Want to get a fire started fast after falling in a river? An Orion hand held flare will burn for approximately 30 minutes, even in the wind and rain. Pop the flare and arrange sticks, bark, and branches (even if they’re damp) over the top. At 30 minutes of burn time, that is plenty of time to ignite a pile of damp tinder and kindling.

We live in the modern age though — in many ways we have an advantage. Most people need those advantages because going from a wired world to the wilderness comes with a learning curve — one that can kill you if you’re not prepared.
I didn’t see this invaluable item item on the list or in any comments thereafter so I’ll request a good ol’ 5ft x 7ft wool blanket. I’ve used mine to sit on around the camp fire and keep myself off the warmth sapping ground. Also great for keeping warm by the fire just wrapped up in. It won’t burn from sparks either which makes it invaluable for wrapping around your (probably lite weight and highly combustable) sleeping bag. Sheds moisture alright to keep any goose down bags from losing insulation. This is under the assumption that you are sleeping outdoors under nothing more than a tarp shelter until a proper basecamp and shelter can be established. Once a shelter is established (if you dont have / bring / or burned down your tent) the wool blanket also makes for a kickass door.
Survival Power: A military Goretex sleeping bag system can do a good job at keeping you warm — but only to negative 10 degrees Fahrenheit — you’ll have to wear additional layers and craft additional insulation if temperatures drop below negative 10.

Lifeboat survival kits are stowed in inflatable or rigid lifeboats or life rafts; the contents of these kits are mandated by coast guard or maritime regulations. These kits provide basic survival tools and supplies to enable passengers to survive until they are rescued. In addition to relying on lifeboat survival kits, many mariners will assemble a “ditch bag” or “abandon ship bag” containing additional survival supplies. Lifeboat survival kit items typically include:

Photo by purolipanFor flexibility, a good multi-tool is a camper’s best friend, and there are hundreds of models on the market. When comparing the need for different functions and the tool’s weight, it becomes apparent that simpler is better. Look for a multi-tool that has a regular and serrated blade, pliers with a wire cutter, carbide knife sharpener, bottle and can opener, and a lanyard loop. Pay close attention to the materials and quality; look for titanium handles, 154CM steel blades, and 420 stainless steel construction. If you plan on carrying a small hatchet for cutting firewood, consider a multi-tool hatchet and take one tool instead of two.

They just did the same thing to me. Charged me $39.95 for a membership I did not agree to. It is bull when she says they give you a notice about this. Never got one never agreed to one and do not want one. Have bought several items from them but will no longer purchase anything from them ever again

I don’t know if this has been shared or not, but Penicillin and Amoxicillin should be included in the list of medicines, along with cephalosporin (Keflex). All of these I believe can still be found over the counter as farming supplies. Be careful, however, as the dosage for humans will be majorly different than that on the label. I would suggest getting a dosage chart for each antibiotic.

Not only does this kit assemble into a shovel – perhaps the most basic of all survival tools – the handle itself is a multi-tool, disassembling into components that include a knife, a fire starter, a saw, a screwdriver, and on and on it goes. The adjustable shovel blade itself includes a ruler and a can/bottle opener, and one side of it is designed to be used as a knife edge. This shovel is a goddamn badass.

In survival and SHTF situations, you’ll want to make sure to defend yourself and your family against both other people and animals. There are a variety of ways which you can do this, although of course some work better than others. Certainly look into attaining a firearm if this is legally permissible in your locality, and if you ever consider you may like to have it as a backup option. If you are interested in firearms, make sure to learn about them and train with them prior to an emergency situation. You can’t expect to be good with a firearm your first time shooting.

There are a lot of portable water filters on the market. A popular brand can do a good job filtering water and withstand long term use, but they can be both clunky and expensive, well over $100, with several parts that need to be fitted together.

Request a security blanket. According to
Mark Burhenne, DDS, wearing a weighted blanket like the ones used during X-rays can make you
feel safer in the chair. It pairs nicely with a therapy dog—a cuddly service that more and more practices are offering.

Surprisingly she became ‘a guide’ for me because she showed me how I didn’t want to be – a cold and unkind human being. I was grateful to her for this and even found some compassion and understanding for her.

Tips: You can increase the likely hood of a trap catching an animal by arranging logs, brush and large rocks to narrow a path that leads straight into each trap you set — from both directions in fact. Squirrels and rabbits and other small mammals can be funneled into any trap that’s been set.

I bought this for my kids 72 hr emergency kit. She is 11 and needs tools that are easy and organized. We went over all the features, how to use the knife, read the booklet inside and everything else. A pocket-knife is cool, but as my man Crocodile Dundee once said, now this is a knife. And it’s a knife vouched for by our other boy, Bear Grylls. Look, I shouldn’t have to explain the appeal of a knife, not to mention the need for one. Anytime you can call a tool a weapon and vice-versa, you’ve got yourself something worth carrying.

Hand sanitizers may look like they’re only useful for cleaning your hands, but they’re also good for starting fires. This is because they contain alcohol, which is flammable. Simply use some of the stuff on a char cloth or some leaves or other tinder and they’ll easily catch fire from a spark. So always keep a small bottle in your pocket.

We generally encounter right-censored data. Left-censored data can occur when a person’s survival time becomes incomplete on the left side of the follow-up period for the person. For example, in an epidemiological example, we may monitor a patient for an infectious disorder starting from the time when he or she is tested positive for the infection. Although we may know the right-hand side of the duration of interest, we may never know the exact time of exposure to the infectious agent.[5]

In that time, I ordered some of the items they had to offer. I was disappointed that their stated 15 to 21 business days to deliver a purchased item was standard for them. It got a little better over time, but never got below 15 days.

All signs point toward an upcoming large-scale Israeli/U.S. attack on Lebanon and Syria and all the sycophantic mainstream media are manipulating the public as we speak to gather support for a “war to end all wars.”

Hold your watch horizontally and point it so that the hour hand is facing into the sun. At the center point between the 12 and the hour hand is your north/south line, with north facing away from the sun. So if the hour hand is pointing at 4, for example, the 2 would point towards the south and the 8 would point towards the north.

For shelter, you may use sticks and really wide and big leaves to build a foundation of a shelter. Also you can use a big blanket or tarpaulin to put around the sticks and leaves. For safe food in the woods you can eat, blackberries, dandelions, asparagus, elderberries, gooseberries, mulberries, pecans, hazelnuts, walnuts, acorns, hickory nuts, clovers, red clovers and many more. See further How to find Wild Edible Plants for more details.

If you have two mirrors, you can use the reflection from one mirror as a light source and reflect it from the second mirror. This enables you to signal north even if there is no sun present there to reflect light.

Don’t bother using an axe. Just place the wood pieces diagonally between the ground and a tree. Give the pieces of wood a good kick (inspect the wood before doing this and assess the right balance between force and strength to avoid breaking ankle/leg).

Once the system gets broken the entire functionality is lost. Humans are humans, no matter where you are. There is a lot of thugs that are tied only by very thin ropes of fear. Once the system gets those ties loose in some way…then you have a problem, as a citizen. A very big one.

• Advanced: A battery can be used to create a spark to light tinder. Use your vehicle battery (removed from vehicle or boat) by attaching wires or steel wool to connect the positive and negative posts. This will induce a spark or ignite the wool. With smaller batteries, align two batteries together, positive to negative. Use strands of steel wool to connect the posts to create a spark and ignite wool. A 9-volt battery works great.

An alternative to building a single survival tree is to build many survival trees, where each tree is constructed using a sample of the data, and average the trees to predict survival. This is the method underlying the survival random forest models. Survival random forest analysis is available in the R package randomForestSRC.

Coal fungus and horse hoof fungus have both very flammable properties. Break the fungus in half and you’ll reveal their flammable parts right in the core. They easily catch sparks. Most of these fungi are usually found in dead trees, which means you’ve got a good source of dry material there as well. What makes fungi particularly unique as tinder is that they smoulder – all you have to do is to blow into the ember to make the fire grow. Because of this, they make portable firelighters as well.

Now, before you say duh, hear me out! It can be difficult to find dry wood if it has been raining for a while. However, you can look for pieces of sticks that are under thick trees, there a good chance that you may find some dry place there.

Crab apples, for instance, have healing properties in their raw form. They possess astringents that can be rubbed across cuts and lacerations, causing the wounds to tighten and heal faster. Pine resin, on the other hand, are great antiseptics. They can be used topically on wounds or gargled to clean the mouth. They’re usually found in solidified form within the tree, but you have to melt them first before using. If found fresh and still gooey, you can apply the substance immediately.

Survival is your first priority, but don’t forget- you need to get rescued as well. Come up with an action plan in case a plane flies overhead or there are are search parties nearby. You’ve seen it in the movies – prepare a giant, easily visible fire pit out in the open or lay out stones in the pattern of HELP or S.O.S. You can also use any shiny, metallic object for reflection purposes.

• Double half hitch: Used to attach one end of a rope around an object. This is a useful knot for building a shelter. Tie a half hitch around your object, like a tree or pole, and follow it by a second in the same direction to make it a double. Pull tight to make secure.

It doesn’t need to be a large, heavy knife in order to be important for survival. In order for it to be used in emergency situations, you must have it with you. Therefore, a survival knife is the knife in which you will carry most often. Some survival knives have a hollow handle which is filled with a waterproof survival kit with such necessities as waterproof matches and a compass.

The most overwhelming side of being a creative (for me) is how to be realistic, professional, and run a business. Hearing and seeing the tools required to be successful is a huge weight of my shoulders. I would say that Survival Guide took away the unknown aspects of running a creative business that often paralyzed my growth. It has made me excited again to be an artist, and one that could make money and be happy.

But what if the times turn? What if you find yourself in a challenging away from all your friends, gadgets and thingamajigs? What if you can’t just buy your way out? And what if your life depends on getting out of that bind? Do you think you have the skills, the know-how, the presence of mind to handle a situation like that?

Survivors: A Novel of the Coming Collapse is a contemporaneous sequel novel that parallels the events that occur in Patriots, following a hyperinflationary socioeconomic collapse and the subsequent events known as The Crunch. The novel follows several new characters (and some characters from Patriots) as they attempt to survive in the United States following The Crunch as they deal with criminal gangs, a provisional American government, and the general breakdown of society. The book was released on 4 October 2011. It rose to #2 in Amazon’s overall book sales ranks, the same day. On 23 October 2011, it was listed at #3 in the New York Times Best Sellers list in the fiction hardback category.[3] Less than a month after publication, the novel had gone through four printings and had 52,500 copies in print.[39] A Spanish edition (titled Superviventes), was released in 2014.

This one hits the spot for family gatherings or even gathering around to watch movies or sports events on television. It’s a little heartier and tastier than the basic recipe. Another variation we sometimes make is to substitute a can of meat/beef chili for the sausage and salsa/milk. However, we prefer this version best.

Survival Guide provides a solid grounding in the business of photography – including branding, marketing, and the dirty little secret in photography – pricing. But it’s also a workshop that doesn’t neglect the creative aspect of photography. Instead, it encourages you to think of yourself in new ways as a working photographer. It encourages you to refine your vision, both in how you make photographs, and how you market them.

The workshop was more than just enlightening; it actually put us in charge of own success, and aligned us with others who are doing the same thing. I absolutely feel that I (and any one of us) could easily shoot for a huge client. The exercises in the workshop gave me the confidence, power, and intimate knowledge to know how to be a high-level pro. Not just the craft behind the shots which I’ve already been doing for more than a decade, but the whole business end of things, that can seem overly daunting to a creative type. But sorting this stuff out properly allows you to enjoy the creativity that comes from the gigs, focus on landing them, and provide direction for your energies.

Hello! I would just like to add that I think that radiation pills, or Potassium Iodide pills, should be included on the list for prepping, and planning, just in case we go into a nuclear war. Snaring can be an excellent way to trap small animals while you are away building your shelter. However, it is important to know where to set up the traps. You can set the traps in places where you can see the animals running around. You can also hear small rodents and squirrels. It is even better if you are near a water body.

For serious wounds, shirt sleeves can be cut off and used as bandages if necessary. Remember to only tie them around a wound so that they are still loose enough to stick one or two fingers between the bandage and the appendage/body.

Pick up a can and spray everything. Your rain fly, your tent, your tent’s seams, your tent bag. Getting in thunderstorms can easily put a damper on an otherwise great weekend, but it doesn’t have to.

This gift is one that my husband has purchased for co-workers or others on several occasions, and it is always appreciated. The knife really is sharp.. It is super convenient to be able to pull out a knife from your wallet whenever you need. We’ve used it while hiking, organizing the garage, opening packages, and a variety of other activities. The knife fits in your wallet as is the size of a credit card. It isn’t bulky. My husband has owned his for two years and still finds it sharp and useful. I am sure we will give this gift again in the future.

If you rub an ice cube on the spot between your thumb and index finger, it sends cold signals to your brain, which in turn can tamp down the pain signals coming from your tooth. When it comes to emergency preparedness, most people I talk to think that nothing will ever happen to them- I constantly hear  “why should I bother”. In today’s world it sounds crazy to talk about storing food. Why bother when restaurants, convenient stores and grocery stores are open 24 hours a day, 7days a week? We have grown up in the age of consumerism and take for granted there will always be food on the shelves. Well, what if there is a national emergency?  Or if the unions repeat what happened in France – and stop delivery trucks in protest. What if our government keeps spending and hyper inflation occurs? Just look what happened in Boston! http://survivalist-hub.blogspot.com/. Why not be prepared just in case? It drives me NUTS when people have their heads in the sand!! But I know I am not nuts.

If you’re struggling with the whole authority versus niche thing, this post on EmpireFlippers examines both and their pro’s and con’s and there’s a good video from Jill and Josh of ScrewTheNineToFive worth watching.

Just remember, this only works in the Northern Hemisphere; and during Daylight Savings Time you would use the 1 instead of the 12 to determine the center line. If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, orient the 12 directly towards the sun, and the north/south line will still cut directly between the 12 and the hour hand, but north will be closest to the sun.

Imagine the ground under you is moving and you’re in the middle of an earthquake. It’s pretty scary, isn’t it? Unfortunately, it’s not exactly possible to predict earthquakes, though they can be anticipated. The natural disasters mainly occur near edges of tectonic plates (hello, California); however, they can occur anywhere. Learning what to do in the event of a major earthquake is an essential survival skill to have, and one that allows you to walk away wi… Continue Reading →

To trim a survival kit down to its top 10 essentials is to reveal the utmost necessary items for ad hoc shelter, warmth, communication, navigation, and sustenance in the deep backwoods. Here, then, are three survivalists’ lean lists of gear you should not be without in any wilderness situation.

where t is some time, T is a random variable denoting the time of death, and Pr stands for probability. That is, the survival function is the probability that the time of death is later than some specified time t. The survival function is also called the survivor function or survivorship function in problems of biological survival, and the reliability function in mechanical survival problems. In the latter case, the reliability function is denoted R(t).

Fire: You want a fire when it’s cold and raining or you’ve just had to wade across a river or through flood waters and now you’re soaked and in danger of hypothermia. We recommend survival gear that can produce a rolling fire in no time and with little work.

Survivors: A of the Coming Collapse is a contemporaneous sequel novel that parallels the events that occur in Patriots, following a hyperinflationary socioeconomic collapse and the subsequent events known as The Crunch.

If you are fishing for food in the wild, you can catch more fish if you cast your bait while facing into the wind. It is a known fact that 99% fish swim toward the wind. Fishing into the wind will allow you to cast a bait in front of the fish rather than behind.

The power has gone out in your home, meaning the food in your fridge and freezer might be subject to spoilage. We all experience hardships. Some people get through them with greater ease than others because of their attitude and choices. Their mindset propels them forward. They don’t let suffering run their lives and they work through the hard times, even when everything is falling down around them and they can’t seem to get a break.

As a wilderness survival guide, I often am called upon to differentiate wilderness survival from primitive living. Often times these two are lumped together as one, but in fact they are distinct. Wilderness survival refers to the actual experience of survival in the wilderness, which may or may not be a primitive experience depending on the gear you have access to. Wilderness survival is usually a short term experience. Primitive Living is usually a long term experience, and refers to the experience of living in a primitive setting, practicing primitive skills for an extended period of time.

The Free Credit Card Knife they are currently offering is described as having the size and weight of a credit card and can be unfolded in just a moment. The age at which a specified proportion of survivors remain can be found by solving the equation S(t) = q for t, where q is the quantile in question. Typically one is interested in the median lifetime, for which q = 1/2, or other quantiles such as q = 0.90 or q = 0.99.

This example of a survival tree analysis uses the R package rpart. The example is based on 146 stage C cancer patients in the data set stagec in rpart. Multi-tools are nice, but sometimes a single dedicated tool can be necessary, especially for harder jobs. This survival hatchet by our boy Bear Grylls is just such a tool. Whether you’re chopping trees to build yourself a shelter or just need something to fight off whatever monsters live in the woods, this will save your life.

What if you don’t happen to carry flint and steel set with you? Well, you can use the power of the sun to start a fire. All you need to do is put some water in a clear plastic bag and tie it like a balloon, as spherical as possible. When you hold this bag against the sun, you will see the familiar converging of the sun rays on the ground.

• My next tip maybe common sense to some, but figured it’s still worth noting: for better maintenance of keeping balance, it’s best to keep heavier things on top and the lighter items at the bottom. What this will do is help you with stability while you are on the move.

Probably even if you had the budget, which I def. don’t. I merely have enough to get a site up and buy that WSO but if that’s a waste then I’m scared.

It does what it’s supposed to…no more and no less. It’s an emergency knife that can be carried discreetly in your wallet until you need it. It’s not heavy-duty and not as easy as a regular pocket knife, but it’ll do well enough in a pinch.

Ditto for New Year’s Day, and those 55,000-plus on Jan. 1 deserve an extra measure of credit for their commitment to a game that was meaningless in the standings. Pre-production began at Cinecittà Studios around October 1957.[16] The MGM Art Department produced more than 15,000 sketches and drawings of costumes, sets, props, and other items needed for the film (8,000 alone for the costumes); photostatted each item; and cross-referenced and catalogued them for use by the production design team and fabricators.[82] More than a million props were ultimately manufactured.[83] Construction of miniatures for the entrance of Quintus Arrius into Rome and for the sea battle were under way by the end of November 1957.[84] MGM location scouts arrived in Rome to identify shooting locations in August 1957.[85] Location shooting in Africa was actively under consideration, and in mid-January 1958, MGM said that filming in North Africa (later revealed to be Libya) would begin on March 1, 1958, and that 200 camels and 2,500 horses had already been procured for the studio’s use there.[86] The production was then scheduled to move to Rome on April 1, where Andrew Marton had been hired as second unit director and 72 horses were being trained for the chariot race sequence.[86] However, the Libyan government canceled the production’s film permit for religious reasons on March 11, 1958, just a week before filming was to have begun.[l][87][88] It is unclear whether any second unit filming took place in Israel. A June 8, 1958, report in The New York Times said second unit director Andrew Martin had roamed “up and down the countryside” filming footage.[89] However, the American Film Institute claims the filming permit was revoked in Israel for religious reasons as well (although when is not clear), and no footage from the planned location shooting near Jerusalem appeared in the film.[84]
Ben-Hur received overwhelmingly positive reviews upon its release.[150] Bosley Crowther, writing for The New York Times, called Ben-Hur “a remarkably intelligent and engrossing human drama”.[151] While praising the acting and William Wyler’s “close-to” direction, he also had high praise for the chariot race: “There has seldom been anything in movies to compare with this picture’s chariot race. It is a stunning complex of mighty setting, thrilling action by horses and men, panoramic observation and overwhelming use of dramatic sound.”[151] Gaver, writing for United Press International, also had praise for the acting, calling it full of “genuine warmth and fervor and finely acted intimate scenes”.[152] Philip K. Scheuer of the Los Angeles Times called it “magnificent, inspiring, awesome, enthralling, and all the other adjectives you have been reading about it.”[153] He also called the editing “generally expert” although at times abrupt.[153] Ronald Holloway, writing for Variety, called Ben-Hur “a majestic achievement, representing a superb blending of the motion picture arts by master craftsmen,” and concluded that “Gone With the Wind, Metro’s own champion all-time top grosser, will eventually have to take a back seat.”[154] The chariot race “will probably be preserved in film archives as the finest example of the use of the motion picture camera to record an action sequence. The race, directed by Andrew Marton and Yakima Canutt, represents some 40 minutes of the most hair-raising excitement that film audiences have ever witnessed.”[154]

A properly packed backpack is requisite to your comfort and safety. Incorrect weight distribution leads to muscle aches and unnecessary strain on your spine. Place heavy items – water, food, and cooking gear – in the middle of your pack, close to your body. Use medium weight items – clothing, tarps, and rain gear – to cushion the heavier items, securing them, so the weight does not shift while you are hiking. Pack your sleeping bag in the bottom of your backpack or tie to the bottom. Store items that you are likely to need more frequently in the side and outer pockets – compass and map, sunglasses, toilet tissue and trowel, sunscreen, bug repellent, pocketknife, flashlight, snacks, and a small towel.

In the real world, economic collapse won’t necessarily present itself overnight, and for those who don’t want to live in the woods, being able to transfer large sums of wealth from one country to another is a perfectly viable option. Obviously, for bartering, silver, alcohol, cigarettes, toilet paper, etc. are better options. Gold should just be viewed as a sort of insurance policy for monetary collapse, not for teotwawki.

A lot of people expect me carry a huge, Rambo-reminiscent survival knife, but in all truth, I’d rather be carrying a wood carving knife. If you take the legendary Mora blade and add a quality spark rod handle insert from Light My Fire, you have the Swedish FireKnife.

One of the best sites out there related to wilderness survival skills, and number 7 in our list, is Ron Fontaine’s Survival Topics. Instead of just regurgitating things found in survival books, Ron follows a very similar approach that I do in that he practices and talks about things that he tries/uses/experiments with personally.

You certainly couldn’t accuse him of living life in half-measures anyway, but whether he’s being badass, ingenious or just disgustingly logical, he certainly knows how to get the job done. There are a ton of plant species in the wilderness. Many of these plants have excellent medicinal properties. Crab apples, for instance, have an astringent effect that can help heal wounds. Pine resin has an excellent antiseptic property. If you can find eucalyptus leaves, you can burn them to get rid of mosquitoes and other bugs around your campsite.

In a situation where there is a moderate to severe societal collapse, such as extensive civil unrest or major natural disaster (Katrina situation maybe?), and you have to scavenge for supplies, possibly with lesser regard to law; look at the billboards! When the sun hits the tarp, the air trapped inside the hole heats up, which in turn evaporates the moisture in the dirt. As that moisture rises, it will condense on the underside of the tarp and run down to the center—the lowest point. In the histograms, the thickness values don’t look normally distributed. Regression models, including the Cox model, generally give more reliable results with normally-distributed variables. For this example use a log transform. The log of the thickness of the tumor looks to be more normally distributed, so the Cox models will use log thickness. The Cox PH analysis gives the results in the box.

blvdone/ShutterstockWhen a huge crowd hits a tight choke point, a scary thing happens: The crowd starts moving like a fluid, each person forced forward by the people behind, regardless of whether there’s anywhere to move. This occurred last September when a group of more than a million pilgrims reached a narrow street intersection in Mecca. Trapped between the
force of people behind them and
the wall of people in front of them, some 2,200 died from compressive asphyxiation, the air literally crushed from their lungs. It’s a terrible fate but one you can avoid. Here’s how.

Let’s get started with the essentials. Mykel Hawke, a retired U.S. Army Special Forces captain and survivalist, author of “Hawke’s Special Forces Survival Handbook” shares tips from real-life combat and other dire situations which could save your life.

I bought this knife just because I was placing an order for some other items with BUDK and figured another $3, can’t go wrong. Well, it turned out to be one of my favorite knives. It came razor sharp out of the box. The sheath is worth more than $3 alone. The blade fits very nicely in the sheath. I have seen similar products to this one for many times the cost. But, there is no need to spend more than $3. This knife is perfect for hiking, backpacking etc. I have had this knife for 3 years, and have been very rough on it just because I know I can replace it for $3 if I need to. But, I haven’t done any damage to the knife or the sheath during all of the heavy usage. With this knife you have only $3 to loose and solid utility/survival knife to gain. Just buy one.

Over the past several years, the Remington group, or the group that owns Remington, haven’t had a very good track record with new firearms. As a matter of fact, it has been one failure after another, in my humble opinion. We had the Remington REM380, and it had a lot of problems. Then, there was the R51, and I’m not totally convinced they have worked out all the bugs in this one just yet. And Remington took over manufacturing Bushmaster AR-15 style rifles. I had an early Remington “Bushmaster”, and it wouldn’t group at 25 yards; it patterned like a shotgun, no matter what ammo was used. Then the grand ol’ 1911, that was one Remington used to make during WW2. The early, new model guns were a failure. They would shoot loose inside of a couple hundred rounds. I kid you not.

If you’re not already on “team headlamp,” let’s get one thing straight. The headlamp is to an outdoors person as the internet is to shopping. Once you’ve seen firsthand just how easy and effective it is, you’ll wonder how you ever got along without it. Headlamps give you light right where your gaze falls, and they leave both hands free to work. Olympia’s Explorer (EX) Series of headlamps has been designed with outdoor junkies in mind: This series gives us lamps with great features that don’t cost a fortune. This tough aluminum body headlamp casts out a scorching 550 lumens, and it’s perfect for chasing down a blood trail after dark, cooking in camp, or working under the hood of your truck. The Cree XM-L LED bulb delivers a beam of light that can reach out 135 meters, and it has five lighting modes, including a distress strobe. It’s even waterproof down to one meter.

Once you’ve begun to stockpile survival gear, it can be hard to determine what you’re missing from your list. As a result, we’ve taken the time to create as much of a comprehensive list of all the different types of gear as possible.

The second day will focus on understanding the commercial industry, how it is changing, and how you fit into it. We want you to think critically about your style, and identify what makes your art undeniably you, so that you stand out amongst the throngs of other artists in this industry. And we will discuss real world numbers for how to bid on those projects that come your way. Some of the finer details will be:

It’s about creating a site that keeps people engaged, gets them clicking and lowers bounce rate and if you read about SurvivalLife over on DigitalMarketer.com you’ll see them talk about how they initally went with a really clean design similar to Uncrate.com but their bounce rate was terrible so they made the site really messy and ugly and bounce rate dropped dramatically.

Radio transceiver, standard VHF marine when operating near inland shore, 121.5 MHz AM VHF guard channel capable aircraft band transceiver to contact rescuers and high overflying commercial and military aircraft visible by contrails, an optional amateur radio if a licensed radio amateur, (see Ham Radio) or an AM/FM/Weather/Shortwave radio receiver to receive precise time for celestial navigation as well as weather information

Tsunami Bomb happened at a time when a lot of punk was happening, vocalist Emily Agent M Whitehurst, recalled in 2015 , but the number of female vocalists in that genre was pretty small. [We] just kind of stood apart. In retrospect, the Bay Area band’s gender makeup remains an anomaly in the g…

See it through your kids’ eyes. In 2014, actress Gwyneth Paltrow popularized conscious uncoupling as a byword for a positive, amicable divorce. As doctors Habib Sadeghi and Sherry Sami subsequently wrote on Paltrow’s website, “Children are imitators by nature … If we are to raise a more civilized generation, we must model those behaviors during the good and bad times in our relationships.”

The best thing about this tool is that you can just keep it in your wallet. That’s because it’s the size of a credit card, and yet it contains 22 metal survival tools, everything from fish hooks to snare locks. Just slide it in your wallet and be prepared wherever you go.

20-30 feet high up in the trees would be a bad time for a hammock to experience equipment failure or for a knot or strap to come loose. Use your heavy duty sewing awl (see above), thread, and a second rope to incorporate additional support and a second knot system (on each end where the hammock is tied to a tree).

They just did the same thing to me. Charged me $39.95 for a membership I did not agree to. It is bull when she says they give you a notice about this. Never got one never agreed to one and do not want one. Have bought several items from them but will no longer purchase anything from them ever again

The workshop met my expectations because I needed help with every step that we covered. John explained everything in depth and took time to answer our questions. I loved all the personal assignments as well as the group assignment, where we had to put in a bid and explain our numbers. The workbook and handouts are awesome! I have confidence that when I am presented with a potential job, I won’t be undercutting the market, or myself, and I won’t look like an amateur. I already know that I will be referencing these materials for years to come.

Survival Power: Snare placement can be a key factor to whether or not you catch anything; your ability to know where to set snares relies on you learning and practicing basic trapping skills for capturing small game. Baiting traps with common game foods like nuts, seeds, and berries (and artificial baits) can help boost your snaring success.

By this point you should be pretty confident that you have what it takes to survive in the wild—so let’s up the stakes. You’re not just trapped out in the wilderness, now; you’re behind enemy lines, and you have to survive without letting the enemy know where you are. Obviously a fire is out of the question—or is it? A Dakota fire hole might be just what you need.

But here’s what you can do: find a piece of plastic (saran wrap is perfect) with which you can seal the hole, so that the chest cavity around the lung doesn’t get more air pressure than the lung itself. If this happens, the lung will collapse. When you seal the hole, leave a flap at the bottom that will allow air to leave through the wound without entering it. This may seem useless now, but you never know—you might have to save someone’s life someday.
