In subsequent chapters, the book describes weapons and combat techniques, places of safety, and how to survive a zombie-infested world. In the section describing weapons, Brooks writes about the human body: If cared for and trained properly, is the greatest weapon on earth. The guide concludes with a fictional list of documented zombie encounters throughout history. The oldest entry is 60,000 BC, in Katanda, Central Africa, although the author expresses doubt about its validity. Instead, he presents evidence from 3,000 B.C. in Ancient Egypt as the first verifiable instance of a zombie outbreak. The most recent entry is 2002, in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Some of these encounters make reference to historical events, such as Roanoke Island.
The home owner or purchaser. Should think of the following: Do I know anything about electrical design etc. I mechanically inclined? If your the handy kind. Keep that in mind. If not, then a system that requires a mechanic is not your first option, or second… Cost drivers on the typical system are the size (how big the system is- typically it is listed as Kw or Kilowatts. Second is Name branding, Third is the code or enforcement requirements (typically the place where errors are made, ie over sized, or needless options) and lastly Optional equipment. Fancy, re-mote start, or remote access (think internet capabilities) while these can be nice. If your not watching the bottom line, they can take money from really important items).

Immediately apply direct pressure until the bleeding subsides, preferably with a cloth, but don’t waste time looking for one if it’s not immediately available. Follow with a pressure dressing. “Always carry a scarf or handkerchief as a great bandage…” advises Hawke.

Duck eggs are not nearly as popular as their hen-made counterparts, but that’s surprising considering how beneficial they are. Snaring can be an excellent way to trap small animals while you are away building your shelter. However, it is important to know where to set up the traps. You can set the traps in places where you can see the animals running around. You can also hear small rodents and squirrels. It is even better if you are near a water body.

When choosing what rifle to recommend as one of the choices for Top 10 Survival Gear, I went to the experts at Outdoor Life. They know the hunting industry. They know guns. I have to say that the Marlin 336XLR comes in as a great choice for a hunting rifle specifically due to it’s accuracy. New hunters need as much help as they can get right? This 30-30 gets top billing for deer but in all actuality a 30.30. can take down just about any game animal in North America, including grizzly bears. Carry the right ammunition for the game you plan to hunt; don’t use the same ammo you would use to take down a deer (150 grain) as you would for a turkey or small game (100-125 grain).

Also, I like olive oil lamps, but they do have their drawbacks. You must maintain a close distance between the lit portion of the lamp and the surface of the oil, and, they are quite messy, especially when the daily (or every few hours) wick trimming time comes around. Candles are superior except for the fact that olive oil lamps self extinguish if they are knocked over, and they don’t produce as much soot and fumes. I don’t use a mason jar, I use a shorter sized wide mouth canning jar (about three inches tall) it’s more stable and you cannot use more oil than that at a time anyway. The wide mouth part is a must, imho. Reaching inside a narrow opening to raise the wick is not easy.
Hold your watch horizontally and point it so that the hour hand is facing into the sun. At the center point between the 12 and the hour hand is your north/south line, with north facing away from the sun. So if the hour hand is pointing at 4, for example, the 2 would point towards the south and the 8 would point towards the north.

You’ve seen it in the movies – prepare a giant, easily visible fire pit out in the open or lay out stones in the pattern of HELP or S.O.S. You can also use any shiny, metallic object for reflection purposes.
