“The [Second Amendment’s] prohibition is general. No clause in the Constitution could by any rule of construction be conceived to give to Congress a power to disarm the people. Such a flagitious attempt could only be made under some general pretense by a state legislature. But if in any blind pursuit of inordinate power, either should attempt it, this amendment may be appealed to as a restraint on both.” – William Rawle

Wilderness survival sometimes calls for being found — that includes in a time of collapse as well. Perhaps you’ve put together a camp in a remote location. Whatever circumstances take place where you’re now cooperating with other people for survival, tasks related to hunting, scouting, and scavenging can mean you have to split off from the group at times.

Survival Food Reviews – Why Do You Need Survival Food? Why do you need survival food? It is estimated that most people have a three day supply of food in their homes. What happens if the food supply gets interrupted? What happens if the grocery stores shut down or run out of food? How will […]

happiness study from the University of
Alberta, participating in physical activity increases life satisfaction three times as much as being unemployed reduces it. Also try these other tips to bounce back after losing your job.

Personally I believe that printers were went from hell to make us miserable so whenever I see something worth printing I just write it down into a journal I keep for that purpose. Needless to say you’ve managed to keep me busy for the next couple of days. Thank you MD

Also, I like olive oil lamps, but they do have their drawbacks. You must maintain a close distance between the lit portion of the lamp and the surface of the oil, and, they are quite messy, especially when the daily (or every few hours) wick trimming time comes around. Candles are superior except for the fact that olive oil lamps self extinguish if they are knocked over, and they don’t produce as much soot and fumes. I don’t use a mason jar, I use a shorter sized wide mouth canning jar (about three inches tall) it’s more stable and you cannot use more oil than that at a time anyway. The wide mouth part is a must, imho. Reaching inside a narrow opening to raise the wick is not easy.

Forti’s kit of choice is a bit larger and bulkier, but not overbearingly so. It can be worn on a belt in a pouch and includes enough gear to make a longer “unplanned wilderness excursion” survivable with some modicum of basic comfort.

In tropical areas, a survival kit may have mosquito head netting, additional insect repellent, anti-fungal cream, a machete, water purification tablets, foot powder, matches, a flint strike, a compass, a wire saw, a space blanket, medical equipment (gauze pads, elastic gauze bandage, antiseptic creams, anti-malaria tablets, anti-infection tablets, bandages, etc.), salt tablets, a fishing kit, snare wire, extra socks, a candle, a signal mirror, flares, a sewing kit, safety pins, tinder, tape, a whistle, and rations.

Another section, which could be useful to all international postdocs, is the A Quick Guide to Visas for International Postdocs. This section describes the variety of visas that most international postdocs use for entry into the United States. This is a highly relevant aid given the current state of flux in visa regulations. This section outlines the terminology (Do you know the difference between SEVIS and USCIS?) and has a comparison between the J-1 and H-1B visas.

My personal EDC habits, especially in terms of how often I swap in and out the things I carry, have changed considerably over the years. I know there are many who like to change what they take out with them daily, but I’ve never been the type to change what I EDC very …

One of those basic survival skills is eating! Well roughing it, dry rations and freeze dried meals will allow you to live whilst adventuring, but for those of us who prefer to eat in lavish style, this portable solar cooker is an absolute must! No batteries, energy source or gas needed with this oven which makes yummy meals though the raw power of the sun. This stove cooks at around 360 degrees fahrenheit but can reach up to 550. It bakes, roasts, steams and sautes in one fluid motion and promises to complete the whole process in only 20 minutes. Plus, what you don’t eat right away can be placed back inside the oven to keep toasty for easy gobbling later. The stove’s solar vacuum tube cooking chamber has a layer of insulation meant to keep heat locked in and the cold kept out.! The whole thing is convertible and lightweight, only weighing in at around 7 and a half pounds. Buy one new for around 250 bucks or buy the smaller model called the GoSun solar dogger for only 60. The dogger is perfect for hot dogs and other small meaty treats. It cooks at 75 degrees fahrenheit, promising to grease hungry tummies for those of us dining in the wilderness on a budget.

Survival pack, bug out bag, inch bag, backpack – all different names for basically the same piece of gear. A survival pack is a bag with straps so you can carry your survival gear on your back. That’s it.

I prefer the Eton FR 350 radio over the Ambient Weather Emergency Radio. The problem is that neither radio can really take the beating of a survival situation, and the price of the FR 350 has become ridiculous since they were discontinued. We have a money-making market available for anyone who can produce an emergency radio that uses alternative power sources and is built to withstand a real crisis.

Just wanted to pass along a really good handbook for people who basically know nothing about survival and are in the burbs or cities. (actually it’s good for everyone!) Stefan Verstappen is the author of “The Art of Urban Survival” and the book is really packed full of information. Take a look for yourself on his website or at Amazon.

So I’ve spoken about this briefly before, but basically my opinion on rotating through a food stockpile has actually changed since I first began prepping. I used to think that – in an ideal situation – I 100% wanted to rotate through ever…
