If you find yourself stuck in the wilderness during the winter, do not eat snow unless you fully melt and warm it first! If you eat snow your body temperature will drop and you risk hypothermia or death. An on-the-go method of warming snow is to place it in your water bottle and place that between your jacket and clothing.
Ms. Bishop’s blog is the advertising front for her husband’s products, often without any disclaimer. She flip flops on her own survival recommendations, based on his latest product or venture (which always gets a glowing review).
Hey, Todd! Yeah it’s a crazy list for sure. Took forever to compile! Definitely don’t expect anyone to look up every single item recommendation, I’d expect people to just check the items they have off the list and then maybe look at some recommendations for items they don’t have or don’t have much experience with.
About Blog – This sub reddit defines Wilderness Survival as the philosophies, knowledge, techniques, and actions applied in a Wilderness environment, in a short-term survival scenario, which serve to increase the likelihood of survival of the individual or group.
A survival kit is something most hikers, hunters, and explorers will never break open. It will sit in the bottom of a backpack, potentially for years, encased in a waterproof vessel of some sort, lightweight and out of the way.
In survival and SHTF situations, you’ll want to make sure to defend yourself and your family against both other people and animals. There are a variety of ways which you can do this, although of course some work better than others. Certainly look into attaining a firearm if this is legally permissible in your locality, and if you ever consider you may like to have it as a backup option. If you are interested in firearms, make sure to learn about them and train with them prior to an emergency situation. You can’t expect to be good with a firearm your first time shooting.
Slip this kit in your pocket, backpack, or life vest to prepare for any outdoor adventure. This kit includes sewing supplies, survival instructions, and assorted survival tools in a rugged and lightweight case.
Over at Backdoor Survival, Gaye wrote a nice introductory post on cryptocurrency and prepping: Cryptocurrencies and Preppers – a Match Made in Heaven? She seems pretty positive on crypto. But I’d like to add my two cents. (I mean, my … Continue reading →
This is an investment in your career. The tools and information you will learn from this weekend will not only pay off the next time you get an assignment, but this is information you will carry with you for the rest of your career. The difference between guessing and actually understanding how to market yourself and price your work can often be thousands of dollars per assignment. You will be more informed, you will make better decisions, and leave nothing to guessing the next time you meet with a client, or prepare a bid.
This is just a good, solid survival kit that contains just about anything you could ever need. A knife, a compass, sewing needles, fishing line and fish-hooks… I could go on and on. I mean, how are you going to argue with a survival kit that even includes aluminum foil? This kit has you covered.
Matches – while most people assume that they know the proper way to light a match, it never ceases to amaze me how many people don’t. Try this – test yourself to build and light a fire in just five minutes using only one match. Can you do it in a nearby forest? Try out different habitats. How about in the snow? In the rain?
On Monday, 21 August 2017, there will be a massive total eclipse of the sun, which will sweep across the U.S. beginning in Oregon about 10:18 a.m. Pacific Time and ending about 2:48 p.m. Eastern Time in South Carolina. Check … Continue reading →
Reaching for a multi-tool is as as simply finding one with pliers, and a Phillips screw driver, right? Actually that’s wrong. A Phillips screw driver might come in handy on several occasions but there are a lot more screw head types that call for special fittings. These special fittings can quickly take parts off vehicles, remove hardware around locking mechanisms, and remove ventilation coverings. A good multi-tool is essential to urban survival, is made of stainless steel, and can withstand years’ of use. If you’re going to be anywhere near an urban environment, look, at the Swiss Tool Spirit Plus. Here’s a multi-tool with 38 functions, including a bit wrench with 6 bits (important for screw heads that a Phillips or standard screwdriver will not fit).
His How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It: Tactics, Techniques, and Technologies for Uncertain Times is a non-fiction book drawn primarily from his posts on SurvivalBlog.com. The book was described as The preppers’ Bible, by a Reuters journalist. His blog addresses preparing for the multitude of possible threats toward society. Rawles describes how to prepare against a post-disaster society that suffers looting, armed violence and food shortages. He recommends establishing rural safe havens at least 300 miles from the nearest major city, financial planning for a future barter-based economy, water retrieval and purification, food production and storage, security and self-defense techniques and strategies.
When choosing what rifle to recommend as one of the choices for Top 10 Survival Gear, I went to the experts at Outdoor Life. They know the hunting industry. They know guns. I have to say that the Marlin 336XLR comes in as a great choice for a hunting rifle specifically due to it’s accuracy. New hunters need as much help as they can get right? This 30-30 gets top billing for deer but in all actuality a 30.30. can take down just about any game animal in North America, including grizzly bears. Carry the right ammunition for the game you plan to hunt; don’t use the same ammo you would use to take down a deer (150 grain) as you would for a turkey or small game (100-125 grain).
The insane have taken over the asylum folks. The geniuses over at the Canada Border Services Agency decided that they weren’t going to let the United Kingdom beat them in the Stupid Olympics and have opted to ban the import of basically all…
High demand – high search volumes, lots of customer reviews on sites like Amazon, high conversion rates on digital products, enthusiastic and rabid buyers. (James shows how you should be copywriting for affiliate products here)
The NiteCore P12 and the Fenix PD35 flashlights both use CR123 batteries. I haven’t found those batteries in any Big Box store or in any kind of rechargeable version. Would we be safer with equipment that uses rechargeable AA’s? All of my solar rechargers are configured for AAA, AA, C, D, and 9V batteries. I can’t recharge CR123’s.
It is exactly what it sounds like! If it is dark already and you don’t have time to look for an alternative, find a bunch of leaves and twigs and make a mound of sorts. It should be about 2 feet high and as long as your height. Once the pile is assembled, you can crawl under it. It is a natural sleeping bag that will keep you warm.
One tool I keep in all my survival bags is a small folding brush saw. I originally bought one at my local hardware store for de-limbing some small trees on my property line. I found that for cutting brush, limbs, even small trees it’s quicker requires less effort and is much quieter than any bladed tool I have. It’s also inexpensive, lightweight and fits easily in the side pocket of any backpack I own.
We all experience hardships. Some people get through them with greater ease than others because of their attitude and choices. Their mindset propels them forward. They don’t let suffering run their lives and they work through the hard times, even when everything is falling down around them and they can’t seem to get a break.
Survival Power: Portable water filters do not remove chemicals and so none are a complete solution to water. Outside of a city following a collapse local water sources may be contaminated with any number of chemicals as industrial run-off leeches into ground water, making this water unsafe to drink, even with a water filter. In a wilderness setting though, a Lifestraw should do just fine for you, and be a real life saver.
A signal mirror is one of the furthest-reaching non-electronic signal methods. Properly aimed, a signal mirror is capable of shining a beam of daylight up to 10 miles away to create a flash of light that can catch the attention of distant aircraft, watercraft, vehicles, or someone on foot.
I’ll have to take your word for it. I scrolled down through their FB page, but couldn’t find any offers. I signed up for their list and no offers yet (though I imagine they wait for an opportune time). I did see the member’s area offer of $19.95, which I’m assuming also contains upsells.
Survival is your first priority, but don’t forget- you need to get rescued as well. Come up with an action plan in case a plane flies overhead or there are are search parties nearby. You’ve seen it in the movies – prepare a giant, easily visible fire pit out in the open or lay out stones in the pattern of HELP or S.O.S. You can also use any shiny, metallic object for reflection purposes.
