LED lanterns and headlamps (yes, the dorky ones) are both a better, user friendly source for task lighting. Just try chopping that onion while holding a flashlight. No suggestions here but there are entire websites dedicated to each. Don’t go crazy on $$, this stuff is all made in the same place, probably by the same people. I have Streamlight, Ray-o-Vac and 30-Day currently on my shelf and I swear the parts are interchangeable.

Now just like most Johnny Rambo Wannabes, in my early dumb & naive military days I, too, use to pack & carry one of those super-duper wrist rocket slingshots to the field too. You know, just in case I had to hunt for my own food. And so I took mine with me wherever I went, the boonies, desert, jungles, mountains, everywhere!

Sooner or later, good weather or bad, your vehicle will get a flat. Then you have to get out the jack and lug wrench to the tire. The latter tool is what this is about. This is the wrench that came with my truck, which is like the one in most…

Ammo is heavy. Rocks and pebbles can be heavy too, but you don’t have to carry them. You can find them in nature. So while I don’t support slingshots as real self-defense weapons, I do think slingshots have a place in a survival gear list.

I discovered Mr. Rawles’ site a couple years ago, and you are correct! It is fantastic, but I am glad to learn about more sites, though I do visit SHTF often. Not strictly survival sites, but fantastic for financial/economic information, I highly recommend http://www.zerohedge.com and http://www.dollarcollapse.com and also for all the news that is fit (or not) to print, http://www.rense.com. There are not enough hours in the day for me to read all the wonderful information on the internet.

From the definition of Λ ( t ) {\displaystyle \Lambda (t)} , we see that it increases without bound as t tends to infinity (assuming that S(t) tends to zero). This implies that λ ( t ) {\displaystyle \lambda (t)} must not decrease too quickly, since, by definition, the cumulative hazard has to diverge. For example, exp ⁡ ( − t ) {\displaystyle \exp(-t)} is not the hazard function of any survival distribution, because its integral converges to 1.

I’m always on a tight budget, so yes, much of my kit is recycled or repurposed. Always remember, you don’t have to go out and buy everything. Adapt, improvise, and overcome. The most beautiful trout I ever caught was caught on a fresh cut bit of bamboo about 4 feet long, dental floss, and improvised wooden fish hook with a beetle tied to it as bait. That beetle put up one hell of a fight. Dental floss is an excellent investment for bugging in or out. Besides the obvious use of dental hygeine, it’s very tough, cheap, compact and lightweight in it’s own little super convenient package, and can be used in any application where a bit of string would serve better than 550 cord/paracord. Can even be used to close wounds in a pinch, multiple strands can be braided together for applications requiring more tensile strength when 550 cord is unavailable, and can be woven into a net. I used some braided strands in Afghanistan as an improvised bootlace to serve my needs until I got back to my patrol base where my spare laces were stowed.

The Fed has created a mountain of problems for everyone in the United States and every single solution that they come up with leads to even more problems. Ron Paul recently discussed what the Fed has done, how it tries to keep things going, and the inevitable economic crisis that is coming.

To answer such questions, it is necessary to define lifetime. In the case of biological survival, death is unambiguous, but for mechanical reliability, failure may not be well-defined, for there may well be mechanical systems in which failure is partial, a matter of degree, or not otherwise localized in time. Even in biological problems, some events (for example, heart attack or other organ failure) may have the same ambiguity. The theory outlined below assumes well-defined events at specific times; other cases may be better treated by models which explicitly account for ambiguous events.

The book is divided into six separate chapters, followed by a list of fictional attacks throughout history and an appendix. The first chapter, The Undead: Myths and Realities, outlines Solanum, a fictional and incurable virus that creates a zombie, along with details on how it is spread (such as through an open wound, or contact with infected blood or saliva), and treatment of the infected (such as suicide or amputation of the injured limb, though the latter rarely works). The middle of this chapter explains the abilities and behavioral patterns of the undead, and the differences between voodoo zombies, movie zombies, and zombies created by Solanum.

Even after the fire had died, the rocks will still hold on to enough heat to keep you warm. The heat of the rock can also be used to purify water. Simply place them inside aluminium cans filled with water. It will cause the water to boil, purifying it enough to be safe to drink.

Go ahead, pick up any survival handbook and inside you’ll find the same old boring repetitive stuff. How to make a spear from a stick, a bow & arrow from some tree saplings, and a slingshot from a Y-shape tree branch.

The randomForestSRC package includes an example survival random forest analysis using the data set pbc. This data is from the Mayo Clinic Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC) trial of the liver conducted between 1974 and 1984. In the example, the random forest survival model gives more accurate predictions of survival than the Cox PH model. The prediction errors are estimated by bootstrap re-sampling.

With a good set of binoculars you’re going to be able to see greater detail at further distances and with less eye strain than a cheap pair. Cheap binoculars are for your kids in the backyard looking at birds — not hunting game at far distances or traveling through the wilderness.

Ditto on kenneth,s comments. Greatlist! Most of what I know so far is from fiction and pinterest and other readings. I had to decide if I really wanted to live after the Shtf. I am retired military and have diabetes and had a stroke in Nov. I have grit~completed a 26 mile marathon. But now find it hard to do anything. I am A “young” 68 y.o. according to my doc. How can I find other close.to me so we can split up the the work and get organized ? Thanks in advance

Indeed, if you’re lost or injured, the right gear can mean the difference between a comfortable night spent outdoors and a cold one. Items like a whistle or a signal mirror can alter fate to issue rescue instead of abandonment.

Laser pointer for signaling aircraft (red is color of distress, but green color is higher power and will be seen farther), with lithium cells, in double waterproof plastic pouch (pointers of high power are a theoretical hazard to eyes of low-flying pilots at night)

It’s time to get creative. Familiarize yourself with how to build a lean-to; there are various types of shelters you can build and each has different pros and cons. Obviously you want overhead covering for warmth at night and protection from the elements. If you are in rocky, mountainous terrain, look for overhangs. Otherwise, use limbs and leaves or anything that can provide insulation. Pine needles usually blanket the ground in thick batches, excellent for bedding.

There are a ton of high-quality flashlights out there. A high-quality flashlight is one of the first things that goes into my survival kit. Invest in a good quality light as it can save your life in a difficult situation.

If you go with tarp, buy yourself three or four measuring 10×12 or a bit larger. With a few tarps you can build yourself a small shelter that is sealed and insect proof, nearly as well as a tent. With some duct tape (to tape tarp edges) or a heavy duty sewing needle and thread you can stitch together a shelter made of tarp in no time.

Good point! I definitely need to add the pool shock to the list, and entertainment in general needs a separate category methinks! There are lots of little things you can have at home that would help with that (Bananagrams comes to mind too, for instance, especially for just at home and not taking it in a pack or anything).

3. Hydration bag: MSR Dromedary Bag 10-L ($44.95) — Though the MSR Dromedary hydration bag comes in several sizes, going with the 10-L allows you to the flexibility to vary your volume, depending on your current need. What sets this bag apart from others is its tough outer shell, which protects against abrasions and leakage.

SURVIVOPEDIA helps people regain their peace of mind – by becoming more self-reliant and self sufficient in all aspects of life: from putting food on the table, to keeping your loved one safe, and staying in good health.

A torch is an excellent way to illuminate your path in the dark. You can also use it as a weapon to ward off attacks from wild animals. To make a torch, find a branch of a tree and split it in half. Stick a piece of bark in the fork and light the split end, that’s all! Birch tree branches make great torches.

Great sites indeed. I must have been on all of them in the past year. I’m more interested in the alternative energy area…rather than prepping. But you are right…I found a lot of great articles. Mac Slavo is my all time favorite though.

The Free Credit Card Knife they are currently offering is described as having the size and weight of a credit card and can be unfolded in just a moment. It has a surgical steel blade that is both durable and rust free, as well as a protective hand guard helps you grip and stops the blade from slipping and a built in safety sheath to prevent accidents.

Though the media often attempts to twist the gun rights debate into a web of complexity, gun rights is in fact a rather simple issue — either you believe that people have an inherent right to self defense, or you don’t.

An elderly man is suing two federal government agencies for Constitutional rights violations. The rancher claims that both agencies trespassed on his property and installed cameras on his trees without his permission – but the icing on the cake was when they threatened to arrest him.

  1. A man calling himself a time traveler claims to have been born in 2043 and has come back in time to let us know that nuclear war is imminent. Saying his name is Michael Phillips, the YouTube channel APEX TV uploaded a video of the man also claiming the “Big One” will hit California soon too.
What is a negative is the helplessness others feel when they read these blogs and see there is know way than achieve many of the qty’s of supplies and possibly having a another home to run to. Many people feel conquered already and try to make it week to week let alone stock supplies for an uprising.
