If the sun is out, put a stick in the ground and mark the end of the shadow of the stick on the ground. Wait for a few minutes; the shadow will move. Now mark the end of the new position of the shadow. The line joining those two points will run east-west.

Working several thousand miles from one’s home country can lead to homesickness and a feeling of being disconnected from peers. Included in the guide are links to postdoctoral organizations in other countries and to organizations for international scientists in the United States. Other links direct one to information about career-advancing opportunities both in the United States and in other countries. Lastly, one can read the stories of those who have already experienced life as a postdoc in the United States. Been There, Done That! contains anecdotes and advice from seasoned veterans who have come to the United States to do a postdoctoral fellowship.

I am also quite pleased to see that the Citizens of the eastern half of Washington are making progress in constitutionally partitioning to become the State of Liberty. (A state boundary hasn’t been officially redrawn in the United States since West Virginia was Constitutionally partitioned from Virginia back in 1863. But the Liberty State movement is proceeding apace.) I hope that a similar effort gains steam, to partition eastern Oregon.

According to NASA, planet Earth is set for a terrifying close encounter with a hazardous monster asteroid the size of Buckingham Palace tomorrow. The size of this asteroid is still in question, but it won’t matter if it hits the Earth.

Rawles believes that survivalists see a high risk of a coming societal meltdown and the need to prepare for the repercussions. He has said that the popular media has developed an incorrect far-right lunatic fringe image in part because of the actions of a radical few. He called this a distortion of the true message of survivalism. Unlike the handful of fringe proponents, Rawles focuses instead on family preparedness and personal freedom. He explais that the typical survivalist does not actually live in a rural area, but is rather a city dweller worried about the collapse of society who views the rural lifestyle as idyllic. He cautions that rural self-sufficiency actually involves a lot of hard work.[17] In 2009, he said: There’s so many people who are concerned about the economy that there’s a huge interest in preparedness, and it pretty much crosses all lines, social, economic, political and religious. There’s a steep learning curve going on right now.[1] In a December 2014 interview with The Economist magazine, Rawles described the survivalist movement as decentralized and full of people who value their privacy. He said: “You don’t want to be known as the guy who has 3-4 years’ supply of food in the basement. Because one day you could see it confiscated by the government or stolen by neighbours like hungry locusts.[18]

I just want the items I ordered before I die. If you can have something here within 2 weeks on other orders it shouldn’t ever be a month on any others. If something is on backorder then don’t sell it, or at least tell the customer it’s on backorder and it might be a while before you get it before the customer spends their hard earned money on something they could get somewhere else within days. That’s how you earn respect and trust, that’s how you build a business; on the trust and respect of your customers. Fernando “Ferfal” Aguirre is unique in the sense that he has lived it (and is still living it). Easily pulling in our number 8 spot, Surviving in Argentina is about one man’s experience in a post economic-collapsed country and how he has had to adapt to the challenges and changes that came about. His insights provide a great model whereby many North Americans (and Europeans) can prepare for an impending economic collapse on their own soil.

We live in the modern age though — in many ways we have an advantage. Most people need those advantages because going from a wired world to the wilderness comes with a learning curve — one that can kill you if you’re not prepared.

On December 1, 2015, Rawles released the novel Land of Promise, the first book in the Counter-Caliphate Chronicles novel series. This science fiction novel is a geopolitical thriller that is a considerable departure from his previous Patriots thriller novel series. Set in the late 2130s, Land of Promise fictionally describes the world under the economic and military domination of a Global Islamic Caliphate, brought about by a fictional new branch of Islam, called The Thirdists. The novel also describes the establishment of a Christian nation of refuge called The Ilemi Republic, in East Africa. This is the first book in a planned six-novel series. It is the first release from Liberty Paradigm Publishing, a publishing venture launched by Rawles in partnership with his literary agent Robert Gottlieb of Trident Media Group.[62][63]

It contains detailed plans for the average citizen to survive zombie uprisings of varying intensity and reach, and describes cases of zombie outbreaks in history, including an interpretation of Roanoke Colony.
