you don’t really think you’ll use. Instead, scan this list for items that you might have forgotten or think would really compliment your needs as a survivalist.

As we discussed above, staying warm is your priority. Adding insulation to your clothing is always a welcome idea. Dry leaves on the floor of the woods make excellent insulators. All you need to do is stuff them into your jacket. They form an insulating layer between your body and the outside cold air, trapping your body heat.

Survival Throwing Star-Knife: Here’s one for all you knife freaks & gurus. Ok, I know they make those metal throwing stars, but this baby can be used in multiple ways in a survival situation. As an individual hunting & throwing knive, a throwing star and as a spear head when attached to a stick for hunting game or spearing fish. To make one of these all you have to do is buy a set of those cheapo metal throwing knives, drill a few holes, make a few groves on the handle(s) so when you go to wrap some paracord around it to attach it to a stick it will hold it in place and not slide off. And then add four (4) screws, washers and wing nuts to keep it together until you need to use it.

An ice lens captures the sun’s light and focuses it onto one point, just like a magnifying glass. If that focal point gets hot enough, and if it’s focused on something dry and flammable, you get a flame. It’s such a simple concept, but put to work in a genius way. To form an ice lens, basically you take a chunk of ice and twist it around on the edge of a pipe. The circular pipe edge carves away the chunks and irregularities, and eventually you end up with a perfect ice sphere, which is essentially a rustic kind of Fresnel lens.

On the other hand, the fleshy part of rose hips can be used to treat constipation. The outer shell, on the other hand, provides lots of vitamin C. You can also make tea out of dandelions. The plant is edible as well.

Here’s a poem by the 13th century poet and scholar Rumi that I go right to whenever I need help to stabilize myself and feel good. It always makes me smile. Rumi describes life as like a ‘guest house’ where all kinds of things come and go and how we always have the choice to welcome it all, no matter what happens, and not to be a helpless victim. What does it say to you?

Hello! I would just like to add that I think that radiation pills, or Potassium Iodide pills, should be included on the list for prepping, and planning, just in case we go into a nuclear war. It may not help in the denser areas of radiation, but as its spreading throughout the country, it will prevent the heaviest symptoms.

The age at which a specified proportion of survivors remain can be found by solving the equation S(t) = q for t, where q is the quantile in question. Typically one is interested in the median lifetime, for which q = 1/2, or other quantiles such as q = 0.90 or q = 0.99.

We live in the modern age though — in many ways we have an advantage. Most people need those advantages because going from a wired world to the wilderness comes with a learning curve — one that can kill you if you’re not prepared.

The average adult human can survive up to three weeks, depending on the individual’s health, background, etc. as well as the environmental conditions within which the starvation is taking place. That being said, you cannot survive more then three days without water, so when you hike, always bring water, as you never can be too sure.

If you are fishing for food the wild, you can catch more fish if you cast your bait while facing into the wind. It is a known fact that 99% fish swim toward the wind. Fishing into the wind will allow you to cast a bait in front of the fish rather than behind.

Vaseline is pure petroleum jelly. If you have some Vaseline on your hands, you can make great fire starters (at over 400 °F or 200  . Just soak some cotton balls in Vaseline and keep them in a container. The cotton balls soaked in Vaseline burn quickly and for a long time.

Water storage at home, I don’t get fancy or spend much on it. I recycle two liter soda bottles. They’re far more durable and safer for longer term water storage than recycled milk jugs and juice jugs, and because they’re recycled they’re effectively “free” for their repurposed use. But also for me, that’s for more immediate usage. I’m a water treatment specialist, have a covered well on my property that I monitor and is safe to use (drinking from the toilet may taste better though), and the community well is about 100 yards away. I’m friends with the local water treatment specialist (I run a much larger neighboring water system), have a key to the facility, and I know the well is set up to be run from a tractor’s PTO in case of power loss and generator malfunction.

I wanted to get into commercial photography, but I didn’t know where to start. This workshop gave me the tools and inspiration I needed. It taught me so much about the business-side of commercial photography and how to market myself; however, the most valuable thing I took away is that your photography has to say something about who you are as an artist.

The Cox model extends the log-rank test by allowing the inclusion of additional covariates. This example use the melanom data set where the predictor variables include a continuous covariate, the thickness of the tumor (variable name = “thick”).
