While many prepackaged meals are commercially available, you can save money, get the types of meals you want, and have fun by making your own. Fill a small freezer bag with ½ cup quick-cooking oats, a tablespoon of dry milk, a teaspoon of sugar, and a handful of dried fruit and nuts for a nutritious breakfast. For lunch, try a third of a cup of dry couscous, ½ cup freeze dried vegetables, a tablespoon of shelf stable shredded Parmesan cheese, a teaspoon of vegetable bullion and a few seasonings. How about rice with beef and mushrooms for dinner? And let’s not forget about desert; how does a mixed up fruit cobbler sound?

It never fails that when you need a knife or cutting instrument the most there’s never a pocket knife around to help you out. That’s why we created the highly-effective, razor sharp, multipurpose credit card knife. At about the thickness of 2 credit cards, it is the ultimate portable knife.

in your head and a whole teeth-gnashing day to get it out. (But hey, listening to music is actually pretty healthy for you!) There is a better way
to cure what scientists call involuntary musical imagery (aka, the common
earworm). In fact, there are two ways:

As we’ve covered in the past here on Listverse, there are approximately one billion ways you could die. Nuclear winter, the robopocalypse—heck, just a simple camping trip gone wrong could leave you trapped in the merciless grip of nature’s fury, with nothing but your own wits and the questionable advice of this list to get you out alive.

Probably, the number one tool (if you don’t have access to a backhoe, would be the lowly shovel for putting corpses into the ground to prevent the spread of disease. Yes, I suspect a LOT of folks will die from disease and toxic shock from injuries improperly treated.

If you bait these traps you have greater chances of not only catching an animal, but catching it faster than if you didn’t bait these traps. How would you like to check your traps the next morning and find a few animals snared, not just one (if you were lucky to get even one)? (Kaytee Squirrel and Critter Blend provides natural bait for an urban survival or live off the land scenario).

Carbon steel is a lightweight alloy that is bulletproof. You can easily procure this material as most saws are made from it. The pieces of carbon steel may require a high ‘exoskeleton’ for your jackets, clothes, and backpack.

Why do I rate binoculars in the Top 10 Survival Gear? Not only do binoculars help hunters spot game animals — they help people lost in the wilderness identify distant features in the terrain, sometimes saving several miles of needless travel. Misreading the terrain can bring a person to the edge of a cliff or canyon or to a river that is simply to dangerous to cross. Now you have to turn back.

I am a twice divorced middle-aged woman, a committed democrat, a sincere atheist, a successful product of public schools, and what you would likely call a coastal liberal elite. If you met me, you would probably ignore me, scoff under your breath, and label me as sheeple or a snowflake.

The US government’s Homeland Security website provides a list of in-home kit items.[9] The list focuses on the basics of survival: fresh water, food, clean air and materials to maintain body warmth. These basic survival items comprised into a kit are known as a Bug-out bag. The recommended basic emergency kit items include:

Once you have a fire going, you can create a temporary grill using these metal wires and rods to cooks anything from fish to meat. You can also boil water in a make-shift cup that you can fashion from aluminum sheets.

“The [Second Amendment’s] prohibition is general. No clause in the Constitution could by any rule of construction be conceived to give to Congress a power to disarm the people. Such a flagitious attempt could only be made under some general prete…

I love these things. This WetFire product is very lightweight, easy to ignite, and it has a long burn time. Each cube weighs just .16 ounces and is capable of burning up to 10 minutes at temperatures around 1,300°F. They work in wet and windy conditions with ease. They even float and keep burning, even while floating in water. I’ve been bringing these little waxy cubes out for show-and-tell during survival classes for several years, and I’ve always observed impressive results in the field, regardless of the weather. In my most recent tests, a cube burned for 9.5 minutes on a very damp day—twice the burn time of the homemade alternative (Vaseline-soaked cotton balls). The flame was also much taller than the petroleum jelly on a cotton ball. Several spikes from the WetFire cube were 9 or 10 inches tall, which is twice the height of the flame from a greasy cotton ball.

The U.S. Army Survival 21-76 Field Manual suggests a steady diet of locust, ants, termites and grasshoppers when food is scarce. Grasshoppers should be cooked, and be sure to remove their barbed legs that could get lodged in your throat. (Broccoli doesn’t sound so bad anymore, does it, kids?)

Another premade kit that knocked it out of the park. What a genius design! Who would have thought of outfitting a survival kit both inside and outside. Even better, there was a little room left over to add a couple of things on the inside. Although I enjoy putting Altoids survival tins myself, I couldn’t pass this one up. I’m glad I didn’t.

This knife is by far one of the best products on this site! It is unbelievably sturdy, and holds an edge once you put it on. The blade is wicked, and the saw blade does its job. ( I built a shelter in 15 minutes with all the saplings I sawed with it). The sheath is heavy duty plastic, and will surpass your expectations. There is not a time when I do not have this thing on me when I’m outdoors. A trusty companion, at truly a remarkable price. If you are reading this review, I urge you to take out your credit card, and add this fine piece of steel to your bugout bag, camping pack, or collection!!

It’s about creating a site that keeps people engaged, gets them clicking and lowers bounce rate and if you read about SurvivalLife over on DigitalMarketer.com you’ll see them talk about how they initally went with a really clean design similar to Uncrate.com but their bounce rate was terrible so they made the site really messy and ugly and bounce rate dropped dramatically.

Sleeping on the ground will cause you to lose body heat faster, making it more likely for you to get cold. Sleeping on a poncho or a really thin blanket isn’t going to help this either. The best way to do this is to stack up leaves or logs to make a padded bed. Alternatively, you can bring a hammock with you and just set it up when you sleep.
