It doesn’t even have to be extreme cold, but if you carry them on your body or put them next to your body for a short period of time they will warm enough to be quite usable. Walmart carries a brand than I can’t think of the name of at the moment, looks almost identical to a bic, is every bit as reliable as one but cost half the price of less. Stay away from scripto and those like it.

Glow sticks can be life savers in survival situations. These are small sticks that are filled with a chemical substance that emits light when mechanical shock triggers a chemical reaction. I am sure you must have seen them at parties and such, but they are of great value to a survivalist.

Hellava list, Elise! Way too much for my brain to handle. 🙂 The Mora Companion goes with me in the woods as a neck knife and for finer bushcraft tasks. Though it’s not full tang, mine has taken a lot of abuse and keeps performing admirably. I plan on shaving with it in the bush one day.
However, you must be careful if you decide to consume wild plants, fruits or flowers. Some of these plants can be very dangerous and even poisonous if consumed. There is no definite way of telling whether a plant or fruit is toxic or not just by looking at it.
Any clue as to how much this would all weigh, should one have to carry the items on thier backs? This is a fairly large list, and some of the items could be this, OR this, OR this… A few things to add or coment about:
If you want a multi-tool for both urban survival and your firearms, you can purchase a Leatherman Tactical Multi-Tool, get superior construction also like the Swiss Tool mentioned above; be sure to get the the 40 bit add-on set. That’s 40 bits of various sizes; in an urban environment, you should be able to open just about anything you come across. It may get you into buildings. It may get you out of danger on more than one occasion.
So you’re stuck in an icy wasteland and you need a way to stay warm. Maybe the weather on your camping trip took a turn for the worst; maybe your plane crashed and you’re being methodically hunted by a pack of wolves; maybe you live in Detroit—but regardless of the predicament, what you need is a fire. Fortunately, the very thing that’s killing you can save your life: ice.
You have a freedom to choose your own purpose, and this pressure to choose can be viewed also as burden. When you feel you must find your purpose, you can look at your mind from distance and be conscious about it.

It’s the same with quite a bit of the gear on this list as well. Sure helpful to have a firesteel, but if you don’t know how to make sparks from it, it’ll be rendered practically useless. You’ll want to at least test out a lot of the gear you have to make sure you’ll know how to use it when you need to, and you’ll also want to use the gear enough so you’re sure it won’t break on you when you need it the most.

Almost all websites that generate over 1 million a month have clear business models where it’s obvious to see how they are generating their levels of income, especially if they are releasing data on their traffic and registered users. There shouldn’t be a question of only his bank knows how much he’s really making when you are at this level of revenue. A quick google search of survivallife did not bring me any forbes articles or legit websites praising them, all I found was articles questioning them, like I am now.
We’ve thought about doing a bug out bag guide so many times before it’d be impossible to count, but somehow in 4 years, still haven’t actually published one. The why comes down to the fact that, unlike comprehensive lists – like of all…
Don’t worry. As long as you know what time it is, you can still tell where north is. Simply draw an analog representation of the time on the ground and draw the lines from there. Cellphones are particularly useful in telling the actual time regardless where you are because mobile tech nowadays uses GPS to be able to tell the time of the day regardless of location. Of course, it’s always advised that a survivalist have a watch with them at all times.
A lot has been said on the web by hunters, hikers, and wilderness officers on the effectiveness air horns have had to scare off bears, specifically grizzly bears. The official data is that an air horn may or may not work. After hearing what multiple people have had to say with varying credentials, my conclusion is that an air horn might be effective to scare off a grizzly bear 80-90% of the time. People who have used it caution others to hold the horn down so that it makes a long, continued noise. Bear hearing is more sensitive than a human’s and that could be one reason why grizzlies have run at the sound of an air horn. Sometimes it may not work for you though — equipment failure may occur unexpectedly (we don’t live in a perfect world) or maybe a bear is simply too hungry or too angry. For these scenarios, have a back up plan.
We’ve received a lot of reader questions asking us how to prep for diabetes over the years. How many? I couldn’t possibly count. It’s a lot, and not all from preppers who are themselves diabetics either. We get a number of concerned relatives who are emailing because they …
The coming change of seasons from winter to spring has brought to mind two “fevers” that preppers need to be aware of and make plans for. While not actual, physical fevers caused by disease, the effects of “cabin fever” and “spring fever”…
What can I say about this remarkable resource? Very concise and comprehensive book on many aspects of survival in all environments. This book contains tons of useful information for just about any disaster situation you could find yourself in.
