I’m a believer bullion silver, in part because of its utility for barter. Secondarily, I’m a proponent of silver because it is presently undervalued versus gold. In the long term I am confident that silver will outperform gold. Its only drawback is its relatively high weight and bulk, per Dollar invested.

If you can find some sticks, you can make this sturdy shelter in no time. Find two sticks about 5 feet long and one about 10 feet long. Prop the shorter sticks so that you create an ‘A’ shape. Now prop the longer stick on top of the ‘A’ shape that you made and tie the three sticks together.

There are, but using them responsibly is an option, too. Crack open a window and do not leave it on for prolonged periods of time and *never* without monitoring it. Have a carbon monoxide alarm that will go off to be more cautious. Best if used in a garage with great ventilation. They’re still helpful, but yes, please use responsibly if you do use them. (We and many other people used them indoors without issue).

Just wanted to pass along a really good handbook for people who basically know nothing about survival and are in the burbs or cities. (actually it’s good for everyone!) Stefan Verstappen is the author of “The Art of Urban Survival” and the book is really packed full of information. Take a look for yourself on his website or at Amazon.

How are p38 p51s finicky? I used them in the military all the time since we had c-rations rather than MREs when I was in. As for the Sawyer million gallon straws they really aren’t much bigger than a life straw. I prefer the mini and it will do 100000 gallons. They also filter organisms as well as everything else.

It is always good to keep a hand sanitizer in your survival kit, or better, in your pocket. However, make sure that a sanitizer that is alcohol-free or the one that is foam based won’t work for this purpose.

Tips: Climbing and descending cliffs and slopes can be a very effective way to get yourself out of a dangerous area fast, get yourself passed otherwise impassible obstacles, or even get yourself to prime hunting grounds.

By contrast, the p-value for sex is now p=0.088. The hazard ratio HR = exp(coef) = 1.58, with a 95% confidence interval of 0.934 to 2.68. Because the confidence interval for HR includes 1, these results indicate that sex makes a smaller contribution to the difference in the HR after controlling for the thickness of the tumor, and only trend toward significance. Examination of graphs of log(thickness) by sex and a t-test of log(thickness) by sex both indicate that there is a significant difference between men and women in the thickness of the tumor when they first see the clinician.

Purify your A crude method of water purification is to take your handy pot and heat the water. For this to effectively kill bacteria, it must be at a rolling boil for at least three minutes.[1] You can also put (clear) water in a clear plastic bottle and set it in the sun for six hours to kill most of the organisms.[2]

A Dry Top Super Heavy Duty Tarp on the other hand is a lot more tear resistant than any backpacking tent that I’ve seen. If you carry a couple of these of varying sizes you can assemble a survival shelter rather quickly. You’ll have to learn how to build a simple shelter first of course, which you can do using a nearby tree, rope, and a stick or two you find on the ground. A tarp shelter is easily camouflaged with brush — should you need to stay hidden for any period of time.

Cotton balls and Vaseline. Vaseline is useful for chapped lips but, more importantly, when you tear the cotton balls and mix them with the Vaseline, the result is very flammable and will burn smoothly and for a long duration. This is great for making torches and starting fires. Do not use on burns!

The constant fear mongering after every shooting has people pushed to two extremes.  The first group cowers in manufactured fear at the feet of the government demanding more ink on paper to protect them. The second group gear up to protect themselves.

Location gear/rescue gear. Good array of items there. But bear in mind: gadgets crap out at the most inopportune moment, the sky can become severely overcast, flares can get wet or damaged, and whistles can be lost. All of these are great ideas, and I have mirrors, flares, a beacon, and walkies myself. But there’s one thing I’d add to the list: Hunter Orange or safety vests. Lightweight and compact, never runs out of batteries, highly visible, hard to lose, and needs very little ambient light to be visible. I have an 18″X18″ square of hunter orange with an “X” of reflective stripe sewn on. Imagine a day-glo confederate battle flag, and you likely have the right mental image.

What if you don’t happen to carry flint and steel set with you? Well, you can use the power of the sun to start a fire. All you need to do is put some water in a clear plastic bag and tie it like a balloon, as spherical as possible. When you hold this bag against the sun, you will see the familiar converging of the sun rays on the ground.

Radio transceiver, standard VHF marine when operating near inland shore, 121.5 MHz AM VHF guard channel capable aircraft band transceiver to contact rescuers and high overflying commercial and military aircraft visible by contrails, an optional amateur radio if a licensed radio amateur, (see Ham Radio) or an AM/FM/Weather/Shortwave radio receiver to receive precise time for celestial navigation as well as weather information

An important application where interval-censored data arises is current status data, where an event T i {\displaystyle T_{i}} is known not to have occurred before an observation time and to have occurred before the next observation time.

The water from swamps, even after they’ve been purified, can still smell really dodgy. To remedy this, add some charcoal to the water while it’s being boiled. Not only does this add to the purification process, but it also makes the water taste much more drinkable and jettison the bad smell.

There are a ton of high-quality flashlights out there. A high-quality flashlight is one of the first things that goes into my survival kit. Invest in a good quality light as it can save your life in a difficult situation.

The ShippingPass assortment is continually being optimized. Products are added and removed for lots of reasons, but the main reason is to show items that we’re 100% sure we can deliver within the promised timeline.

That pepper spray will only cover you for the first day or two, and it won’t help you from further than 10′ away. What if your attacker(s) are armed? They’ve probably got better range than your pepper spray (even if it’s in a super soaker), and you better believe once the starving starts, you need good old fashioned lead ventilation (or the viable threat of it) to hold off the hungry. A 22 is a start but it won’t end threats quickly unless you’re Chris Kyle’s second coming.

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper. The Survival function S(t), is the probability that a subject survives longer than time t. S(t) is theoretically a smooth curve, but it is usually estimated using the Kaplan-Meier (KM) curve. The graph shows the KM plot for the aml data and can be interpreted as follows:
