A survival kit is something most hikers, hunters, and explorers will never break open. It will sit in the bottom of a backpack, potentially for years, encased in a waterproof vessel of some sort, lightweight and out of the way.
A first aid kit is kind of a no-brainer, but you have to make sure you get yourself a good one. And this… this is a good one. In addition to all the usuals (bandages, scissors, etc.), this 100-piece kit also contains a compass, a poncho, a whistle, a CPR mask and a Mylar blanket. This isn’t just about first-aid. This is a full-on survival kit.
You’ve heard “Be Fruitful and Multiply”, but in the early aftermath of a major long-term disaster, getting your women pregnant and having babies might be problematic when your garden isn’t doing so well and you need every person at 110% effic…
While we don’t push apocalyptic scenarios we do acknowledge the fact that disasters happen. We feel everyone has the ultimate responsibility for their own survival and we strive to provide practical information that is relevant to things happening in your life.

YouTube censorship has taken an ugly turn. Not long after the tech giant announced that their censorship agenda was because of overzealous new employees, Mike Adams (The Health Ranger) lost his entire channel consisting of 1700 videos.
Survival Power: A military Goretex sleeping bag system can do a good job at keeping you warm — but only to negative 10 degrees Fahrenheit — you’ll have to wear additional layers and craft additional insulation if temperatures drop below negative 10.
When choosing what rifle to recommend as one of the choices for Top 10 Survival Gear, I went to the experts at Outdoor Life. They know the hunting industry. They know guns. I have to say that the Marlin 336XLR comes in as a great choice for a hunting rifle specifically due to it’s accuracy. New hunters need as much help as they can get right? This 30-30 gets top billing for deer but in all actuality a 30.30. can take down just about any game animal in North America, including grizzly bears. Carry the right ammunition for the game you plan to hunt; don’t use the same ammo you would use to take down a deer (150 grain) as you would for a turkey or small game (100-125 grain).

You have a freedom to choose your own purpose, and this pressure to choose can be viewed also as burden. When you feel you must find your purpose, you can look at your mind from distance and be conscious about it.
Here are JWR’s Recommendations of the Week for various media and tools of interest to SurvivalBlog readers. This week the focus is on different aspects of the now much-maligned American Gun Culture. Try as they might, the gun grabbers will never disarm the American citizenry. We will stick to our guns!
Disclaimer: Just in case it’s not obvious I’m not claiming that if you copy this model or create a similar site you’ll make a million dollars a month. You might make $0. It just an example of what is possible.
Most of the predatory animals are nocturnal and trust me; they are built for hunting at night. They can see you better than you know even if it is pitch black. Also, the floor of the woods is covered with insects and snakes that also come out during the night. Remember, you are traveling in a land that you have never tread. You can fall off a cliff if you can’t see where you are going.
I understand that you’re going to expand the tools listing…may I suggest you research either homesteading sites or sustainability sites because without the tools to plant, harvest, and store their garden produce and the seeds (either saved or in form of a survival seed cache) necessary to replenish their food stores, a lot of people will be in trouble after that first year or two or three on their own passes. Not to mention the learning curve and the skills needed for those activities.
That is a big statement. That is also what I see so many people searching for, especially in contrast with the superficial values of our degenerative, consumeristic, capitalistic, western society. Perhaps more than anything else, wilderness survival served as the doorway to a deep and profound experience of connection, belonging, and meaning to my life. I’ve discovered along the way that my passion and purpose is to mentor others into that same profound sense of connection, belonging, and meaning that comes through wilderness survival and deep nature connection, ultimately guiding them to their deepest calling.
where t is some time, T is a random variable denoting the time of death, and Pr stands for probability. That is, the survival function is the probability that the time of death is later than some specified time t. The survival function is also called the survivor function or survivorship function in problems of biological survival, and the reliability function in mechanical survival problems. In the latter case, the reliability function is denoted R(t).
It may also happen that subjects with a lifetime less than some threshold may not be observed at all: this is called truncation. Note that truncation is different from left censoring, since for a left censored datum, we know the subject exists, but for a truncated datum, we may be completely unaware of the subject. Truncation is also common. In a so-called delayed entry study, subjects are not observed at all until they have reached a certain age. For example, people may not be observed until they have reached the age to enter school. Any deceased subjects in the pre-school age group would be unknown. Left-truncated data are common in actuarial work for life insurance and pensions.
Keep a pocket knife, or multi-tool with you at all times, because you never know when you will need it- and when you do need it, you will rejoice that you have something to cut, protect and prepare food- even if all you have is a crappy, little knife. Now just learn how to sharpen it like MacGuyver.

Use urine of females to attract prey: The urine of female animals can be used to attract males for hunting. Although finding female urine may be difficult, but if you hunt a female, you can store the urine.
– Bates Light series are nice, like putting your foot in a baby seal, but if you have high arches, get some good support – they also run narrow… Try on before you buy. – Bates also need very minimal break in time – IF you can afford them, always go with Danner brand combat boots – the USMC RAT boot is the tank of footware, they are pricy (all mine are issued 🙂 ) but well worth the cost.
This gift is one that my husband has purchased for co-workers or others on several occasions, and it is always appreciated. The knife really is sharp.. It is super convenient to be able to pull out a knife from your wallet whenever you need. We’ve used it while hiking, organizing the garage, opening packages, and a variety of other activities. The knife fits in your wallet as is the size of a credit card. It isn’t bulky. My husband has owned his for two years and still finds it sharp and useful. I am sure we will give this gift again in the future.
A quick question on food storage – if I use mylar bags to store grains inside plastic buckets that are NOT denominated “food grade,” will this ruin my efforts? Must I only use “food grade” plastic buckets?
Let’s say you’re thrust into an emergency situation where rescue is not desirable. Let’s say you must avoid detection and roaming threats. If you want to get some shut-eye, it would be near impossible without a perimeter alarm system.

December of 1942, shortly after the beginning of World War 2, a company by the name of KA-BAR builds a knife that it hopes will become issued to the United States Marine Corp (USMC). KA-BAR and the USMC went back and forth devising a master plan to create the ultimate fighting/utility knife. At the time, […]
The Bear Mountain Bridge Hammock is a sleep straight hammock, due to the way it’s constructed. It is also an enclosed shelter — if you opt for one of these you don’t need a tarp shelter or tent. Consider a hammock like this model for those times you want to be up off the ground — for example during heavy rains or crossing through marsh, swamp, or even jungle.
Flee your feed: The Google Chrome Web browser offers free extensions that will remove all mentions of the election from your social media feed (others replace candidates’ names with the poop emoji). And remember: There’s no shame in hiding a friend’s or a family member’s annoying Facebook posts; neither will ever find out about it, and it’s easier than starting a digital shouting match.
If it doesn’t float, stuff some of the cotton into the bubble. Now you can tie your bobber to a fishing line and leave it while you take care of more important things, like scaring all those bears away from your campsite. It’s all about multitasking.
Plastic/rubber tubing is good for slingshots, tourniquets, can be used as a straw to draw water from holes in the ground, etc. Wire saws are good, too. Though of course they can’t do everything a regular saw can, their portability, your right, makes them a huge asset.
