This means going for waterproof versions of equipment (i.e. watches and compasses) and getting equipment that will keep your other stuff protected from water. Always use containers that have waterproof seals and never mix anything damp with all your other drop stuff. This is especially important for food containers, because moisture can only hasten spoilage. Water may be essential for hydration, but for everything else, staying as dry as possible is a must for survival.

As we’ve covered in the past here on Listverse, there are approximately one billion ways you could die. Nuclear winter, the robopocalypse—heck, just a simple camping trip gone wrong could leave you trapped in the merciless grip of nature’s fury, with nothing but your own wits and the questionable advice of this list to get you out alive.

The question we must ask is this – Is Trump aware that his policies are creating a perfect distraction for those same banking elites? I believe we will know for certain the answer to that before 2018 is over.

Purify your water. A crude method of water purification is to take your handy pot and heat the water. For this to effectively kill bacteria, it must be at rolling boil for at least three minutes.[1] You can also put (clear) water in a clear plastic bottle and set it in the sun for six hours to kill most of the organisms.[2]

Happy Holidays, everybody! Here’s a little gift from me to you – I’ve posted four cover songs I recorded this year for my email list. (Don’t worry email list, I still love you!! There are more covers in your future.) To hear all four and read a little description of each, go to my SoundCloud page at soundcloud.com/survivalguide or just click the text above. Stay tuned, and have a great holiday!! <3 Random House published The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks, a tie-in comic written by Brooks. This book illustrates some of the recorded attacks, but not all. It was released on October 6, 2008.[6][7] Brazilian artist Ibraim Roberson illustrated the book.[8] Conservatives and their Libertarian allies are developing legislative majorities in several state capitols. Precinct by precinct, American Redoubt adherents are gaining the helms of Republican Party committees. Slates of quite conservative Republican candidates are winning at the county and State levels to displace the RINO Old Guard. Ditto for school boards, city councils, and county commissions. Outspokenly pro-gun and pro-life folks are getting elected as county sheriffs. I read Mr. Rawles’ Blog (Survival Blog) daily and The Survival Mom about twice a week. The problem is that neither radio can really take the beating of a survival situation, and the price of the FR 350 has become ridiculous since they were discontinued. We have a money-making market available for anyone who can produce an emergency radio that uses alternative power sources and is built to withstand a real crisis. This compass has it all and is very acurate compared with my other compasses I have in my boat and truck. The accessories tucked away within are really cool too. Option one: Embrace it. Listen to the song all the way through, at full volume, ideally singing along. The idea is that by confronting your brain with the full

But this isn’t just a radio. It also includes a flashlight, a beacon and a cell-phone charger. Be careful with the Home Depot lids….they are NOT as strong as sheetrock mud buckets or others.  Won’t take a lot of beating before they crack……use a rubber mallet to avoid problems.  I’m sure HD uses the minimum bid contractor, just like all their house brand stuff.

Bamboo Sling Bow: Here’s another survival weapon you can make out of a hollow bamboo stick or any piece of hallow wood or plastic tubing. Only that this weapon is only good for shooting arrows and sticks, no rocks. Again, all you need is two (2) 1/2 inch long screw eyelets, some thick rubberbands, a little bit of duct tape and a knife. And then take a good close look at these photos you should be able to figure out how to make it.

To undo a sugar binge, start with a spoonful of PB: the protein and fat help slow down digestion and delay the inevitable blood sugar crash. Then resist the fetal position: get up and walk around. Relying on one signal mirror isn’t a good idea because the sun always travels south. This means that a single mirror will not allow you to catch the attention of rescuers flying from the north. The second signal mirror will be essential to reflect the light you get from the south to reflect into the northern direction. Simply hold one of the mirrors facing south and another facing north, making sure that the light bounces off both.

I have to admit it, I LOVE wilderness survival. I first began learning wilderness survival out of a deep, primal need to feel in my bones that I could provide for my most basic human needs directly from nature. It seemed crazy to me that my life was totally dependent on a complex system of grocery stores, polluted highways, telecommunication systems, electric grids, modern structures, water treatment plants, and more. I mean, shouldn’t we all be able to be in direct relationship with our most primary needs? Perhaps idealistic, but that is what inspired me to begin my journey to become a wilderness survival guide over a decade ago.

Take any small piece of cloth and place it inside a metal container. Make sure that the container has a cover. Burn the container (with the cloth inside it) for a couple of minutes. You know you’re doing it right if the cloth remains intact but is dark from all the burning. Char cloth is really great for starting fires because it catches fire with just a small spark. Tip: Try cutting or ripping a large cloth into really small pieces and neatly roll them inside a tuna can. You’ll have yourself an entire pack of char cloth!

Most of the items on this list are must-have survival gear pieces. With the proper tools, you can typically make your own shelter in case you need to, or fix one that you already have. Good survival tools can also help you to gather wood for creating fire for heat and to cook with, which is why tools are the very first thing on our list.

Hopefully, the comments by president Donald Trump are a wakeup call for all Americans, as his statements should have all but sealed his fate in 2020.  Look forward to an overly leftist dictator for president in the next election cycle, although it won’t be much different than how Trump is acting now.

Survival Power: Though a Marlin 336XLR comes at a higher price, this rifle is suggested for people who haven’t spent a lot of time on a gun range — and again that is due to it’s higher accuracy, requiring less marksmanship skills to get your aim correct. There are rifles that do come in at a lot less cost; but with these rifles a lot more time should spent learning how to shoot with a scope so that you can correctly hit your target.

Option two: Replace it. Play a different song all the way through, at full volume, in an attempt to chase away your earworm with something more forgettable.
In one U.K. study, the most popular “cure” song was the national anthem, “God Save the Queen.” On this side of the pond, try humming “The Star-Spangled

Most people don’t even think about basic survival skills as something they must acquire. Most of the people that I talk to believe that they will never end up in a ‘survival’ situation. I will tell you what I say those people; you don’t ‘plan’ to get into a situation like that! It just happens. And God forbid, should such a situation arise, you must be prepared.

A lot has been said on the web by hunters, hikers, and wilderness officers on the effectiveness air horns have had to scare off bears, specifically grizzly bears. The official data is that an air horn may or may not work. After hearing what multiple people have had to say with varying credentials, my conclusion is that an air horn might be effective to scare off a grizzly bear 80-90% of the time. People who have used it caution others to hold the horn down so that it makes a long, continued noise. Bear hearing is more sensitive than a human’s and that could be one reason why grizzlies have run at the sound of an air horn. Sometimes it may not work for you though — equipment failure may occur unexpectedly (we don’t live in a perfect world) or maybe a bear is simply too hungry or too angry. For these scenarios, have a back up plan.

Be aware that a rain storm in a dry canyon system can bring flash flooding — so better to make your shelter on higher ground. At the same time, camping along a river bank, especially in the spring time, can also be dangerous — if rains fall in the nearby mountains, and as snow melts from the previous winter’s accumulation, flash flooding can take place. Better to camp up on higher ground in this case as well.

Why? Well, ounce for ounce, an animal’s eyeball will give you more protein that a steak. Admittedly, Bear grimly declared the thing was “awful” after eating that eyeball in Siberia, but you’ve got to be strong-stomached if you’re willing to survive. A choice between death and eating an eyeball? We’d definitely go with the latter.

After a rainfall, you can bet that moss, leaves, and all sorts of plants around you are wet. Collecting bundles of them and wringing them over a container can net you as much as a litre of water. Make sure you check out the tall grass as well. This is good for collecting fresh water because rainwater is guaranteed to be clean. This is also one of the easiest ways to collect water without having to purify it. Alternatively, you can also rub your clothes against the grass and wring out the moisture that gets stuck unto them.

Needs jungle/woods update The game doesn’t have water procurement and stuff like that for jungles or wooded areas. I haven’t had to buy anything but there’s multiple copies of this app that say the same things this one does. I would give it 5 stars if it had an update or an addition to it.

On December 1, 2015, Rawles released the novel Land of Promise, the first book in the Counter-Caliphate Chronicles novel series. This science fiction novel is a geopolitical thriller that is a considerable departure from his previous Patriots thriller novel series. Set in the late 2130s, Land of Promise fictionally describes the world under the economic and military domination of a Global Islamic Caliphate, brought about by a fictional new branch of Islam, called The Thirdists. The novel also describes the establishment of a Christian nation of refuge called The Ilemi Republic, in East Africa. This is the first book in a planned six-novel series. It is the first release from Liberty Paradigm Publishing, a publishing venture launched by Rawles in partnership with his literary agent Robert Gottlieb of Trident Media Group.[62][63]

Ammo is heavy. Rocks and pebbles can be heavy too, but you don’t have to carry them. You can find them in nature. So while I don’t support slingshots as real self-defense weapons, I do think slingshots have place in a survival gear list.

With a bit of ingenuity you’ve built yourself a shelter that costs much less than a popular brand name tent and should be able to withstand more wear and tear and protect from rain and wind, even snow. In a time of collapse and evacuation, it also catches less attention than something bright blue or orange or yellow like a popular brand name tent.
I understand that you’re going to expand the tools listing…may I suggest you research either homesteading sites or sustainability sites because without the tools to plant, harvest, and store their garden produce and the seeds (either saved or in form of a survival seed cache) necessary to replenish their food stores, a lot of people will be in trouble after that first year or two or three on their own passes. Not to mention the learning curve and the skills needed for those activities.

When choosing what rifle to recommend as one of the choices for Top 10 Survival Gear, I went to the experts at Outdoor Life. They know the hunting industry. They know guns. I have to say that the “Marlin 336XLR” comes in as a great choice for a hunting rifle specifically due to it’s accuracy. New hunters need as much help as they can get right? This “30-30″ gets top billing for deer but in all actuality a 30.30. can take down just about any game animal in North America, including grizzly bears. Carry the right ammunition for the game you plan to hunt; don’t use the same ammo you would use to take down a deer (150 grain) as you would for a turkey or small game (100-125 grain).

I’ve ordered several items from this company and have got exactly what I was promised. As some others have stated, the products were made in China but are what they promised. I feel I got a fair product for a fair price. I’ll watch for unexpected charges but have not had any so far. I’m happy with this company. And yes I would recommend them to friends. Also, I’ve order the HR30, the spy pen, the fire starter and a flash light and all came in good time and were decent products for what I paid.
I love these things. This WetFire product is very lightweight, easy to ignite, and it has a long burn time. Each cube weighs just .16 ounces and is capable of burning up to 10 minutes at temperatures around 1,300°F. They work in wet and windy conditions with ease. They even float and keep burning, even while floating in water. I’ve been bringing these little waxy cubes out for show-and-tell during survival classes for several years, and I’ve always observed impressive results in the field, regardless of the weather. In my most recent tests, a cube burned for 9.5 minutes on a very damp day—twice the burn time of the homemade alternative (Vaseline-soaked cotton balls). The flame was also much taller than the petroleum jelly on a cotton ball. Several spikes from the WetFire cube were 9 or 10 inches tall, which is twice the height of the flame from a greasy cotton ball.
Food supplies in a bug-out vehicle include hundreds of pounds of wheat, rice, and beans, and enough honey, powdered milk, canned goods, bottled fruit, vitamins, dehydrated fruits and vegetables, salt, pepper, spices, and oil for several months. In addition, the kits often contain high-calorie energy bars, a cooking kit, utensils, liquid soap, and towels. The water supplies may include bottled water, filtering kit, bottles, collapsible water containers, and chlorine bleach for water purification. Food preparation and washing equipment may include items such as a grain grinder, a bread mixer, a strainer, a manual can opener, a steam canner with canning jars and O-rings, cutlery, knives, an electric 12-volt cooler icebox, kerosene lamps and heaters, kerosene or propane stoves, extra fuel, a clothes wringer, a foot-operated treadle sewing machine, and an electric hot plate (which would require an inverter to operate off a car battery).
Whether you’re working around the house, cutting rope for your campsite, splicing electrical wires in the garage, or slicing up vegetables, our small, but effective folding pocket knife will get the job done right.
At only 21 pounds in weight, it’s light for what it is, can be used even in the cold of winter and is sure to make things a whole lot easier when it comes to food if you’re struggling in the wild! This is one expensive survival gadget, but it’s also one you’re sure to be thankful for.
Staying warm on a cold night is never truly appreciated until you spend 10 hours shivering in a sleeping bag not rated for the sudden drop in temperature that just took place the night before. There’s a solution, though: a Goretex modular sleeping bag system. What you get is a sleeping bag with a sleeping bag liner (effectively creating multiple layers of sleeping bag, based on how cold it is). The primary bag is rated to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Add the interior layer and this cold temperature rating drops to minus 10 degrees.

For these reasons, I have (MOSTLY) excluded the MSK-1 from this List and Video.

JWR is a journalist, technical writer, and novelist. His survivalist novel Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse, is a modern classic that reached #3 on the New York Times bestsellers list. Two of his other novels have also been best New York Times bestsellers.

His Tools For Survival: What You Need to Survive When You’re on Your Own (2014) is another non-fiction book drawn primarily from his SurvivalBlog.com posts. It was released on December 30, 2014, by Penguin Books, and immediately jumped to #1 in Amazon’s Survival & Emergency Preparedness books category. The paperback book’s ISBN is 978-0-452-29812-5. It is also sold as an e-book and audiobook.[60][61]

Prepper gear should also include at least basic first aid supplies and medicine. Though the medicine you can stockpile could never be enough to remedy each and every situation, having a basic first aid kit and some standard medicine will typically get you through a great deal of difficult situations.

Throughout our lives we use acronyms to learn and remember a variety of things. From NASA to AWOL to SEALs, we certainly do love our acronyms. When it comes to survival there’s a wealth of acronyms to help you be as prepared as possible. Take, for example, PACE. Typically pace is a word that’s more at home in the realm of car racing or running, but in the survival world, PACE is a way of making sure you’re ready for whatever the world has to throw at you. This can be a bug-out plan, a get-home plan, or a home-defense plan. Whatever type of prepping or survival plan you’re thinking o… Continue Reading →

Tip: Also purchase roadside flares and keep on hand for an emergency calling for a fast fire. Flame-producing hand held roadside flares like Orion Safety Flares are different than the ones above and not fired from a gun. Carry these in your vehicle and take a couple on your next hiking trip packed safely in a waterproof container — these can be used to start a fire in wet conditions also, with very little work.

I ordered 8 items on 7/16 & 7/17/15 & waited 21 business days without result (they charged my credit cards & I paid for the goods the day they were ordered). I called on 8/18/15 asking where my orders were. I was advised that they had a tracking number (never provided) but that the items were sold out. I asked when they’d be available without result. I demanded a refund which they agreed to provide. To my dismay, however, I discovered I had been charged $19.95 twice .unknowingly. I await the credit to my credit card. I was offended by the practice this firm engages in of unknowingly charging its customers $19.95 per order received without ever disclosing the fact that it will be doing so and without the customer’s knowledge or permission. This is a deceptive, offensive & unethical practice which honest merchants do not engage in. Accordingly, BE WARNED THAT YOULL BE CHARGED IMPROPERLY & YOU WILL NOT BE ADVISED OF SUCH CHARGES. OTHER REVIEWS MANIFEST THE FACT THAT THIS IS THIS MERCHANTS REGULAR CONDUCT. BEWARE!!!!!

Go ahead, pick up any survival handbook and inside you’ll find the same old boring repetitive stuff. How to make a spear from a stick, a bow & arrow from some tree saplings, and a slingshot from a Y-shape tree branch.

To keep hunting pressure to a minimum, consider bow hunting due to the fact that gun shots can spook wildlife. The draw back to hunting with a bow is that bow hunting requires a lot of time learning how to shoot correctly — but it can be done and may be well worth the effort in the end for long term survival.

The workshop was more than just enlightening; it actually put us in charge of own success, and aligned us with others who are doing the same thing. I absolutely feel that I (and any one of us) could easily shoot for a huge client. The exercises in the workshop gave me the confidence, power, and intimate knowledge to know how to be a high-level pro. Not just the craft behind the shots which I’ve already been doing for more than a decade, but the whole business end of things, that can seem overly daunting to a creative type. But sorting this stuff out properly allows you to enjoy the creativity that comes from the gigs, focus on landing them, and provide direction for your energies.

Interesting list, but I don’t see a knife sharpener. Lansky and Smith both make pocket size models for short term field use by those who can’t free hand a whet stone. If you have alcohol handy, pour some alcohol on the wound. It will further decrease the number of pathogens. Although to be effective, you must use hard drinks such as whiskey or rum. Drinks like beer have too less alcohol to be of any help in this situation.

Ammo is heavy. Rocks and pebbles can be heavy too, but you don’t have to carry them. You can find them in nature. So while I don’t support slingshots as real self-defense weapons, I do think slingshots have a place in a survival gear list.

When choosing a space blanket (a light, thin sheet of extremely reflective Mylar), spend a little extra to buy a larger, more durable model. A space blanket can be used to block wind and water, wrapped around the body prevent/counteract hypothermia, or even placed behind you to reflect a fire’s heat onto your back, but none of this is useful if the blanket is too small or tears the moment you unwrap it.

If you keep focusing the bright light onto some dry kindle, you will soon start a fire. The focal length of your improvised device is smaller than a magnifying glass so, you will have to hold this improvised device about 1-2 inches from the kindling.

Planning out what to eat after an emergency situation arises is one of the first things survivalists and preppers typically do.  Although stockpiling food is an excellent idea, it’s also great to have a plan for what happens if the emergency situation extends longer than a stockpile will last. Fishing and hunting outdoor gear, in this situation, will prove very valuable.

These three methods are asymptotically equivalent. For large enough N, they will give similar results. For small N, they may differ somewhat. The last row, Score (logrank) test is the result for the log-rank test, with p=0.011, the same result as the log-rank test, because the log-rank test is a special case of a Cox PH regression. The Likelihood ratio test has better behavior for small sample sizes, so it is generally preferred.

“The [Second Amendment’s] prohibition is general. No clause in the Constitution could by any rule of construction be conceived to give to Congress a power to disarm the people. Following a collapse, expect a lot of people in outlying towns to significantly increase the hunting pressure in adjacent wilderness areas within the first few days. That means much of the local wildlife is likely to flee for more remote areas due to this sudden increase in hunting pressure. Study your maps and consider starting your wilderness journey in a remote area less likely to have any human activity — which means you may have to go several more miles than you may have initially considered. But the payoff for traveling a few extra miles to start your push into the wilderness will likely be worth it — hunting is likely to be best in remote areas with little or no human activity.

^ Survivalists get ready for meltdown – CNN.com. 2 May 2008. Retrieved 22 February 2010. Of course, none of this kind of talk is that new. The nature of the threat may have changed but groups of various descriptions have been predicting a breakdown of society since biblical times – and very occasionally they’ve been right.

Conservatives and their Libertarian allies are developing legislative majorities in several state capitols.

• Use it to desalinate seawater. Just boil seawater underneath a tented poncho to catch the vapour and produce the water through condensation. This will separate the salt from the water, making it drinkable.

This free app has so much practical information that it goes beyond survival. It’s extremely useful for recreational camping and hiking also. It’s well written and very useful for the casual or hardcore outdoorsman. Hasn’t been updated in forever but it’s good enough as is.

Survival models can be usefully viewed as ordinary regression models in which the response variable is time. However, computing the likelihood function (needed for fitting parameters or making other kinds of inferences) is complicated by the censoring. The likelihood function for a survival model, in the presence of censored data, is formulated as follows. By definition the likelihood function is the conditional probability of the data given the parameters of the model. It is customary to assume that the data are independent given the parameters. Then the likelihood function is the product of the likelihood of each datum. It is convenient to partition the data into four categories: uncensored, left censored, right censored, and interval censored. These are denoted unc., l.c., r.c., and i.c. in the equation below.

Why would we carry gold? I can understand the importance of silver because it it $20 an ingot and can be used for trade and barter. Gold is a whopping $1,250 a coin, and no one in a SHTF crisis is going to have change for a purchase.

I ordered the free knife knowing going in that is was just a lure to get you to buy something else. When I saw the offer for a second free knife, I knew that is was a catch. If you bother to read anything else, it tells you that you are also going to be in their club and there was a monthly fee. I clicked on “no thanks” and got my free knife with no problems, and it is good for what it is.

Surviving in the wild — no matter the location or the time of year — depends more on human wit than the gear you have in your pack. But all survival experts still recommend assembling an emergency kit of equipment to stay with you at all times in the wilderness.
Yes, a good knife is a really great tool! The Gerber Bear Grylls knife I honestly sometimes think would be really popular in the community if it wasn’t for Bear Grylls name on it. Gets so much hate on it just for a name, which is a bit sad because in my opinion, it really is quite a good tool, especially as a practically overall survival kit. But yeah, glad you at least kept it in case you might one day want it/need it. I know many who would’ve returned it or thrown it away just cause of the name.

Many generators can be bought to run on Diesel, and LPG, and Propane. While others have yet other flex fuel capabilities. Do your Research. The brand and its capabilities. The typical generator package has a motor, a generator and an electrical panel. The motor can be gas. It can be Diesel… steam etc. The generator part is nearly an electrical that is motor spun. Forgetting the electrical mumbo jumbo and setting it aside. The generator part is not really a high tech part. That said, it is better to get a generator that is designed for just that purpose. (Unless you are an Electrical Engineer of note do not DIY this) The electrical sensors and panel, and parts are where the electrical design engineer gets his say. And earns his pay… or not?
A lot of people expect me carry a huge, Rambo-reminiscent survival knife, but in all truth, I’d rather be carrying a wood carving knife. Mora knives are my favorite wood carvers, since their laminated steel blades are strong, long wearing and razor sharp right out of the package. If you take the legendary Mora blade and add a quality spark rod handle insert from Light My Fire, you have the Swedish FireKnife.
Forti continued, “In reality, a backpack full of camping gear is simply a large ‘survival kit’ designed for a comfortable and extended stay in the wilderness. A much smaller version of this might consist of a tobacco tin with relatively few items tightly packed in.”

Survival Power: Though a Marlin 336XLR comes at a higher price, this rifle is suggested for people who haven’t spent a lot of time on a gun range — and again that is due to it’s higher accuracy, requiring less marksmanship skills to get your aim correct. There are rifles that do come in at a lot less cost; but with these rifles a lot more time should be spent learning how to shoot with a scope so that you can correctly hit your target.
Now, what it is, for the first time ever in history when you use radio waves––If you have a product and you shoot radio frequencies at it, what always happens is the radio frequencies goes through things, walls, materials, they don’t stay within things. With the Active Edge Technology, what we’ve been able to do is actually embed radio frequencies within a particular product.

I received my H.R. Richter multi tool today and was pretty disappointed with the size of the tool, it was no bigger than my index finger. Yhe saw on the end of one of the blades looked as if it was only good for cutting tooth picks, and the blade was only big enough to gut a chipmunk. Sorry but for twenty dollars and five dollars for shipping and handling, I’m pretty disappointed.
As you have said before, this list is not about surviving with a 150 lb backpack. It is about having the right tools to survive at home or in a cabin. I call it, as others have also called it, ‘Urban Survival’.
These are some excellent tips for sure! I will definitely be making separate B.O.B., home, car, etc. articles, but I wanted to have one that was just a huge list of kit people may have missed out on using with regards to just everything all at once. I know it’s a bit of a mess, but still hope it’s helpful to some to have the suggestions like this (a.k.a. all in one place). But yes! Definitely a good idea to have separation, which I will definitely do (eventually) with some new articles.
The Free Credit Card Knife they are currently offering is described as having the size and weight of a credit card and can be unfolded in just a moment. It has a surgical steel blade that is both durable and rust free, as well as a protective hand guard helps you grip and stops the blade from slipping and a built in safety sheath to prevent accidents.
In my version of BACK-UP power there are no sacred Cows. Of import is, where your power system will be used/installed. In the City, or suburbs these would require permits and skilled/knowledgable installers. While a system in a Farming Ranching setting might require other priorities. And lastly a remote installation. (Getting the stuff to the site might be difficult). Weight these criteria for each situation. Do not let someone talk you into a ONE-SIZE-FITS ALL.

The book is divided into six separate chapters, followed by a list of fictional attacks throughout history and an appendix. The first chapter, The Undead: Myths and Realities, outlines Solanum, a fictional and incurable virus that creates a zombie, along with details on how it is spread (such as through an open wound, or contact with infected blood or saliva), and treatment of the infected (such as suicide or amputation of the injured limb, though the latter rarely works). The middle of this chapter explains the abilities and behavioral patterns of the undead, and the differences between voodoo zombies, movie zombies, and zombies created by Solanum.

Survival Frog Survival Blog writers are real folks who live what they write about, not some content mill somewhere that churns out keyword rich blather intended to get search results, but providing little in the way of practical knowledge. I bought this for my kids 72 hr emergency kit. She is 11 and needs tools that are easy and organized. We went over all the features, how to use the knife, read the booklet inside and everything else. It’s small and lightweight. It’s a great addition to her go bags we bought a second for my who is a teenager. I may end up getting one for myself.

The problem with recommending a backpacking tent for survival is that good ones can be expensive; on top of that, tents are built for recreational use — not for long term use should you find yourself in a time of disaster and having to live off the land for possibly several weeks or even months.

High quality, durable blade. Very convenient and discreet. Fits in any credit card slot. This knife is for when you need to do something in a pinch, not heavy duty work. Very pleased with my purchase!

– Mora knives are spectacular – look at them, in the event that you can’t find one, check out a local bait/tackle shop, chances are there is a knife just like it there – same sheath and all (I just found this out after owning a tom of Moras, and the steel is just as good, with a slightly thicker blade..)

A long while back, close to when we originally started penning this blog, I published an article about the most popular/best selling survival books in existence. While I know there will be plenty of overlap (what kind of a survival book list w…

When disaster strikes, everyone affected goes into panic (or survival) mode. If you’ve watched any movie involving a catastrophe, you know that when resources are scarce and hope is in limited supply, anyone can be your worst enemy. Whatever you do or don’t do has to be in the best interests of your survival. So unless you are willing to die for someone, you must learn how to make it on your own without a second thought.

From 1984 to 1993, he served as a United States Army Military Intelligence officer.[7] He resigned his commission as a U.S. Army Captain immediately after Bill Clinton was inaugurated as President of the United States.[7]

I thought the same thing, at first. The thirty pages is the table of contents. Look on the left side of your screen. You click on each chapter, and only those pages are shown. I hope this makes sense.

Glow sticks can be life savers in survival situations. These are small sticks that are filled with a chemical substance that emits light when mechanical shock triggers a chemical reaction. I am sure you must have seen them at parties and such, but they are of great value to a survivalist.

Katyn Massacre. This brief (10 minute) British documentary from 1972 sums up what really happened in one of the  most notorious massacres of World War II. Can’t believe I missed this comment! Just took a look at the stove and it looks great! Want to get my hands on one to test it out. Looks like it would do absolutely perfectly as a backup/emergency stove. Thanks so much for recommending it, Darlene!

If you’re like most, not much about the Parkland, Florida school shooting has added up so far.  Now there are reports that the responding emergency medical teams sent in to save lives after the horrific shooting, were told to “stand down” while some of the students bled out.

A first aid kit is kind of a no-brainer, but you have to make sure you get yourself a good one. And this… this is a good one. In addition to all the usuals (bandages, scissors, etc.), this 100-piece kit also contains a compass, a poncho, a whistle, a CPR mask and a Mylar blanket. This isn’t just about first-aid. This is a full-on survival kit.

Let’s hope you won’t be dealing with any “127 Hours” situations, but severe bleeding can be a real problem when trudging around in the unknown. Arterial bleeding is the most severe, characterized by bright-red, pulsating blood flow.
