In this scenario, it’s not enough to just recommend a good lighter — what you need in this case is actually a proven fire starter — something that will help you get a fire going fast if you’re in an emergency that may end shortly in death by hypothermia.

Throughout our lives we use acronyms to learn and remember a variety of things. From NASA to AWOL to SEALs, we certainly do love our acronyms. When it comes to survival there’s a wealth of acronyms to help you be as prepared as possible. Take, for example, PACE. Typically pace is a word that’s more at home in the realm of car racing or running, but in the survival world, PACE is a way of making sure you’re ready for whatever the world has to throw at you. This can be a bug-out plan, a get-home plan, or a home-defense plan. Whatever type of prepping or survival plan you’re thinking o… Continue Reading →

While there may be no single BEST flashlight, there are certainly plenty of attributes to be considered when selecting your flashlight. Light is of upmost importance in a survival situation, but the ability to see in the dark is something that you should never be far from in any situation. For example, I never go out of town without a […]
The good news is you have a lot of choices in survival lighters. You can go cheap with a standard BIC lighter, or you can go high-tech with a Tesla lighter. Or go with anything in-between like a zippo.
Financial guru Peter Schiff, who accurately predicted the recession of 2008, says the problems we face now are even bigger. We will live through another Great Depression if Schiff is correct. And one of the main concerns is something very few dare to even mention or show a concern about: the national debt. Schiff’s podcast from […]
A compass is also an item of critical importance when traveling in the woods. You can point your compass in the direction of the city or wherever you are embarking from, and remember the direction the compass’s pointer points in. That way, if you’re lost in the woods, all you have to do is turn around until the compass points in the correct direction, and then follow your way back.

– Mora knives are spectacular – look at them, in the event that you can’t find one, check out a local bait/tackle shop, chances are there is a knife just like it there – same sheath and all (I just found this out after owning a tom of Moras, and the steel is just as good, with a slightly thicker blade..)
Ask yourself: Am I healthy enough to be an astronaut? Alternating between moments of weightlessness and gravitational forces reaching about four times those of Earth’s atmosphere, many coasters put your body through a mini space camp. Your organs will temporarily float inside you, and your heart rate may soar above 200 beats per minute. Read the ride’s safety warnings carefully.
The transportation items may include bicycles with off-road tires and suspension, emergency tools and spare auto parts (e.g., fuses, fan belts, light bulbs, head light, tire pump, etc.), and an inflatable raft with paddles.

The Zombie Survival Guide, written by American author Max Brooks and published in 2003, is a survival manual dealing with the fictional potentiality of a zombie attack. It contains detailed plans for the average citizen to survive zombie uprisings of varying intensity and reach, and describes cases of zombie outbreaks in history, including an interpretation of Roanoke Colony. The Zombie Survival Guide was also featured on The New York Times Best Seller’s list. Brooks’ inspiration for The Zombie Survival Guide was his childhood interest in zombies, sparked by the first zombie movie he ever saw, circa age 10: Revenge of the Zombies (1943).

Very comprehensive list, the first one I’ve seen a Personal Location Beacon on. I will comment on one aspect, communication, my family is scattered all over the country and I’m sure (hopefully) they will all want to know I’m OK. We have one member of the family as a contact for all of us to call on our cell phones. Local communication lines will be jammed, internet will be down. The next goal will be to remain safe for the first 3 days, but communication is #1. Good article! A lot of knowledge here.
Flee your feed: The Google Chrome Web browser offers free extensions that will remove all mentions of the election from your social media feed (others replace candidates’ names with the poop emoji). And remember: There’s no shame in hiding a friend’s or a family member’s annoying Facebook posts; neither will ever find out about it, and it’s easier than starting a digital shouting match.
Previously here on NicheHacks.com I had a much nicer looking layout on the home page but bounce rate was high so I double column posts and bounce rate dropped significantly. It doesn’t look as nice but that’s not what is important.
• My next tip maybe common sense to some, but figured it’s still worth noting: for better maintenance of keeping balance, it’s best to keep heavier things on top and the lighter items at the bottom. What this will do is help you with stability while you are on the move.
