In North America, animals that can potentially be dangerous to you if you don’t know how to avoid them or behave calmly around them include mountain lions, bears, coyotes and any animals carrying diseases such as rabies, hanta virus, etc. Most animals only attack if you threaten them or get between them and their young, or if you appear vulnerable in some way. Don’t scare the animals if you do come across them and keep away from them as much as you can. Read wikiHow’s articles on dealing with each animal should you need to.

Same as EVERYONE else (except the 1 tool that posted a 5 star & probably works there!). I ordered the everstryke match. $ gone, no product. Emailed & called. Empty promises & bullsh!t. This company is a HUGE SCAM. BEWARE!!! BBB gave them an F rating.
Survival skills are techniques a person may use in a dangerous situation (e.g. natural disasters) to save themselves or others (see also bushcraft). Generally speaking, these techniques are meant to provide the basic necessities for human life: water, food, shelter, habitat, and the need to think straight, to signal for help, to navigate safely, to avoid unpleasant interactions with animals and plants, and for first aid. In addition, survival skills are often basic ideas and abilities that ancient humans had to use for thousands of years, so these skills are partially a reenactment of history. Many of these skills are the ways to enjoy extended periods of time in remote places, or a way to thrive in nature. Some people use these skills to better appreciate nature and for recreation, not just survival.
Once you get a fire going, it is important to make provisions for the next one. You must make sure that the next fire that you start does not require the amount of work that was needed to start the first one. There are a couple of things that you can do to achieve it.
A man in Seattle has had his gun confiscated by police after breaking no laws. The police took his gun without a warrant and without pressing any charges. Tyranny has officially taken hold on American soil.
Not sure if I got this link from your site a while back or not. But, if not, this is a very useful disk. 12 bucks. The whole library of manuals published by the military. http://www.muddywaterpress.com/cd.html
Another alternative is to use an axe but since the objective is to build fires anyway, it doesn’t need to be perfectly chopped. However, if the wood material will be used for shelter building or creating other necessary pillars, using tools are a good idea. In fact, we put together a resource on how to make a survival shelter, given the popularity of this topic.
While I haven’t been prepping for very long in comparison to most of you, I’d like to think I’ve learned quite a lot over the years through mistakes I’ve made with prepping. Honestly, mistakes make some of the most valuable lessons resonate with you, even when you probably …
I love the story of the man, lost in the woods, who freaked out and began running, desperately looking for a way out. With his senses literally clouded by fear, he actually ran right across a road back into the woods to ultimately meet his death. This is certainly an extreme case, but it makes the point.
The ShippingPass assortment is continually being optimized. Products are added and removed for lots of reasons, but the main reason is to show items that we’re 100% sure we can deliver within the promised timeline.
Most of us have heard of vital signs or checking vitals at one point or another, and these are the go-to indicators that are used to assess basic functions of the body that are essential for our survival. They cover heart rate, blood pressure, respiration and temperature, and they normally fall within a specific range …
I want to break down the three blades I’ll be using for all my backwoods and innasticks work this year. I’ve explained some of the rationale behind my selections; now I want to show exactly what I’m carrying and how I expect they’ll fill all the to…

When choosing what rifle to recommend as one of the choices for Top 10 Survival Gear, I went to the experts at Outdoor Life. They know the hunting industry. They know guns. I have to say that the Marlin 336XLR comes in as a great choice for a hunting rifle specifically due to it’s accuracy. New hunters need as much help as they can get right? This 30-30 gets top billing for deer but in all actuality a 30.30. can take down just about any game animal in North America, including grizzly bears. Carry the right ammunition for the game you plan to hunt; don’t use the same ammo you would use to take down a deer (150 grain) as you would for a turkey or small game (100-125 grain).
Most ultralight emergency shelters allow condensation to build up inside as you get warm, leaving your clothes soaking wet. With the Escape Bivvy, condensation is no longer an issue. The proprietary fabric lets moisture escape as it keeps rain, snow and wind out, while reflecting your body heat back to you. Imported. Opened dimensions: 84L x 36W. Weight: 8.5 oz.
For serious wounds, shirt sleeves can be cut off and used as bandages if necessary. Remember to only tie them around a wound so that they are still loose enough to stick one or two fingers between the bandage and the appendage/body.
A running stream is your next best bet; the movement of the water reduces sediment. Be advised that drinking water from streams can lead to some sicknesses, but when you’re in a life-or-death situation, the risk of illness is a secondary consideration and anything you may get can be treated when you return.
I imagine their promos mostly get done via their email list and NOT on the website, that’s how most blogs making money from affiliate marketing do things – not through plastering ads all over the site.
His Tools For Survival: What You Need to Survive When You’re on Your Own (2014) is another non-fiction book drawn primarily from his SurvivalBlog.com posts. The publisher describes the book as a guide to the selection, use, and care of tools. It was released on December 30, 2014, by Penguin Books, and immediately jumped to #1 in Amazon’s Survival & Emergency Preparedness books category. The paperback book’s ISBN is 978-0-452-29812-5. It is also sold as an e-book and audiobook.
This knife has a 3.5-inch blade crafted from Sandvik 12C27 stainless-steel. The blade sits in a rubberized handle, which contains the hidden fire starter rod. The Swedish FireSteel firestarter is one of the best quality ferrocerium rods on the market. The cascade of 5,400°F sparks is plentiful and easy to strike, making it great for everyday campfire starting and survival purposes alike. Altogether, the knife, spark rod, and sturdy plastic sheath only weigh a little over 4 ounces. They are available in several color choices—I recommend the orange, red or pink color for safety and visibility.
