When choosing what rifle to recommend as one of the choices for Top 10 Survival Gear, I went to the experts at Outdoor Life. They know the hunting industry. They know guns. I have to say that the Marlin 336XLR comes in as a great choice for a hunting rifle specifically due to it’s accuracy. New hunters need as much help as they can get right? This 30-30 gets top billing for deer but in all actuality a 30.30. can take down just about any game animal in North America, including grizzly bears. Carry the right ammunition for the game you plan to hunt; don’t use the same ammo you would use to take down a deer (150 grain) as you would for a turkey or small game (100-125 grain).

You have a freedom to choose your own purpose, and this pressure to choose can be viewed also as burden. When you feel you must find your purpose, you can look at your mind from distance and be conscious about it.

If you bait these traps you have greater chances of not only catching an animal, but catching it faster than if you didn’t bait these traps. How would you like to check your traps the next morning and find a few animals snared, not just one (if you were lucky to get even one)? (Kaytee Squirrel and Critter Blend provides natural bait for an urban survival or live off the land scenario).

If you do get hurt or sick, it is important to have a solid understanding of medicinal plants and herbal remedies. This area of study also spills outside the bounds of this page of our wilderness survival guide. Here too, we have also devoted an entire section of our website to learning this ancient art:

Financial guru Peter Schiff, who accurately predicted the recession of 2008, says the problems we face now are even bigger. We will live through another Great Depression if Schiff is correct. And one of the main concerns is something very few dare to even mention or show a concern about: the national debt. Schiff’s podcast from […]

Here is SurvivalBlog’s News From The American Redoubt. This weekly column features news stories and event announcements from around the American Redoubt region. We also mention companies of interest to preppers that are located in the region. The emphasis this week is on the patterns of migration into the American Redoubt, based on IRS statistics. It is interesting to see where the newcomers are originating. I’ll provide some details on the three core Redoubt States. (But I’ll skip Oregon and Washington, because their statistics are skewed by inflows to their populous western halves.)

This free app has so much practical information that it goes beyond survival. It’s extremely useful for recreational camping and hiking also. It’s well written and very useful for the casual or hardcore outdoorsman. Hasn’t been updated in forever but it’s good enough as is.

Rawles has seven books in print that are sold by mainstream booksellers: five novels and two nonfiction survival books. His second nonfiction book, titled Tools for Survival, was published in late 2014.[30]

Find or create shelter. Without adequate shelter, you will be fully exposed to the elements and will risk hypothermia or heatstroke, depending on the weather. If you are not properly dressed for the conditions, finding shelter is all the more important. Luckily, the woods are filled with tools and resources to make both shelters and fires (for warmth, safety, and signaling purposes). Here are some things you can use:

4. Folding knife: The TecX Inceptra Fold-Up Knife ($24.99) is secure and sharp. This inexpensive fold-up knife is lightweight and conveniently folds for safety. Also, it easily shaves wood for kindling or serves as spear point.

Self-defense is a fundamental human right. I’m not willing to relinquish that right, no matter how many tragedies occur in this crazy world. No many how many wicked or insane persons use guns to do evil, I will assert my … Continue reading →

Rawles has lived in San Jose, California; near Orofino, Idaho; near Smartsville (formerly Smartville, California); in Fremont, California; and near New Washoe City, Nevada. An article published by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in 2008 incorrectly asserted that Rawles lived in California, but later in that article, Rawles noted that the location of his ranch in the United States is kept secret. We don’t actually reveal our location, even at the state level. All that I’m allowed to say is that we’re somewhere west of the Rockies. We intentionally keep a very low profile. We just don’t want a lot of people camping out on our doorstep the day after everything hits the fan.[78] The German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung asserts that the ranch is in northern Idaho.[79] Others have claimed that the undisclosed location of the ranch is in Nevada, Utah, Wyoming or even in Central America.[2] His mailing forwarding is in Newcastle, Wyoming.[80] A CNN Europe article written before his first wife died noted that Rawles …lives on a ranch in an undisclosed location with his wife (who he refers to in his blog affectionately as ‘the Memsahib’) and their children. Their life is almost entirely self-sufficient: They keep livestock, hunt elk and the children are schooled at home. Stored away in the ranch somewhere is a three-year supply of food.[81] In an article titled The Most Dangerous Novel in America, Rawles told The Daily Beast: I’m not at liberty to discuss where I live. It’s part of an agreement I made with my wife. I really can’t go into the details. We live in a very remote area. I embrace technology. We don’t live in a cellphone area, but I’m online constantly. We’re just prepared to live off-grid, if the power grid goes down. Because of the nature of my blog and my novel, I don’t just want anonymity, I need anonymity. I could wake up some morning in the aftermath of some crisis and look out in my barnyard and see five Winnebagos and some television news crews. I don’t want fans of my books to descend on my property, so I have to be perspicacious.[5] In 2009, Rawles told an Agence France-Presse reporter: I’m surrounded by national forest. A river runs through the back end of the property, so there’s no shortage of water and no shortage of fish or game to shoot. If Western civilization were to collapse tomorrow, I’d have to read about it on the Internet. I just wouldn’t notice.[82] His U.S. mail address is a post office box in Newcastle, Wyoming, but his main web site server is in Sweden.[80] On an appearance on a September 2013 radio show, he indicated in conversation that he was located in the inland Northwest.

Don’t get me wrong; it is entirely understandable! However, if you want to get out of the situation, you must rely on sound judgment. If you are agitated, overly anxious or panicking, your brain will not think properly.

I can appreciate the flexibility of the Sawyer system, nice tip about the gravity fed filter hack! I really do like the Lifestraw for casual rambling in the wilderness based on size and weight (check out my review). Thankfully in Canada fresh water is never really an issue! 😉

If you only remember one thing from this wilderness survival guide, it’s this: The #1 wilderness survival priority is maintaining a calm center. Keeping your head on your shoulders. Staying cool. Sustaining a positive mental attitude.

I’m sorry, but 1 million a month is bullshit – it seems highly unlikely, especially given the fact that they are using this website to promote their business as digital marketers. If you’re making 1 million a month in an untapped niche, you’d be insane to be broadcasting to the world how well you are doing, let alone be selling guides on how to replicate their success. I was expecting to see their website riddled with affiliate links and reviews and such – but all I really saw were ads here and there. Given their traffic levels, I’d imagine they make 5k-25k at most.
