Keep and Bear. A great documentary about a man who had never owned a gun who moves his family to Idaho. Once there, he becomes gun savvy, then a gun owner, and inevitably a part of the Gun Culture. Available for free streaming on Amazon Prime.

Most people don’t even think about basic survival skills as something they must acquire. Most of the people that I talk to believe that they will never end up in a ‘survival’ situation. I will tell you what I say those people; you don’t ‘plan’ to get into a situation like that! It just happens. And God forbid, should such a situation arise, you must be prepared.

On Monday, 21 August 2017, there will be a massive total eclipse of the sun, which will sweep across the U.S. beginning in Oregon about 10:18 a.m. Pacific Time and ending about 2:48 p.m. Eastern Time in South Carolina. Check … Continue reading →

That website also talks about how Ryan is NOT a prepper. He isn’t. He openly talks about how he created SurvivalLife as he recognised it as a fanatical niche where there was lots of money to be made not because he was interested in the niche.

A lot has been said on the web by hunters, hikers, and wilderness officers on the effectiveness air horns have had to scare off bears, specifically grizzly bears. The official data is that an air horn may or may not work. After hearing what multiple people have had to say with varying credentials, my is that an air horn might be effective to scare off a grizzly bear 80-90% of the time. People who have used it caution others to hold the horn down so that it makes a long, continued noise. Bear hearing is more sensitive than a human’s and that could be one reason why grizzlies have run at the sound of an air horn. Sometimes it may not work for you though — equipment failure may occur unexpectedly (we don’t live in a perfect world) or maybe a bear is simply too hungry or too angry. For these scenarios, have a back up plan.

Mini survival kits or Altoids tin survival kits are small kits that contain a few basic survival tools. These kits often include a small compass, waterproof matches, minimum fishing tackle, large plastic bag, small candle, jigsaw blade, craft knife or scalpel blade, and/or a safety pin/s. Pre-packaged survival kits may also include instructions in survival techniques, including fire-starting or first aid methods. In addition, parachute cord can be wrapped around the tin. The parachute cord can be used for setting up an emergency shelter or snaring small animals. They are designed to fit within a container roughly the size of a mint tin.

Where There is No Dentist – By giving a well-balanced mixture of illustrations and simple, succinct text in layman’s terms, the book provides valuable, hands-on advice for the most important oral health issues: oral health promotion in the community and basic oral care in low-resource settings. –Habib Benzian World Dental Federation (FDI)

Update: Water filtration companies are now producing portable water filters capable of filtering larger quantities of water and selling for a similar price as the Lifestraw, including Lifestraw’s own version of its latest portable water filter (compare products, specs, and reviews to help find the portable water filter that best fits your budget).

Now, there are three things needed to start a fire: fuel, oxygen and a spark. You have two of these in abundance in the wild. There is the almost unlimited amount of fuel in the form of twigs, branches, and dry leaves and there is oxygen all around. What you are missing is the spark or heat. So, let’s see what you can do to make that spark or heat happen.

James Rawles’ Survival Blog is probably the best known blog dealing with survival and preparedness topics on the web — and for good reason. As our number 1 spot on the top 10 list, The Survival Blog has a wealth of information with a large amount of the articles coming from guest writers. This allows many “experts” to voice their experience and skills over a wide range of topics that no one person could do by themselves.

The chomebook? I wrote in one comment that I think an iPod or even an unused touchscreen smartphone of any sort loaded with maps and info would be better. High storage capacity, small and portable, easily recharged with a solar charger. However, the NSA is likely the least of my worries in a survival situation. In a bug out survival situation, I may WANT someone to find me!

As per the perspective of a human being, we are born, we grow old and older and die. Only a lucky few will live to be a hundred years old. When we are born, instead of viewing it as WE come into existence, let us switch our perspectives and think that the world comes into existence for us. And when we die, the world is no more for us. So, for us its only that 100 years of world with everything in it. After I am gone, there is no world because there is no ‘me’ to behold it. So, my purpose of life should be to enjoy and stay happy in those 100 years instead of worrying to make the world a better place.

It is always good to keep a hand sanitizer in your survival kit, or better, in your pocket. However, make sure that a sanitizer that is alcohol-free or the one that is foam based won’t work for this purpose.

First you’ll need to find water. Water flows downhill, encourages vegetation, and collects in natural caches, be they ponds, lakes, rivers, springs, rock depressions, or even leaves. Unfortunately, most fresh water sources are not pure enough to drink from (as they used to be), so you’ll need to know how to purify water under most situations. Use any of these methods to collect clean, purified water:

Rawles is an outspoken proponent of family preparedness, especially regarding food storage[64] and advocates relocating to lightly populated rural retreat areas. His preparedness philosophy emphasizes the fragility of modern society, the value of silver and other tangibles for barter, recognition of moral absolutes, being well-armed, maintaining a deep larder, relocation to rural retreats, and Christian charity.[65] In an interview in The New York Times, Rawles identified himself as a guns and groceries survivalist.[66]

I ordered the Hoffman Richter Talon knife for $24.95 with a promised delivery date of 7-12 business days. I called for status at the 18 business day mark and was told the order was misplaced. They said my money will be refunded, but we’ll see. Although they list an Austin, Texas physical address and a phone number with the correct Austin, Texas exchange (512), the number connects to a customer service contractor company in the Philippines.

I have to admit it, I LOVE wilderness survival. I first began learning wilderness survival out of a deep, primal need to feel in my bones that I could provide for my most basic human needs directly from nature. It seemed crazy to me that my life was totally dependent on a complex system of grocery stores, polluted highways, telecommunication systems, electric grids, modern structures, water treatment plants, and more. I mean, shouldn’t we all be able to be in direct relationship with our most primary needs? Perhaps idealistic, but that is what inspired me to begin my journey to become a wilderness survival guide over a decade ago.

Fess up. Tell your doctor how needles make you feel; she might have you lie down to avert wooziness. (Seriously, make sure you tell the truth—here are some common lies patients tell their doctors all the time.)

– Intel – I just started using my old $80 Kindel to put my documents on (PDF) kind of a great idea – it also lightens the load. A great book to have – The BSA’s Field Manual (not the promotion stuff, the camping, first aid, survival stuff). At the end of the day, I want something a kid can understand…

Written by former SAS soldier and instructor, John Lofty Wiseman, this application brings you the elite training techniques of Britain’s toughest fighting force in the most accessible version ever. Now you can take the original set of world-class survival skills with you anywhere in the world – from the peaks of Kilimanjaro to the deserts of Kandahar…or to your closest national park.

One of the keys to surviving the wilderness is to keep yourself fed. All your survival efforts will be useless if you don’t have to energy to execute your plans. Although you can hunt or fish for food, both of them require patience and a degree of skill.

The P38 can openers, in my experience, are finicky and not as easy to use as the Swing-A-Way, but personal preference here. If I had to rely on a P38 or a the can opener on a swiss army knife for extended use I think I would go crazy!

Your job is to prevent any parasites in the animal bite from reaching the blood. Washing thoroughly can get rid of some pests reducing the parasite load. It gives your immune system a better chance to fight the infection.

Fiscal responsibility is gradually being returned to State budgets. Laws confirming our rights to home schooling, home birthing, home churching, freedom from forced vaccination, and Constitutional Carry (concealed carry of firearms without a permit), are steadily being enacted. Time and gradual demographic changes are on our side. The continuing in-flow of conservative and liberty-loving Christians and Jews from other states is unstoppable. We are winning, folks!

All yer apps! Y IN HELL WOULD I BUY? YOU HAVENT FIXED THE LANDSCAPE MODE IN THE PRO VERSION! None of your apps do landscape IN ALL VIEWS, get on it! NOT JUST READING VIEW, that’s FUBAR!! Then I will pay. Also, ALL pictures must be zoomable – currently only two sizes, and that doesnt work. Nobody would b able to read the tiny printing in illistrations – is thatstanding line? As in dead line, correct?

On cigarettes: the kinds in boxes wrapped in cellophane go stale fairly easily and quickly. Tobacco for cigarettes is sold in tin cans (size #5 I think) and often include rolling papers inside the can, but not filters. For many people, a non-filtered cigarette is better than no cigarette though. The tobacco stays fresher longer in a can (probably forever) and of course the can protects the tobacco better from the elements or from being squished than does cellophane.

The first line item. More than one source. Energy is energy. It does not go away. Gas in your car is burned making you go. Solar rays, can be used to generator electricity and/or to generate heat. So, a system that captures heat. Can turn the heat into steam, the steam into a motor- which spins a generator. Vice a solar panel into electricity. Sources can be the City generator electrical power (or steam etc). Diesel motors can be modified or purchased to run on more than one type of fuel. (Diesel, NPG, LPG, Propane)… Or if you have a water source a water wheel…. Multiple sources. How to spin the generator.

Here ya go folks, whether you know nothing or very little about survival. And or you just don’t have the time and money to buy and read a how-to survival book from cover-to-cover. These few survival tips of mine will save you time in learning the really important stuff about survival without the repetitive BS you’ll find on other sites. Better to know a few good survival skills than not to know any at all. Wouldn’t you agree? You betcha, now read on. .

Choosing the location – ideally, you want to build a fire on elevated grounds, such as a peak, top of a hill or ridge.  Clear the area so that the fire will not catch onto nearby twigs/other flammables. If it’s too difficult to clear the area of debris, then the next best option is to isolate the fire with stones to control the fire.

When choosing what rifle to recommend as one of the choices for Top 10 Survival Gear, I went to the experts at Outdoor Life. They know the hunting industry. They know guns. I have to say that the Marlin 336XLR comes in as a great choice for a hunting rifle specifically due to it’s accuracy. New hunters need as much help as they can get right? This 30-30 gets top billing for deer but in all actuality a 30.30. can take down just about any game animal in North America, including grizzly bears. Carry the right ammunition for the game you plan to hunt; don’t use the same ammo you would use to take down a deer (150 grain) as you would for a turkey or small game (100-125 grain).

Reaching for a multi-tool is as easy as simply finding one with pliers, and a Phillips screw driver, right? Actually that’s wrong. A Phillips screw driver might come in handy on several occasions but there are a lot more screw head types that call for special fittings. These special fittings can quickly take parts off vehicles, remove hardware around locking mechanisms, and remove ventilation coverings. A good multi-tool is essential to urban survival, is made of stainless steel, and can withstand years’ of use. If you’re going to be anywhere near an urban environment, look, at the Swiss Tool Spirit Plus. Here’s a multi-tool with 38 functions, including a bit wrench with 6 bits (important for screw heads that a Phillips or standard screwdriver will not fit).
