WATER: In an emergency, one of the most important things to have on hand is clean drinking water. First My Family emergency kits are equipped with a 72-hour supply of emergency water. U.S. Coast Guard Certified for 5 Years.
I ordered a Recon Survival Knife this Sept and received an email confirmation saying it had shipped. The email said I would receive the order within 15 business days. After 6 weeks I called them and left 7 voicemails but never received a call back. I called back one…

When it comes to Survival Life, it may be the case that “no news is good news,” but we can’t be sure. While we weren’t able to locate many online customer reviews during our research, here are some of the positives we encountered:
Update: Water filtration companies are now producing portable water filters capable of filtering larger quantities of water and selling for a similar price as the Lifestraw, including Lifestraw’s own version of its latest portable water filter (compare products, specs, and reviews to help find the portable water filter that best fits your budget).
Being able to directly call for help eliminates a whole host of potential scenarios that could result in serious damage to a hiker or camper in trouble, and so having charge in your phone can be imperative.
If you’re a prepper, first aid books are a must-have, and general survival books are a very good idea. If you’re concentrating on wilderness survival, it would be beneficial to keep a few good foraging and plant biology books on you, ones that will let you know what’s edible in your region and what’s not: because you definitely don’t want to be nibbling on poison plants you thought were fine to eat in a survival/SHTF situation.
A signal mirror can serve two vital survival purposes. First, a mirror can signal help to a rescue plan or helicopter. Using the power of the sun to shine a glare towards a rescue team is an excellent way to gain attention.

Paracord bracelets are quickly becoming a fashion trend. What was once used as a supplementary survival item by firefighters and servicemen, these bracelets are now a must have for outdoor adventurers. If you don’t own one, you might be wondering how a bracelet made of parachute cord could have gotten so popular. Here are ways you can make full use of a paracord bracelet in the wild:

If you’re struggling with the whole authority versus niche thing, this post on EmpireFlippers examines both and their pro’s and con’s and there’s a good video from Jill and Josh of ScrewTheNineToFive worth watching.
In addition, the kits may contain typical individual “survival kit” items, such as nylon tarps, extra clothes and coats, blankets, sleeping bags, matches or other fire starting equipment, a compass and maps, flashlights, toilet paper, soap, a pocket knife and bowie knife, a fishing kit, a portable camping stove, a power inverter, backpack, paper and pencil, a signaling mirror, whistle, cable saw, bleach, insect repellent, magnifying glass, rope and nylon cord, pulleys, and a pistol and ammunition.
20. If you have to evac by bike, Cogburn’s CB4 fat bike has 3.8-inch-wide tires for all types of terrain and a rack-mounted scabbard for stashing a bow, rifle, or fishing rod. $1,899 (bike) and $130 (scabbard)
Distress beacons or (EPIRBs) to alert the Cospas-Sarsat rescue consortium, an international satellite-based search and rescue distress alert agency and identify the registered beacon owner’s specific information from their registration file
It’s certainly part of your overall plan. I personally like to add extras like freeze-dried camping meals. They don’t weigh much and they’ll fill you up. For your home preps, ask yourself, “What if I run out of food (and grocery store day is tomorrow) when the roads go down?”
Of course, when you’re planning out what you’re going to eat after a SHTF situation takes place, you should also be planning out how to cook that food as well. No good having canned goods if you haven’t thought of a way to get those cans opened without spilling their contents.
I’ve had unbearable physical and emotional pain in my life. I lived through a life threatening illness, was bullied as a child, survived divorce and great financial problems. I worked hard to change things and find a solution. I knew things would work out because whenever I took action to get relief something good always came out of it.
From life-saving moments to saving-the-day in their own special way, people have found multi-uses for their favorite multi-tool. Over the years, we’ve received thousands of real people’s stories from across the globe and have come to call them “Tool Tales.”
n Duke relies on knot-tying author J.D. Lenzen’s online tutorials, “Tying It All Together,” on YouTube. Duke suggests starting with the “cobra knot,” called the Solomon Bar at Lenzen’s website, Fusion Knots. It’s the easiest and most popular knot, or weave, for these bracelets. Walchle, the Ticknor brothers and Duke use it, often in multiple colors, which make the weave “pop.”
Pick a color for the inside, a color for the edge, and you have the to pick a color for a line down the center. This will give you a tri-colored bracelet. If you choose the same color for the i…
Unique to the Survival Straps brand is the stainless steel shackle available for most of the straps. The shackle provides a strong clasp that is also adjustable, with three different micro-adjustments. The glint of stainless, and the nicely engraved logo, gives these straps a serious look that I haven’t seen duplicated anywhere else. For those who worry about getting the bracelet caught in machinery or the like, Survival Straps includes a plastic break-away pin with every stainless steel shackle. Of course, if you don’t like the metallic shackle at all, a high quality plastic clip is also available.

Different people have different opinions but, mine is mirrored in the words of a renowned evolutionary biologist- Richard Dawkins,  life has no higher purpose than to perpetuate the survival of  DNA…life has no design, no purpose, no evil and no good, nothing but  blind pitiless indifference.
When choosing what rifle to recommend as one of the choices for Top 10 Survival Gear, I went to the experts at Outdoor Life. They know the hunting industry. They know guns. I have to say that the “Marlin 336XLR” comes in as a great choice for a hunting rifle specifically due to it’s accuracy. New hunters need as much help as they can get right? This “30-30” gets top billing for deer but in all actuality a 30.30. can take down just about any game animal in North America, including grizzly bears. Carry the right ammunition for the game you plan to hunt; don’t use the same ammo you would use to take down a deer (150 grain) as you would for a turkey or small game (100-125 grain).

Admonition – from a guy who represented a major water company. Two liter pop bottles are cheap because they are not designed to be on the shelf or stored for a long period of time. Buy the correct container although it costs more money. Do not use 5 gallon plastic recycled water containers. Chemicals that have migrated into the plastic can not be removed by washing. Use paint buckets with a “2” rating on the bottom that are new. They are rated as food grade. Not as good as the more expensive specific blue water containers, but they will be ok on a budget.
It could be a good idea if you have an interest in starting a preppers website but do you have any interest in this niche as you’ll probably struggle otherwise. Plus it will be difficult to create content with authority if you know nothing about it and the people in this niche will see that right away.

Food supplies in a bug-out vehicle include hundreds of pounds of wheat, rice, and beans, and enough honey, powdered milk, canned goods, bottled fruit, vitamins, dehydrated fruits and vegetables, salt, pepper, spices, and oil for several months. In addition, the kits often contain high-calorie energy bars, a cooking kit, utensils, liquid soap, and towels. The water supplies may include bottled water, filtering kit, bottles, collapsible water containers, and chlorine bleach for water purification. Food preparation and washing equipment may include items such as a grain grinder, a bread mixer, a strainer, a manual can opener, a steam canner with canning jars and O-rings, cutlery, knives, an electric 12-volt cooler icebox, kerosene lamps and heaters, kerosene or propane stoves, extra fuel, a clothes wringer, a foot-operated treadle sewing machine, and an electric hot plate (which would require an inverter to operate off a car battery).
This is a small, strong cord that can be used in shelter building, ascending or descending inclines, as a clothes line, to fasten a splint, or to build a snare. Read out article about paracord uses and storage here.
