According to the Survival Life website, membership to the Lamplighter society provides an easy, practical way of obtaining information related to survival preparedness, without having to spend years of trial and error. With this in mind, membership is claimed to provide the following benefits:

Recently some challenges have been threatening the fabric of our community. Increased vandalism, conflicts between neighboring camps, and matter out of place (MOOP), and participants showing up not prepared to live in a harsh desert environment or expecting to simply consume what BRC has to offer.

This problem is uniquely Prepper. We tend to store all kinds of stuff, including food, water, equipment, bartering items, guns, ammo, and much more. Where do you keep it all? Do you have one big space for everything, or divide … Continue reading →

– Life has many lessons to be learned from. We all run into pain, misfortunes, challenges, obstacles, stress, insults, unhappiness but dig into yourself and climb out of the dark hole any way you can. Things do change. The hard times do make you stronger and wiser and hopefully kinder too. You’ll heal and grow and very often, out of the pain, comes something so much better… more wonderful and… surprising.

Cooked snake can be a delicacy, but only indulge if you had to kill one anyway. But be careful: Snakes can still release venom when dead. Consult CDC’s list of venomous snakes so you know what is safe.

I want to break down the three blades I’ll be using for all my backwoods and innasticks work this year. I’ve explained some of the rationale behind my selections; now I want to show exactly what I’m carrying and how I expect they’ll fill all the to…

This to me seemed to explain-  one, why members of several species just die after laying eggs or after mating. In some species such as ‘the preying mantis’, the female eats the head of the male once it finishes mating or rather once she is sure that the male has ‘fulfilled its purpose’. Second, when we see the life of certain kinds such as the dinosaurs or others which have become extinct, what can we consider their purpose as? I’d say they were just experiments of nature in the process to manufacture ‘fitter’ beings (evolution) capable of surviving its whims. Again- modify DNA to increase its chances of survival.

After YouTube’s glaring censorship agenda set out to silence those who question the establishment, many have transitioned to a platform where their speech is not politically censored.  One such man is now disarming the climate change agenda and his DTube video is throwing all kinds of wrenches in the cogs of the propaganda machine.

“Carry a tiny Bic lighter always, but hand gel is a great fire starter,” says Hawke. It may not seem like rocket science, but it takes serious skills to start a fire. Without matches or a lighter, a Native American fire bow can be made from a variety of sticks.

Like any emergency kit, the Pocket Survival Pak — which was developed by Doug Ritter, founder of the survivalist website Equipped To Survive — can help lost or injured explorers signal helicopters and planes, start fires, boil water, melt snow for water, catch fish, navigate through the woods, trap small animals, perform rudimentary first aid, and repair damaged are JWR’s Recommendations of the Week for various media and tools of interest to SurvivalBlog readers. This week the focus is on different aspects of the now much-maligned American Gun Culture.  Try as they might, the gun grabbers will never disarm the American citizenry. We will stick to our guns!

While you’ll always have this in your survival food kits to store your food, keep a separate sheet in your bag to always have a dry surface. This can come in handy as a dry surface to start fires on, especially when it just rained and the soil is too damp for you to be able to start a fire. Use this with your char cloth and other tinder you have with you and you’ll be able to start a campfire even when it’s wet outside.

Didn’t know of Sawyer’s million-gallon filter! It looks awesome for home + camp use, but if I’m on the move I’d prefer a straw rather than fiddling with bags. So I can hydrate on the move in creeks and brooks. Definitely a plus to have one of each, though! I’ll see if I can get one to review.

The best way to learn and develop wilderness survival skills is to get wilderness survival training from a live wilderness survival guide or school. Twin Eagles Wilderness School offers a variety of wilderness survival training classes, including our transformational, nine month long Twin Eagles Wilderness Immersion Program – the ultimate wilderness survival training.

Go ahead, pick up any survival handbook and inside you’ll find the same old boring repetitive stuff. How to make a spear from a stick, a bow & arrow from some tree saplings, and a slingshot from a Y-shape tree branch.

– Mora knives are spectacular – look at them, in the event that you can’t find one, check out a local bait/tackle shop, chances are there is a knife just like it there – same sheath and all (I just found this out after owning a tom of Moras, and the steel is just as good, with a slightly thicker blade..)

All of this has been achieved by an informal movement with no meetings, no written platform, and no formal leadership. It is just an osmotic gathering of like-minded people who are fed up and voting with their feet. It is just that simple.

If you are fishing for food in the wild, you can catch more fish if you cast your bait while facing into the wind. It is a known fact that 99% fish swim toward the wind. Fishing into the wind will allow you to cast a bait in front of the fish rather than behind.

If you’re out of water and, crucially, still somewhat hydrated, drinking your own urine can keep you alive. This is because relatively clear urine will hydrate you, but if it’s brown and thick, it’s just waste and won’t help at all.

Losing your direction without a compass can be a deadly mistake, and nature is not a forgiving beast. If you’re willing to wait a whole day, you can figure out west and east by the direction of the setting sun; but without food and water, time is a luxury you might not have. That’s why getting an accurate compass bearing is crucial, and you can do it easily with a simple analog watch.

I am the invisible prepper. I am, on the surface, a caricature of everything that most SurvivalBlog readers seem to deplore. On the surface, I am a caricature of what the non-prepper community expects me to be– completely average in every way. Who…

One of the best sites out there related to wilderness survival skills, and number 7 in our list, is Ron Fontaine’s Survival Topics. Instead of just regurgitating things found in survival books, Ron follows a very similar approach that I do in that he practices and talks about things that he tries/uses/experiments with personally.

The bottom line? The Katadyn Micropur tablets cost more and take longer to work, but are widely tolerated in water. Potable Aqua’s iodine tablets are cheaper, last longer, and work faster, but they do taste funny. Take your pick.

It begins with looking within. It is all about who you are being. Consider the psychology of survival. Sure, most people die from exposure to the elements, but what is happening inside those people that led to their death? In short, they freaked. They strayed away from a calm center.

Housing prices in the United States continue to rise at unprecedented rates forcing many into poverty.  This worsening epidemic is explained well in a video by The Money GPS and it’s been engineered this way.

Other small kits are wearable and built into everyday carry survival bracelets or belts. Most often these are paracord bracelets with tools woven inside. Several tools such as firestarter, buckles, whistles and compass are on the exterior of the gear and smaller tools are woven inside the jewelry or belt and only accessible by taking the bracelet apart.
