As for the Chromebook, it is extremely durable with no moving parts or vents (no screws either) and Google works for itself (chasing those green dollars), I am not too concerned about the NSA in a post collapse world.

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company’s size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm’s responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.
I was curious to know how anybody can store radio waves in a bracelet (or anything else), but Walchle was unable to be much help. Very hush hush, he implied. The Department of Defense is testing this technology and the bracelets for military applications. Who in the DOD specifically? And where? He could not tell me because of security issues. “Maybe I can get a letter from them just acknowledging they’re looking into it,” he said.

Previously here on NicheHacks.com I had a much nicer looking layout on the home page but bounce rate was high so I added double column posts and bounce rate dropped significantly. It doesn’t look as nice but that’s not what is important.
Good article but it’s missing survival hygiene products on the list. I can recommend shower-in-a-bag kits, soap bars, shampoo bars (yes they exist) and dental floss (useful for many things). I would not recommend deodorant with fragrance since it can scare away animals, and make it difficult for you to hide from attackers. Also another good trick I have is to carry handkerchief sized towels instead of bigger towels for purposes of drying yourself, because it saves space and if the towel gets too wet, just squeeze out the water and continue 🙂 hope this helps
They need to figure out a better plan to get things out and to their customers. This is going to cost them their business if they don’t do something different than their current shipping. Or maybe it’s in their warehouse and the workers just don’t work but are packaging one shipment a day. Goodluck if you make a purchase from them, I hope you get your item in a reasonable amount of time.

Your list is pretty good and pretty comprehensive. However, it seems a bit all over the the map. Maybe some further breakdown of home/car/BOB would be in order. Right now, my home and car kits are good, but I’m browsing the web for ideas on more or better gear for my BOB. And as I’m browsing through your list I see…
Same as EVERYONE else (except the 1 tool that posted a 5 star & probably works there!). I ordered the everstryke match. $ gone, no product. Emailed & called. Empty promises & bullsh!t. This company is a HUGE SCAM. BEWARE!!! BBB gave them an “F” rating.

It’s certainly part of your overall plan. I personally like to add extras like freeze-dried camping meals. They don’t weigh much and they’ll fill you up. For your home preps, ask yourself, “What if I run out of food (and grocery store day is tomorrow) when the roads go down?”

– Intel – I just started using my old $80 Kindel to put my documents on (PDF) kind of a great idea – it also lightens the load. A great book to have – The BSA’s Field Manual (not the promotion stuff, the camping, first aid, survival stuff). At the end of the day, I want something a kid can understand…
Another level in some preparedness plans are Vehicle Kits. In some cases, supplies and equipment may be loaded into vehicle such as a van or truck with bicycle racks and an extra “reserve” gas tank. Some survivalists also carry a small (e.g., 250 cc) off-road-capable motorcycle in the van or truck.
Emergency food bars, preferably products with 2,400 or 3,600 calories and contain no coconut or tropical oils to which many people may have an allergic reaction, in addition to non-perishable food which does not require cooking or refrigeration
You can start by learning the “hobo’s tent,” which is a makeshift tent using only paracord and a basic flat tarp. You only need basic tools for the job, such as a camp knife, and you’ll be able to construct your own shelter using essential supplies and, of course, your wits.
It takes the critical survival items and packages them in an ultralight, waterproof dry bag with watertight roll-down top. Keeping your food, perishables, and other valuables off the ground isn’t just a sure way to ensure their safety, but it will help stave off moisture and insects as well. Find a solid branch that can bear the weight of your supplies and then rig a simple paracord knot (in a bind, even a shoe-tie knot will suffice). Tie the paracord around your bag, cooler, or storage kit—don’t be afraid to tie it more than once to ensure security—and voila! You now have a method of keeping your food away from the animals. When you need to move, simply untie the paracord, pack it up again, and move along.
Forti’s kit of choice is a bit larger and bulkier, but not overbearingly so. It can be worn on a belt in a pouch and includes enough gear to make a longer “unplanned wilderness excursion” survivable with some modicum of basic comfort.
Why would we carry gold? I can understand the importance of silver because it it $20 an ingot and can be used for trade and barter. Gold is a whopping $1,250 a coin, and no one in a SHTF crisis is going to have change for a purchase.
Of course, there are hundreds or thousands of survival gadgets kicking around on the camping market, so on the back of bringing you our essential outdoor survival guide, we thought we’d bring you a list of some of the best survival gadgets to help you get by in the wilderness.
There are many different situations that could lead to a survival scenario, and any of them could happen to you. It’s not always the extreme skier that’s gone off course or the trail runner that’s been injured in the middle of the wilderness. Your vacation tour group may have accidentally left you behind. Or maybe your car has simply run out of gas on a desolate stretch of wintery road. The question isn’t whether you could find yourself alone or stranded in a potentially life-threatening situation. It’s whether you’d be equipped to deal with it.
In a situation where there is a moderate to severe societal collapse, such as extensive civil unrest or major natural disaster (Katrina situation maybe?), and you have to scavenge for supplies, possibly with lesser regard to law; look at the billboards! of them are topped with solar panels about 3’X3′. And you’ll KNOW they also have the wiring and battery packs on board.
Over the past few years, especially, we get one to two stories a day, but one that stands out was from a soldier named James Little, who always wore two Survival Straps. He was a sniper in Iraq, and his hideout spot was taking fire from insurgents. He was hit in the leg with shrapnel, and was bleeding pretty badly, so he unraveled one strap and tied it around his leg to make a tourniquet, and then used his other one to tie up some of the rubble around him as more cover. He credited us to helping save his life while he was at war. We relay that message to all our craftsmen, that you don’t know who is going to be wearing that bracelet, so we are ridiculous with our quality.
