A lot has been said on the web by hunters, hikers, and wilderness officers on the effectiveness air horns have had to scare off bears, specifically grizzly bears. The “official data” is that an air horn may or may not work. After hearing what multiple people have had to say with varying credentials, my conclusion is that an air horn might be effective to scare off a grizzly bear 80-90% of the time. People who have used it caution others to hold the horn down so that it makes a long, continued noise. Bear hearing is more sensitive than a human’s and that could be one reason why grizzlies have run at the sound of an air horn. Sometimes it may not work for you though — equipment failure may occur unexpectedly (we don’t live in a perfect world) or maybe a bear is simply too hungry or too angry. For these scenarios, have a back up plan.
I don’t think you should give up the Quick Clots and swap them for maxi=pads or tampons. Quick Clot is shown to stop bleeding maybe 5 times faster which is life saving if you need that. A tampon/maxi-pad could be used for wounds, but not life threatening wounds. Just my 2 cents as a nurse.
With a good set of binoculars you’re going to be able to see greater detail at further distances and with less eye strain than a cheap pair. Cheap binoculars are for your kids in the backyard looking at birds — not hunting game at far distances or traveling through the wilderness.
Make sure your emergency kit is stocked with the items on the checklist below. Most of the items are inexpensive and easy to find, and any one of them could save your life. Headed to the store? Download a printable version to take with you. Once you take a look at the basic items, consider what unique needs your family might have, such as supplies for pets, or seniors.
We covered Survival Knives generally in our Bug Out Bag Essentials post but they are so useful it is worth re-hashing here. Generally you are better off getting a solid, full tang knife from a trusted knifemaker such as Ontario, Camillus, Becker, or Gerber. Stay away from hollow handled survival knives if at all possible. The small amount of storage space will not make up for the overall inferior build quality. For more information on choosing a good knife for any outdoors situation, check out our comprehensive guide by CLICKING HERE.
FIRST AID: When disaster strikes, minor injuries can quickly become major problems. Our disaster preparedness kit comes equipped with a 85-piece first aid kit, glowsticks, 5-1 emergency whistle, work gloves and masks so you can keep you and your family safe.
Ammo is heavy. Rocks and pebbles can be heavy too, but you don’t have to carry them. You can find them in nature. So while I don’t support slingshots as real self-defense weapons, I do think slingshots have place in a survival gear list.

In common words, the goal of human existence is to scramble for power and wealth.  Human society is just a stage for race, or competition. To the losers, competition is very cruel. Competition causes a lot of stress, so not everyone likes competition. If you give up, others, including your parents, will look down on you, and tell you that you are useless. Therefore, every one of us born in this society is forced to take part in the competition. Why is human society a stage for competition? Because human beings have needs. The first need is oxygen, and then the needs for food, water, clothes, housing and transportation are followed. All these things are not free, have limited supply, except oxygen. Nobody can survive without food, water, clothes and house, so, people feel unsafe, and then they desire for all these. This desire is limitless. Even if someone has gathered enough wealth for the rest of his life, he still wants to collect more for his children, even his grandchildren. The result of limited resources plus limitless desires is competition.
I agree with you. 90% of the people who think they will survive from any list will be sorely mistaken. They will die. This list or any other list is a reference for people to think about. Without a doubt there are other items people will regret not having. Duplication of item is not wasteful, but resourceful. If something breaks or is lost then you have a backup. A list is just a list. Using the items on a list, repeatedly, will give ‘brain’ muscle memory. You can not go out and buy a gun, and expect to know how to use it if you have never practiced. I have been an avid backpacker for decades; often traveling alone in the back country. I know how to use my equipment very well. I don’t have to ‘think’ about how to use my equipment.

where t is some time, T is a random variable denoting the time of death, and Pr stands for probability. That is, the survival function is the probability that the time of death is later than some specified time t. The survival function is also called the survivor function or survivorship function in problems of biological survival, and the reliability function in mechanical survival problems. In the latter case, the reliability function is denoted R(t).

I’ve had unbearable physical and emotional pain in my life. I lived through a life threatening illness, was bullied as a child, survived divorce and great financial problems. Similarly, you can survive about three weeks without food. Again, that does not mean that you will be up and about throughout the three weeks. It just means that you can ‘survive’ and not die if you don’t eat food for three weeks.

Avoid eating mushrooms or berries you can’t recognise, no matter how hungry you are. It’s better to be hungry than to eat something poisonous. Many berries in the forest, especially white berries, are poisonous – and a great deal of even edible mushrooms need to be cooked first.

Here’s a poem by the 13th century poet and scholar Rumi that I go right to whenever I need help to stabilize myself and feel good. It always makes me smile. Rumi describes life as like a ‘guest house’ where all kinds of things come and go and how we always have the choice to welcome it all, no matter what happens, and not to be a helpless victim. What does it say to you?

The form of the pyre or the fire lay is critical especially if you are trying to light it in a wet environment. Make sure that the shape of the fire lay is as conical as possible. If your fire lay is flat and scattered, it is going to be put out by the rain quicker.

Look, I had to include one big-baller survival tool, and it’s appropriate that it’s by Leatherman. This bracelet carries the Leatherman promise of quality (let’s note that 25-year guarantee again) but it also serves as a kickass and manly bracelet. A goddamn steel-tread bracelet. Wear it to the bar, wear it to work, wear it camping, wear it while you bone-down. Just, uh, be careful with that last one. That’s because this bracelet contains 29 screwdriver and wrench tools, along with a cutting hook, a bottle opener and even a sim card tool and glass breaker. Now that’s fashion.

By this point you should be pretty confident that you have what it takes to survive in the wild—so let’s up the stakes. You’re not just trapped out in the wilderness, now; you’re behind enemy lines, and you have to survive without letting the enemy know where you are. Obviously a fire is out of the question—or is it? A Dakota fire hole might be just what you need.

A torch is an excellent way to illuminate your path in the dark. You can also use it as a weapon to ward off attacks from wild animals. To make a torch, find a branch of a tree and split it in half. Stick a piece of bark in the fork and light the split end, that’s all! Birch tree branches make great torches.

Astronauts are provided with survival kits due to the difficulty of predicting where a spacecraft will land on its return to earth, especially in the case of an equipment failure. In early US space flights, the kit was optimised for survival at sea; the one provided for John Glenn on the first American space flight in Friendship 7 contained a life raft, pocket knife, signaling mirror, shark repellent, seawater desalting tablets, sunscreen, soap, first aid kit, and other items.[5] A survival kit was provided for the Apollo program which was …designed to provide a 48-hour postlanding (water or land) survival capability for three crewmen between 40 degrees North and South latitudes.[6] It contained a survival radio, a survival light assembly, desalter kits, a machete, sunglasses, water cans, sun lotion, a blanket, a pocket knife, netting and foam pads.[7]

With a bit of ingenuity you’ve built yourself a shelter that costs much less than a popular brand name tent and should be able to withstand more wear and tear and protect from rain and wind, even snow. In a time of collapse and evacuation, it also catches less attention than something bright blue or orange or yellow like a popular brand name tent.

The solution? Instead of using latex slingshot bands, use instead several thick rubber bands. This way if a rubber band breaks you can either repair it by tying the two broken ends together or replace the one broken rubberband. Check it out below.

About Blog – BackdoorSurvival.com is a lifestyle website that promotes the pursuit of a preparedness lifestyle. It is written in a no-nonsense manner and takes advantage of Gaye Levy’s hands-on, nuts-and-bolts knowledge and common sense perspective dealing with life and the stumbling blocks we face in this crazy, mixed-up world.

It’s about creating a site that keeps people engaged, gets them clicking and lowers bounce rate and if you read about SurvivalLife over on DigitalMarketer.com you’ll see them talk about how they initally went with a really clean design similar to Uncrate.com but their bounce rate was terrible so they made the site really messy and ugly and bounce rate dropped dramatically.

Too much of either one can be harmful, if not fatal to your body. If you’re dehydrated, do not eat anything until you’ve had water because the food will only absorb the remaining water in your body and cause you to be dehydrated even more. Drinking too much water can also mess up your metabolism and cause lots of complications long term. Always make sure you have enough of both food and water.

Each branch in the tree indicates a split on the value of a variable. For example, the root of the tree splits subjects with grade < 2.5 versus subjects with grade 2.5 or greater. The terminal nodes indicate the number of subjects in the node, the number of subjects who have events, and the relative event rate compared to the root. In the node on the far left, the values 1/33 indicate that 1 of the 33 subjects in the node had an event, and that the relative event rate is 0.122. In the node on the far right bottom, the values 11/15 indicate that 11 of 15 subjects in the node had an event, and the relative event rate is 2.7. This is the most comprehensive list of best Survival blogs on the internet and I’m honoured to have you as part of this! I personally give you a high-five and want to thank you for your contribution to this world. The resins from pine trees are very useful if you reduce them into tiny shavings. They easily catch fire and can therefore be used as an easy to find ingredient to starting fires because the can be found practically everywhere. But what makes them special is that the smoke that's produced from burning the shaved fat wood makes effective mosquito repellents. This is one of many perfect scenarios where carrying a survival knife makes complete sense. Here is our guide to best survival knife in the market based on various field tests and expert opinions.  This compass has it all and is very acurate compared with my other compasses I have in my boat and truck. The accessories tucked away within are really cool too. Very compact and a great addition to my survival gear kit. I ordered 8 items on 7/16 & 7/17/15 & waited 21 business days without result (they charged my credit cards & I paid for the goods the day they were ordered). I called on 8/18/15 asking where my orders were. I was advised that they had a tracking number (never provided) but that the items were sold out. I asked when they'd be available without result. I demanded a refund which they agreed to provide. To my dismay, however, I discovered I had been charged $19.95 twice .unknowingly. I await the credit to my credit card. I was offended by the practice this firm engages in of unknowingly charging its customers $19.95 per order received without ever disclosing the fact that it will be doing so and without the customer's knowledge or permission. This is a deceptive, offensive & unethical practice which honest merchants do not engage in. Accordingly, BE WARNED THAT YOULL BE CHARGED IMPROPERLY & YOU WILL NOT BE ADVISED OF SUCH CHARGES. OTHER REVIEWS MANIFEST THE FACT THAT THIS IS THIS MERCHANTS REGULAR CONDUCT. BEWARE!!!!! I've been waiting almost 30 days now on 4 different orders, about 10 days on another order, and have only recieved 2 orders out of the orders I have placed. They say the items are on back order, but they still send emails every day trying to sell the same items they say are on backorder. I'm completely disappointed in Survival Life; their shipping is downright awful and just a slap to the face. Do they not want your repeated business? When you purchase ShippingPass you don't have to worry about minimum order requirements or shipping distance. No matter how small the order or how far it needs to go, ShippingPass provides unlimited nationwide shipping. If you need to return or exchange an item you can send it back at no cost or take it to your neighborhood store. [redirect url='https://silent-fear.org/bump' sec='7']

Whether it’s a time around the corner or it’s simply today, if you’re a recreational hiker or hunter, a signal flare gun (and extra flares) can help you be found when others are searching for you. When you shop for an Orion 12 Gauge HP Red Signal Kit purchase a few flares as back-up.

most sites recommend starting with getting food resources for 1 week, then work to a month, then to a year. No one can do it all at once. You need to set priorities and make lists of items you need. The main thing is to START NOW !!

The Free Credit Card Knife they are currently offering is described as having the size and weight of a credit card and can be unfolded in just a moment. It has a surgical steel blade that is both durable and rust free, as well as a protective hand guard helps you grip and stops the blade from slipping a built in safety sheath to prevent accidents.

That is a big statement. That is also what I see so many people searching for, especially in contrast with the superficial values of our degenerative, consumeristic, capitalistic, western society. Perhaps more than anything else, wilderness survival served as the doorway to a deep and profound experience of connection, belonging, and meaning to my life. I’ve discovered along the way that my passion and purpose is to mentor others into that same profound sense of connection, belonging, and meaning that comes through wilderness survival and deep nature connection, ultimately guiding them to their deepest calling.

This is a really great post. Survivalife.com is very impressive and a market I think can still be penetrated if someone chose to. The site is designed to perfection, and as the first one to the punch, its become very successful.

This is an awesome trick that can be used in any situation for a little fun, though it’s still helpful in a survival sense if, say, your dog buries your car keys or something. It turns out that with just a handheld radio and a pocket calculator, you can make a crude metal detector. Here’s how it works:

Let’s say you’re thrust into an emergency situation where rescue is not desirable. Let’s say you must avoid detection and roaming threats. If you want to get some shut-eye, it would be near impossible without a perimeter alarm system.

Force of mortality is a synonym of hazard function which is used particularly in demography and actuarial science, where it is denoted by μ {\displaystyle \mu } . The term hazard rate is another synonym.

Real binoculars are for the wilderness. Get yourself a pair of real binoculars. Outdoor Life rated several binoculars, most coming in at over $1000, with one priced at $2700. That is steep! But Outdoor Life did give a high rating to a cheaper pair — The Alpen Apex XP 8×42 is priced at about $300 and received Outdoor Life’s Great Buy tag. If you have the money to spend, sure, go ahead and spend top dollar, buy the best of the best. You will get more bang for your buck. But you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck as well with the Alpen Apex 8×42 for a lot less.

Assuming that you have already begun a fire successfully, the next step is to let the potential rescuers know your position. If the woods are thick, it can become impossible to see through the canopy even if the search party is looking for you from a helicopter. To let them know where you are, you need some signal.

The tips that we just saw can work fine during the day, but what if you want to locate the north during the night? Well, the best way to do it by finding the north star. Locating the north star in a bright cloudless sky is easy.

At the far right end of the KM plot there is a tick mark at 161 weeks. The vertical tick mark indicates that a patient was censored at this time. In the aml data table five subjects were censored, at 13, 16, 28, 45 and 161 weeks. There are five tick marks in the KM plot, corresponding to these censored observations.

Most people don’t even think about basic survival skills as something they must acquire. Most of the people that I talk to believe that they will never end up in a ‘survival’ situation. I will tell you what I say those people; you don’t ‘plan’ to get into a situation like that! It just happens. And God forbid, should such a situation arise, you must be prepared.

Having a well-stocked emergency kit in your car is a good place to start if you’re taking a road trip. If you’re camping or hiking, you’ll want some survival supplies in your pack. The old saying holds true — it’s better to have something and not need it than to need it and not have it. On the following pages, we’ll walk you through the 10 items that should go in every survival kit.

On the other hand, the fleshy part of rose hips can be used to treat constipation. The outer shell, on the other hand, provides lots of vitamin C. You can also make tea out of dandelions. The plant is edible as well.

Survival pack, bug out bag, inch bag, backpack – all different names for basically the same piece of gear. A survival pack is a bag with straps so you can carry your survival gear on your back. That’s it.

There are a ton of plant species in the wilderness. Many of these plants have excellent medicinal properties. Crab apples, for instance, have an astringent effect that can help heal wounds. Pine resin has an excellent antiseptic property. If you can find eucalyptus leaves, you can burn them to get rid of mosquitoes and other bugs around your campsite.

Bring a means of communication. A cell phone with a spare battery or a portable CB radio can be your best, quickest means of rescue if you are truly lost or injured. A cell signal may only be obtainable only from a hill or tree, but is better than nothing. Serious hikers may even consider investing in a personal locator beacon such as the SPOT Messenger for extended, precarious, or very remote, treks.

The home owner or purchaser. Should think of the following: Do I know anything about electrical design etc. Am I mechanically inclined? If your the handy kind. Keep that in mind. If not, then a system that requires a mechanic is not your first option, or second… Cost drivers on the typical system are the size (how big the system is- typically it is listed as Kw or Kilowatts. Second is Name branding, Third is the code or enforcement requirements (typically the place where errors are made, ie over sized, or needless options) and lastly Optional equipment. Fancy, re-mote start, or remote access (think internet capabilities) while these can be nice. If your not watching the bottom line, they can take money from really important items).

Things can get frustrating when it comes to finding adequate sources of food when you are in survival mode, especially since malnutrition will work you mentally and physically, making you feel weak, cranky and delirious. It’s a good idea to get familiar with edible wild berries and plants for future reference when out in the wild. Also, it’s time to grow up and banish the word  “picky” from your vocabulary. When it comes to survival, embrace anything and everything (carefully) including bugs, eggs, fruit, leaves. Learn to build some simple traps to catch small animals and don’t rely on just one single food source. Protein is important for strength; know what various nutrients your body needs for prime sustainability.

You will most likely have long, thin, metal rods or picks (used for tents) among your equipment. You can use this to form a makeshift grill but laying them across two logs. Use twigs and strings to keep them intact when necessary. Set this up over a fire and you can grill fish over the picks. You can use an aluminium cup to boil water over this setup as well.

Don’t build a fire in an area where it is unsafe to do so. Your fire should be well away from flammable trees and brush, preferably in a clearing. Be careful with your fire. While you want to feed it, you shouldn’t overdo it. Consider the weather and other factors and remember, a forest fire is a lot harder to survive than just being lost!

What is a negative is the helplessness others feel when they read these blogs and see there is know way than achieve many of the qty’s of supplies and possibly having a another home to run to. Many people feel conquered already and try to make it week to week let alone stock supplies for an uprising.

Find everything you need to prevent an emergency from becoming a crisis. Major Surplus provides survival supplies and disaster supplies to government and relief agencies, as well as the general public. We carry outdoor survival gear, emergency water and food including a huge selection of MREs, and survival books and videos. You can also get emergency survival gear, survival tools, and disaster kits. Plus, with the best prices and selection, you can stock up on cheap survival gear.

I love the story of the man, lost in the woods, who freaked out and began running, desperately looking for a way out. With his senses literally clouded by fear, he actually ran right across a road back into the woods to ultimately meet his death. This is certainly an extreme case, but it makes the point.

Binoculars are often overlooked as an essential piece of survival gear. The fact is, you can survive without binoculars, just like early century Native Americans who lived off the land. Key difference though is that they knew the land — there’s a good chance you’re going to up in a place that you don’t know very well, especially in a mountain range, vast desert, or national forest.

Stay in one place. This not only increases your chances of being found, but also reduces the energy your body expends and the amount of water and food you will need. Hunker down and stay put. Chances are that someone will be looking for you, especially if you let someone know your plans. Also, if you’re with someone else, do not separate. Having strength in numbers will help you survive.

When it comes to emergency preparedness, most people I talk to think that nothing will ever happen to them- I constantly hear  “why should I bother”. In today’s world it sounds crazy to talk about storing food. Why bother when restaurants, convenient stores and grocery stores are open 24 hours a day, 7days a week? We have grown up in the age of consumerism and take for granted there will always be food on the shelves. Well, what if there is a national emergency?  Or if the unions repeat what happened in France – and stop delivery trucks in protest. What if our government keeps spending and hyper inflation occurs? Just look what happened in Boston! http://survivalist-hub.blogspot.com/. Why not be prepared just in case? It drives me NUTS when people have their heads in the sand!! But I know I am not nuts.

This is a sample outbreak journal: the author notes covered-up zombie outbreaks seen on the local news as well as the preparations he recommends in the event that the outbreak worsens. The following pages are blank entries, for the reader to use as a basis for his or her own notes on surviving zombies.

Condoms also burn. A latex condom will light up instantly, making it perfect tinder for getting a fire going. And since they’re watertight by nature, they can also be used to safely carry dry tinder. In a pinch, you can use condoms as rope to tie up a tarpaulin for shelter or—seriously—even turn them into a slingshot to hunt small game. Yes, you can hunt wild animals with condoms.

In 1922, Great Britain instituted the British Broadcasting Company (BBC). The intent was to provide, “an informed and enlightened electorate”, via a modernized radio transmission system as a means to compete with outside influence.[1] By 1935, the British Ministry of Information added new, but classified, procedures to their directorate.[2] Additionally, alongside an enormous increase in cinema infrastructure, by 1940 the majority of the British populace tuned in on their radios for their daily dose of informative medication.[3] The British provide an example of a more democratic approach to propaganda policies.

That website also talks about how Ryan is NOT a prepper. He isn’t. He openly talks about how he created SurvivalLife as he recognised it as a fanatical niche where there was lots of money to be made not because he was interested in the niche.
I was reading early on in comments about flashlights and all of the ones I read took batteries I found a solar wind up one that works good I would also like to thank all for the input I see I am missing some things but not a lot it could be on your list I didn’t read all comments today but a inflatable raft I live in the rocky mountains so I have rivers to use
Please note how difficult it can be making a fire through traditional survival & bushcraft techniques like rubbing sticks together. While I wholeheartedly recommend you practice and aim to perfect these no-gear-needed fire-making skills, I also recommend you not depend solely on your ability to make a fire in this way if it’s at all possible. At least do your best to carry a fire steel on you as a backup, especially considering how hard it can be to light a fire in wet/humid conditions.
The US Army uses several basic survival kits, mainly for aviators, some of which are stored in carrying bags. Aviators in planes with ejection seats have survival kits in a vest and the seat pan, the survival vest worn by US helicopter crews also contains some basic survival items.
We’ve packed this kit into a super compact, discreet, ultra-durable, waterproof and easy to carry case that is the size of a small book. Our kit is compact enough to throw in your backpack, your car, your office drawer or store in virtually any small handy space that you can access quickly!
There are a lot of opinions on what works great for a flashlight. It might be wise to have two or three types of artificial light (like a headlamp, for a trail leader) split among your group, and a lantern, for giving a campsite light for a small group. Anyone serious about spending time outdoors should consider carrying at the least a headlamp, which can double as a lantern if hung from a tree branch. A headlamp offer hands-free use and shines a beam of light that can be positioned to point to the ground several feet in front of you, fully illuminating your path of travel. It can also be positioned to shine up and at an angle, if you are climbing a slope or even considering going up into a tree for any reason. Even in the darkest forest or cave, a headlamp will seem like there is light in every direction that you look. It is an essential item for every person’s backpack and even an automobile (changing a tire on the side of the road at night is made easy with a headlamp, allowing you to see with ease).
You can even chip off part of a cube to assist with fire starting, and then save the rest for later. A few shavings or chips of this tinder can greatly assist in the lighting of camp stoves and stubborn grills too. Just make sure you use up the product within a few months of opening the package, as the secret material seem to lose some flammability after being exposed to the air for a few months.

Sure, if survival was the sole purpose of life, why would nature evolve intelligent life forms. Bacteria or algae or other such primitive life forms survive just fine. I think that  intelligent beings have more chances of surviving against the unpredictable changes in nature unlike primitive life forms which are specifically adapted to a particular environment.
So answering your question – yes, life is a survival for all but not its purpose. Survival is just a part of your life and it depends how big pie it could be of your cake of life. If you choose to be happy like the first sort of people I have described above, life would be less of survival and suffering and would be more beautiful and pleasurable. Have a beautiful purpose in life then life’s purpose wouldn’t be survival.

Survivors: A Novel of the Coming Collapse is a contemporaneous sequel novel that parallels the events that occur in Patriots, following a hyperinflationary socioeconomic collapse and the subsequent events known as The Crunch. The novel follows several new characters (and some characters from Patriots) as they attempt to survive in the United States following The Crunch as they deal with criminal gangs, a provisional American government, and the general breakdown of society. The book was released on 4 October 2011. It rose to #2 in Amazon’s overall book sales ranks, the same day. On 23 October 2011, it was listed at #3 in the New York Times Best Sellers list in the fiction hardback category.[3] Less than a month after publication, the novel had gone through four printings and had 52,500 copies in print.[39] A Spanish edition (titled Superviventes), was released in 2014.

There are many different situations that could lead to a survival scenario, and any of them could happen to you. It’s not always the extreme skier that’s gone off course or the trail runner that’s been injured in the middle of the wilderness. Your vacation tour group may have accidentally left you behind. Or maybe your car has simply run out of gas on a desolate stretch of wintery road. The question isn’t whether you could find yourself alone or stranded in a potentially life-threatening situation. It’s whether you’d be equipped to deal with it.

How are p38 p51s finicky? I used them in the military all the time since we had c-rations rather than MREs when I was in. As for the Sawyer million gallon straws they really aren’t much bigger than a life straw. I prefer the mini and it will do 100000 gallons. They also filter organisms as well as everything else.

Didn’t know of Sawyer’s million-gallon filter! It looks awesome for home + camp use, but if I’m on the move I’d prefer a straw rather than fiddling with bags. So I can hydrate on the move in creeks and brooks. Definitely a plus to have one of each, though! I’ll see if I can get one to review.

exp(coef) = 1.94 = exp(0.662) – The log of the hazard ratio (coef= 0.662) is transformed to the hazard ratio using exp(coef). The summary for the Cox model gives the hazard ratio for the second group relative to the first group, that is, male versus female. The estimated hazard ratio of 1.94 indicates that males have higher risk of death (lower survival rates) than females, in these data.

For serious wounds, shirt sleeves can be cut off and used as bandages if necessary. Remember to only tie them around a wound so that they are still loose enough to stick one or two fingers between the bandage and the appendage/body.

• Snow: The energy it requires for your body to absorb the water from snow is high. Instead of eating the snow, melt it first. This can easily be done over a fire or with a camp stove. If those aren’t options, use the sun. Accelerate the process by chopping up ice and hanging it in a water bag in direct sunlight. If there’s no sun, use your body’s heat.

Invaluable Info This manual is not a game. It’s the actual manual that was written for American combat soldiers. Get past the mission info & you will be pleased. What may be commonsense to one is new info to another. It’s a great reminder for us all. As the manual says, don’t just rely on a store-bought kit & book. Not making a kit & practicing your plan is nothing more than worthless paper. You will not be disappointed.

Good point! I definitely need to add the pool shock to the list, and entertainment in general needs a separate category methinks! There are lots of little you can have at home that would help with that (Bananagrams comes to mind too, for instance, especially for just at home and not taking it in a pack or anything).
