• Use it to desalinate seawater. Just boil seawater underneath a tented poncho to catch the vapour and produce the water through condensation. This will separate the salt from the water, making it drinkable.

This was the first survival kit that I’ve bought, so I can’t compare it to others on the market, but it seems to be a well-put-together survival kit. The plastic compartment is made of durable material, although, I wouldn’t count on it being watertight. The rubber gasket on the lid doesn’t seem to seal against the base well enough to make it fully waterproof. Inside, it holds just about everything needed to survive a couple nights out in the woods if you get stranded or lost. With much success, I lit a fire with the sparker and tinder-quik cotton fire starters on the first spark! The knife is really neat; it has a built in high-intensity LED light, with a switch, pointed in the direction of the knife blade to help you see as you are cutting or carving at night, and it has an integrated whistle on the rear to alert a near-by rescuer of your approximate position. In the bottom portion of the container, there’s some fishing tackle, small diameter cord, and steel line that can be used for fishing, traps, snares, and shelters. The top portion contains literature on wilderness survival techniques, a large signal mirror, and how-to guide for the kit. I use the signal mirror to see when I’m putting my contacts in my eyes and to put on camoflauge face paint for hunting. This is a great compact survival kit for any backpacker!

Compact saw such as Japanese style backsaw with coarse teeth (folding models available). Bow saws can quickly cut larger diameter limbs and small to medium thick trees, and Folding saws can be small enough to fit into a kit, but big enough to cut small to medium diameter limbs, and possibly trees.

As some of you may know, Cape Town is running out of water. The local government has quite literally stated that in less than 100 days, they may have to turn off the taps entirely and water will be rationed out at designated outposts. Here’s the thing folks, South Africa …

There is a lot of misinformation about quicksand out there, from how it traps people who accidentally fall in to how to get out.  The good news is that getting stuck in quicksand doesn’t have to lead to an unfortunate outcome.  Here’s what you need to know to avoid turning a problem that has …

There is also a lot of scattered survival information that can easily send you in 100 different direction. Almost every internet prepper “expert”expect you to  put everything together on your own, but almost no one will give you a step by step plan and spell out exactly what you need to do and how to do it in small steps.

Empty your bladder to stay warm: Now, it may sound crazy, but it is true. When your body stores urine, it needs extra heat to keep that liquid warm. If you empty your bladder, that energy can be used to keep your other body parts warm.

I think you’re a little short on security. I wouldn’t dream of bugging out or trying to survive post-TEOTWAWKI without a good handgun (or two) in 9mm Parabellum, a rifle in 5.56/223 Remington (whether AR or otherwise), and at least a 308 bolt action for longer range/harder hits.

It turns out that many of us have some serious misconceptions of what it’s really like to live through a martial law situation. I asked Selco, who has personally been through it, to clear up the myths and tell us what it’s actually like.

This post is exactly what I would hope to find…solid info with simple action steps to point us in the right direction, undoubtedly followed up with specific, detailed info products you can sell us. 🙂
