A center draft oil lamp, or a regular oil lamp, or an old fashioned kerosene lantern are good things to have as well. They can double as small heaters in the right areas. With the center draft lamp you can use two types of fuel, either kerosene or low odor mineral spirits, but they can be a bit pricey and they are on the fragile side of the spectrum. If you get a center draft lamp, always remember: as with modern Coleman lanterns, Never store a lantern or center draft lamp with fuel in it, after awhile they gum up inside and can ruin the lamp.

Good info, app not so much I really like the info provided by the guide. The app however is (a little) outdated. Also the guide could be a bit more optimized for mobile screens by editing the HTML in the webview. But good job making it available (offline) for devices in the first place.

That is really amazing list to choose from. I wouldn’t have thought of few items in my list untill I went through this post. I will always give most priority to knives and fire starters. As i think these can the most important tools with help of which you can make it out of the worst situation , If You don’t have access to other tools.

High quality, durable blade. Very convenient and discreet. Fits in any credit card slot. This knife is for when you need to do something in a pinch, not heavy duty work. Very pleased with my purchase!

I love the story of the man, lost in the woods, who freaked out and began running, desperately looking for a way out. With his senses literally clouded by fear, he actually ran right across a road back into the woods to ultimately meet his death. This is certainly an extreme case, but it makes the point.

The chomebook? I wrote in one comment that I think an iPod or even an unused touchscreen smartphone of any sort loaded with maps and info would be better. High storage capacity, small and portable, easily recharged with a solar charger. However, the NSA is likely the least of my worries in a survival situation. In a bug out survival I may WANT someone to find me!

The day I quit I went through the company shaking hands and saying good-bye to all 30 of my colleagues letting them know why I resigned. Then I walked four blocks up Fifth Avenue and started my new, even more inspiring job.

Please support liberty-minded and fiscally conservative candidates. If you feel convicted to do so, then run for office. I encourage Redoubters to get involved politically at the city, county, party precinct, and state levels. This is truly a grassroots movement. I encourage you to become a solid root in the sturdy sod of the American Redoubt!

Survival Life is based out of Austin, TX, and is not listed with the Better Business Bureau. Outside of the BBB, we were only able to find one online review regarding Survival Life or the Lamplighter society, which referenced difficulty ordering online.

I am doing a research project for school, and one of the things I’m doing is finding some of the survival items that might have been used by the ancient Greeks. Though a lot of the items listed here are modern, I found this website to be a huge help!

Be careful with the Home Depot lids….they are NOT as strong as sheetrock mud buckets or others.  Won’t take a lot of beating before they crack……use a rubber mallet to avoid problems.  I’m sure HD uses the minimum bid contractor, just like all their house brand stuff.

An alternative to building a single survival tree is to build many survival trees, where each tree is constructed using a sample of the data, and average the trees to predict survival. This is the method underlying the survival random forest models. Survival random forest analysis is available in the R package randomForestSRC.

When choosing a space blanket (a light, thin sheet of extremely reflective Mylar), spend a little extra to buy a larger, more durable model. A space blanket can be used to block wind and water, wrapped around the body prevent/counteract hypothermia, or even placed behind you to reflect a fire’s heat onto your back, but none of this is useful if the blanket is too small or tears the moment you unwrap it.

If you have two mirrors, you can use the reflection from one mirror as a light source and reflect it from the second mirror. This enables you to signal north even if there is no sun present there to reflect light.

Thanks Jacques, I suspect that a lot of people don’t consider comms to be that important but it will determine your route to safety as well as the next step you can make without incurring extreme risk. Not to mention the ability to be rescued in a Katrina-like situation. Thanks for dropping by!

I am impressed with this little book. No book can tell you everything about every situation, but if you have even a little bit of resourcefulness in you, this book conveys a lot of useful information on a wide range of topics.Great book! You can always learn something new when it comes to survival training. It’s compact and travels with me everywhere.

  1. Conservatives and their Libertarian allies are developing legislative majorities in several state capitols. Precinct by precinct, American Redoubt adherents are gaining the helms of Republican Party committees. Slates of quite conservative Republican candidates are winning at the county and State levels to displace the RINO Old Guard. Ditto for school boards, city councils, and county commissions. Outspokenly pro-gun and pro-life folks are getting elected as county sheriffs.

When it comes to survival tips and techniques, the more you know, the better. While you can’t possibly prepare for every single thing that is out there, you can try your best to be as aware of many of them as you can. Sometimes these bits and pieces of knowledge can seem quite like useless trivia at times, but don’t be fooled. The knowledge is there not to be useful ALL the time, but rather to be there when you need it the most. That is why we put together a massive list of 50 Survival Tips and Tricks for the outdoors.
The specifics of wilderness survival change a lot depending on what part of the world you’re trapped in. Knowing how to treat hypothermia is about as useful as a bag of malaria for a castaway in the tropics, but it’s the difference between life and death when you get locked in the meat cooler at work again. But one constant in nature is that you can almost always find a body of water—and if you have the know-how, this water means food.
