Soren Kierkegaard, Frederick Nietzsche, Jean-Paul Sartre, and other towering figures of existentialism grasped that human beings are, at heart, moody creatures, susceptible to an array of psychological setbacks, crises of faith, flights of fancy, and other emotional ups and downs. Rather than understanding moods—good and bad alike—as afflictions to be treated with pharmaceuticals, this swashbuckling group of thinkers generally known as existentialists believed that such feelings not only offer enduring lessons about living a life of integrity, but also help us discern an inner spark that can inspire spiritual development and personal transformation. To listen to Kierkegaard and company, how we grapple with these feelings shapes who we are, how we act, and, ultimately, the kind of lives we lead.

In this scenario, it’s not enough to just recommend a lighter — what you need in this case is actually a proven fire starter — something that will help you get a fire going fast if you’re in an emergency that may end shortly in death by hypothermia.

When it comes to Survival Life, it may be the case that “no news is good news,” but we can’t be sure. While we weren’t able to locate many online customer reviews during our research, here are some of the positives we encountered:

Now, before you say duh, hear me out! It can be difficult to find dry wood if it has been raining for a while. However, you can look for pieces of sticks that are under thick trees, there a good chance that you may find some dry place there.

With a bit of ingenuity you’ve built yourself a shelter that costs much less than a popular brand name tent and should be able to withstand more wear and tear and protect from rain and wind, even snow. In a time of collapse and evacuation, it also catches less attention than something bright blue or orange or yellow like a popular brand name tent.

A record number of firearms enthusiasts made their way to the Florida State Fairgrounds this weekend to attend the Florida Gun Show, amid a fierce national debate over gun rights following the Valentine’s Day massacre at Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland, Florida.

Obviously when you first drop you want to scramble for any kind of weapon you can find, since you never know when you’re going to run into someone else but the first things you should be looking for is a backpack and a helmet. Backpacks significantly increase your carrying capacity, which determines how much ammo and everything else you can haul around. You’re going to be at a serious disadvantage if you need to start passing up med kits and other important items because you don’t have a backpack. Helmets protect you from getting killed in one hit with a headshot, so make sure you’ve always got one.

* By the time the 1997 season rolled around, the Broncos had developed a different identity thanks to the running of Davis. Despite finishing 12-4 that season, the Broncos had to enter the playoffs as a Wild Card because Marty Schottenheimer’s Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC West at 13-3. But that mattered little come playoff time, and Davis was the reason. He had finished the regular season with 369 carries for 1,750 yards (4.7 average) and 15 touchdowns. Then came the playoffs.
Every now and again a plane will fly over and drop a crate filled with some of the best loot in the game. Initially you’d think, Oh, rad, I need that. Problem is, everyone is thinking that. Some of my highest kill games have been games where I’ve been able to get a good position in the high ground above where a crate dropped. People get loot fever, and just run directly to the crates that drop. If you managed to find a scope, picking these players off is like shooting fish in a barrel.

The aim of the renovation is to repair and conserve the tower, upgrade facilities as necessary, and ensure its integrity for future generations.
More beobachtete fasziniert ein paar Saatkrähen.

Hello! I would just like to add that I think that radiation pills, or Potassium Iodide pills, should be included on the list for prepping, and planning, just in case we go into a nuclear war. It may not help in the denser areas of radiation, but as its spreading throughout the country, it will prevent the heaviest symptoms.
Mini survival kits or Altoids tin survival kits are small kits that contain a few basic survival tools. These kits often include a small compass, waterproof matches, minimum fishing tackle, large plastic bag, small candle, jigsaw blade, craft knife or scalpel blade, and/or a safety pin/s. Pre-packaged survival kits may also include instructions in survival techniques, including fire-starting or first aid methods. In addition, parachute cord can be wrapped around the tin. The parachute cord can be used for setting up an emergency shelter or snaring small animals. They are designed to fit within a container roughly the size of a mint tin.

In tropical areas, a survival kit may have mosquito head netting, additional insect repellent, anti-fungal cream, a machete, water purification tablets, foot powder, matches, a flint strike, a compass, a wire saw, a space blanket, medical equipment (gauze pads, elastic gauze bandage, antiseptic creams, anti-malaria tablets, anti-infection tablets, bandages, etc.), salt tablets, a fishing kit, snare wire, extra socks, a candle, a signal mirror, flares, a sewing kit, safety pins, tinder, tape, a whistle, and rations.

Over the past several years, the Remington group, or the group that owns Remington, haven’t had a very good track record with new firearms. As a matter of fact, it has been one failure after another, in my humble opinion. We had the Remington REM380, and it had a lot of problems. Then, there was the R51, and I’m not totally convinced they have worked out all the bugs in this one just yet. And Remington took over manufacturing Bushmaster AR-15 style rifles. I had an early Remington “Bushmaster”, and it wouldn’t group at 25 yards; it patterned like a shotgun, no matter what ammo was used. Then the grand ol’ 1911, that was one Remington used to make during WW2. The early, new model guns were a failure. They would shoot loose inside of a couple hundred rounds. I kid you not.

As a wilderness survival guide, I have mentored many people in the art and science of wilderness survival. I love the answers beginners give to this question. Water! Nope. Food! No way. Fire? Nada. Shelter! Wrong again. A good knife? Definitely not.

This tip may sound silly, but trust me, it helped me a lot on camps. I have a small knife that I always keep in my survival pack. Unfortunately, the knife is brown and black in color. If I drop it accidentally on the floor of the jungle, I waste valuable minutes finding it.

Ensure that your survival kit is up-to-date. Many items of your survival kits have an expiration date. Glow sticks and water purifying tablets go bad after a few years. Check the expiration dates of these items before you head out for your big expedition.

This device is fully operable with only one hand. There are spring action needlenose and standard pliers as well as wire cutters, two knife blades one straight the other serrated, 4 screwdrivers including one Phillips head, 1 saw blade, 1 strap cutter, oxygen tank wrench, can opener, bottle opener and a cleaning rod attachment. All the blades and tools lock in place and are composed of stainless steel. The whole crazy intricate multi bladed multi-tool is only four and a half inches in length, making it a bargain for survivalists. This nifty device which might one day save your precious life, can be found in retail stores or online for around 80 big bad bucks.

Don’t panic if you’re lost. Panic is more dangerous than almost anything else, because it interferes with the operation of your single best, most useful and versatile survival tool: your mind. The moment you realize that you are lost, before you do anything else, stop. Take a deep breath and stay calm. Before you act, follow the tenets of the acronym STOP:

bug netting, bailing wire, dryer lint, welders blanket (fire place making), spear, fish-mox (non-perscription amoxacian) sergical kit, sutures, books on micro sd cards, manriki chain (hunting) duke small body traps, skining knife, and last but not at all least- tony thatchery’s creol seasoning (will displace a gamey taste very nicely.

Gear needs to be customized for each trip, Smith added. “I tell people to make a basic survival kit, but then add gear appropriate for where you’re going, be it the ocean, the desert, the tropics, the arctic, the mountains, or any other environment.”

Okay all you homemade bread lovers out there… Let’s see your favorite bread recipes! I’m sure that most everyone will agree that there’s nothing quite like the smell of breadmaking, from the rise, to the baking, to the table! And there’s nothing like the taste of fresh, warm, homemade bread. …

First you’ll need to find water. Water flows downhill, encourages vegetation, and collects in natural caches, be they ponds, lakes, rivers, springs, rock depressions, or even leaves. Unfortunately, most fresh water sources are not pure enough to drink from (as they used to be), so you’ll need to know how to purify water under most situations. Use any of these methods to collect clean, purified water:

One of the things a person will learn in U.S. Special Forces survival training is that squirrels, rabbits, and other small mammals can make a quick meal. In the wilderness, all you need to know is how to read the ground around you and recognize areas that small mammals are likely to travel. Then set up a number of small, simple traps around the area (dead falls, snares, etc) and simply wait for traps to spring.

If you cannot stay where you are until someone finds you, do not just pick a direction and start walking, even if you have a means of ensuring that you continue to go that direction. Instead, try to go either uphill or downhill. Going uphill offers a good chance that you will find a vantage point, which can help you get your bearings. If you go downhill, you will probably find water which you can follow downstream; in many cases, this will lead you to civilization. But don’t follow water downstream at night or in fog as it may go off a cliff. Never go down into a canyon. Even if there’s no risk of flash flooding, a canyon’s walls can become so steep that the only way out is all the way through it. What’s worse, if there is a stream in the canyon, it may turn into a river with time, forcing you to turn around.

These, along with oak bark are rich in butyric acid that combats the effects of diarrhoea, among other things. Additionally, you can make medicinal tea by brewing them in hot water. The tea alone will help you fight intestinal problems like dysentery and cholera. You can also use the tea to help treat mouth ulcers. This tip also applies to blackberry leaves. They have less butyric acid than acorns but they will help as well.

Excellent list I have most of them on the list. The Army Manuals I have in hard copy. One great thing about serving in special operations is that you have open access to all the field manuals that you can carry. I agree with every one on the list. Great post.

In that time, I ordered some of the items they had to offer. I was disappointed that their stated 15 to 21 business days to deliver a purchased item was standard for them. It got a little better over time, but never got below 15 days.

Have you ever been on a hike admiring the great views, gazing up at the tips of the trees, listening to the rustling of the leaves… and suddenly found yourself completely alone and lost? Naturally, the situation would give way to some level of panic and concern for your safety. While being lost in the woods can be a frightening experience, surviving alone in the wild is generally a matter of common sense, patience, and wisely using the gifts that nature provides. If you want to know how to survive in the woods, just follow these steps.

Ensure that you have a backup of your backup! The rate of something failing is high in the wild. If you don’t have a backup, you be in trouble. So, if you are carrying waterproof matches, take flint and steel set as well.

CBS’s Survivor has become one of the most watched television shows in America. One of the reasons for this show’s success is that there is an adventurer in all of us and since we all cannot be in a survival situation we like to live vicariously through the people on the show.

Flint and steel are probably the oldest tricks to start a fire. All you need to do is strike the flint against the steel to make a spark. You can buy portable steel, and Flint sets cheap these days. There was some criticism, however. Crowther felt the film was too long.[151] Scheuer, whilst mostly praising the film, felt that its biggest fault was “overstatement”, and that it hammered home at points long after they had been made. He singled out the galley rowing sequence, Jesus’ journey to the place of crucifixion, and nearly all the sequences involving the lepers. He also lightly criticized Charlton Heston for being more physically than emotionally compelling.[153] John McCarten of The New Yorker was more critical of Heston, writing that he “speaks English as if he’d learned it from records.”[155] Even William Wyler later privately admitted he was disappointed with Heston’s acting.[14] Film critic Dwight Macdonald also was largely negative.[150] He found the film so uninvolving and lengthy that he said, “I felt like a motorist trapped at a railroad crossing while a long freight train slowly trundles by.”[156] British film critic John Pym, writing for Time Out, was equally dismissive, calling the film a “four-hour Sunday school lesson”.[157] Many French and American film critics who believed in the auteur theory of filmmaking saw the film as confirmation of their belief that William Wyler was “merely a commercial craftsman” rather than a serious artist.[25]
Include some extra school supplies. If you run out of something in your backpack or pencil bag, it’s good to have some extras of the most important stuff in your survival kit. You can also include some things that you won’t need every day, but might need occasionally. Here are some good survival supplies for the classroom:

Location gear/rescue gear. Good array of items there. But bear in mind: gadgets crap out at the most inopportune moment, the sky can become severely overcast, flares can get wet or damaged, and whistles can be lost. All of these are great ideas, and I have mirrors, flares, a beacon, and walkies myself. But there’s one thing I’d add to the list: Hunter Orange or safety vests. Lightweight and compact, never runs out of batteries, highly visible, hard to lose, and needs very little ambient light to be visible. I have an 18″X18″ square of hunter orange with an “X” of reflective stripe sewn on. Imagine a day-glo confederate battle flag, and you likely have the right mental image.

YouTube censorship has taken an ugly turn.  Not long after the tech giant announced that their censorship agenda was because of overzealous new employees, Mike Adams (The Health Ranger) lost his entire channel consisting of 1700 videos.

These handy paracord grenade key fobs are a functional way of never losing your keys as well as always having paracord and a fire rod on you at all times. The common stereotype that preppers are selfish, lone wolf hoarders who have given up on the world is just plain false. Some preppers even go as far as to say the reason they prep is to be able to help others. From our blog post covering the top motivations among liberal preppers, a leader from

Other small kits are wearable and built into everyday carry survival bracelets or belts. Most often these are paracord bracelets with tools woven inside. Several tools such as firestarter, buckles, whistles and compass are on the exterior of the gear and smaller tools are woven inside the jewelry or belt and only accessible by taking the bracelet apart.

This knife has a 3.5-inch blade crafted from Sandvik 12C27 stainless-steel. The blade sits in a rubberized handle, which contains the hidden fire starter rod. The Swedish FireSteel firestarter is one of the best quality ferrocerium rods on the market. The cascade of 5,400°F sparks is plentiful and easy to strike, making it great for everyday campfire starting and survival purposes alike. Altogether, the knife, spark rod, and sturdy plastic sheath only weigh a little over 4 ounces. They are available in several color choices—I recommend the orange, red or pink color for safety and visibility.

On firemaking you covered several useful items. Here’s an idea on the magnifying glass… ever see those older model, big screen, rear projection TVs on the side of the road, at the dump, or in the “free” or “curb alert” ads? Excellent source of compact, VERY powerful magnifying glasses. There’s three in each one. Scrap the screen, find the housings in the bottom, pull them out and crack them open. The housings are tubular and designed like camera lenses with multiple plastic lenses near the ends, but in the middle there lies a high quality glass lens. Not the most durable as they scratch fairly easily, but they’ll start a fire even with pretty extensive scratches. I made some felt lined leather cases for mine, but simply kept them wrapped in a swatch of old flannel shirt and secured with a hairband until I made the cases.

YouTube censorship is getting really noticeable in recent days, and honestly, it should bother everyone.  Now, Alex Jones is saying his channel Infowars is one strike away from a YouTube ban with 2.2 million subscribers.

The suggestions for the kit looks great, however I think you need to get your basics together first, fire making, shelter, first aid, food, and water, for at least 3 days, then weigh your kit. Now see how many pounds are left before you hit your maximum load which is going to vary for each person. Remember if your buggin out this isn’t a Saturday afternoon hike in the park where after three hours or so you thrown your pack in the car and go home. It’s going to be with you day in and day out.

There are a ton of plant species in the wilderness. Many of these plants have excellent medicinal properties. Crab apples, for instance, have an astringent effect that can help heal wounds. Pine resin has an excellent antiseptic property. If you can find eucalyptus leaves, you can burn them to get rid of mosquitoes and other bugs around your campsite.

A compass is also an item of critical importance when traveling in the woods. You can point your compass in the direction of the city or wherever you are embarking from, and remember the direction the compass’s pointer points in. That way, if you’re lost in the woods, all you have to do is turn around until the compass points in the correct direction, and then follow your way back.

I love these things. This WetFire product is very lightweight, easy to ignite, and it has a long burn time. Each cube weighs just .16 ounces and is capable of burning up to 10 minutes at temperatures around 1,300°F. They work in wet and windy conditions with ease. They even float and keep burning, even while floating in water. I’ve been bringing these little waxy cubes out for show-and-tell during survival classes for several years, and I’ve always observed impressive results in the field, regardless of the weather. In my most recent tests, a cube burned for 9.5 minutes on a very damp day—twice the burn time of the homemade alternative (Vaseline-soaked cotton balls). The flame was also much taller than the petroleum jelly on a cotton ball. Several spikes from the WetFire cube were 9 or 10 inches tall, which is twice the height of the flame from a greasy cotton ball.

Now is the time to be calm and think positive. It doesn’t sound like much, but optimism goes a long way, and in a survival situation, it starts with you, your attitude and your will no matter how scared and alone you may feel. First, keep a realistic outlook and diligently plan to keep yourself in the best possible physical and mental state. If something isn’t working out, like building a fire or shelter, don’t rush, because that can lead to panic. Stop, breathe and think about what you need, observe your surroundings and organize a new plan.

Each branch in the tree indicates a split on the value of a variable. For example, the root of the tree splits subjects with grade < 2.5 versus subjects with grade 2.5 or greater. The terminal nodes indicate the number of subjects in the node, the number of subjects who have events, and the relative event rate compared to the root. In the node on the far left, the values 1/33 indicate that 1 of the 33 subjects in the node had an event, and that the relative event rate is 0.122. In the node on the far right bottom, the values 11/15 indicate that 11 of 15 subjects in the node had an event, and the relative event rate is 2.7. The chomebook? Another premade kit that knocked it out of the park. What a genius design! Who would have thought of outfitting a survival kit both inside and outside. In 1922, Great Britain instituted the British Broadcasting Company (BBC). The intent was to provide, “an informed and enlightened electorate”, via a modernized radio transmission system as a means to compete with outside influence.[1] By 1935, the British Ministry of Information added new, but classified, procedures to their directorate.[2] Additionally, alongside an enormous increase in cinema infrastructure, by 1940 the majority of the British populace tuned in on their radios for their daily dose of informative medication.[3] The British provide an example of a more democratic approach to propaganda policies.

Condoms also burn. A latex condom will light up instantly, making it perfect tinder for getting a fire going. And since they’re watertight by nature, they can also be used to safely carry dry tinder. In a pinch, you can use condoms as rope to tie up a tarpaulin for shelter or—seriously—even turn them into a slingshot to hunt small game. Yes, you can hunt wild animals with condoms.

If you wade through a cold river (rivers are common in many wilderness areas), or find yourself suddenly in the rain and need to get a fire going quickly — get this fire going using a micro torch. You can even cook, right from the torch.

Defense / Security: The wilderness can be a dangerous place; so can the streets of a major city following a widespread disaster. This list of top 10 survival gear includes products for defense and security.

There is also a lot of scattered survival information that can easily send you in 100 different direction. Almost every internet prepper “expert”expect you to  put everything together on your own, but almost no one will give you a step by step plan and spell out exactly what you need to do and how to do it in small steps.

That is really amazing list to choose from. I wouldn’t have thought of few items in my list untill I went through this post. I will always give most priority to knives and fire starters. As i think these can the most important tools with help of which you can make it out of the worst situation , If You don’t have access to other tools.

More popularly known as paracord bracelets (because they’re made from the same material as military issued parachutes and equipment), these bands are more than just accessories. They’re actually cords that are woven together, which you can unravel and use partly whenever you need the cords to tie stuff up. Almost every single piece of the paracord bracelet is usable string – right to the small threads that are used to keep the end of the cords together. Use them to tie stuff, hang food, set up traps, and even as tinder to start fires.

Tips: You can increase the likely hood of a trap catching an animal by arranging logs, brush and large rocks to narrow a path that leads straight into each trap you set — from both directions in fact. Squirrels and rabbits and other small mammals can be funneled into any trap that’s been set.

Another rule that I would suggest to all of you is that you can live without thinking for three seconds! It means it takes about three seconds to do something dumb that is horrible enough to get you killed if you are thinking right! So, stay calm and don’t do anything without putting some thought into it.

Even without aluminium foil or space blanket, you can conserve heat from a fire by creating a natural reflector. First, create four stakes that will serve as a rack next to the campfire. Stack green (as in fresh) stakes into the rack until they pile up into a small wall next to the campfire. This will reflect heat otherwise blown away by the wind, giving them all to you. This will work as long as you sit across the reflector.

Being an international postdoc in the United States can be a daunting experience. To sustain the fire, you will need to find dry wood , full branches and anything similar that will provide a slow but long lasting fuel. To create more smoke; simply add living branches, wet leaves and even rubber materials.

If you do get hurt or sick, it is important to have a solid understanding of medicinal plants and herbal remedies. This area of study also spills outside the bounds of this page of our wilderness survival guide. Here too, we have also devoted an entire section of our website to learning this ancient art:

Video requests are welcome – if you’d like to see a particular skill that I’ve not yet shown then feel free to leave a comment. Anything from fire-building, friction fire, fire from natural materials, tinders, charring, wild edibles, plant identification, fungi/slime mold identification, medicinal plants, wilderness first aid and wound treatment, camp cooking, water filtration and purification, natural shelter building, shelter building with synthetic materials, navigation without a compass, improvised compasses, primitive weaponry, primitive trapping, gear reviews, survival kits and gear requests.

My personal EDC habits, especially in terms of how often I swap in and out the things I carry, have changed considerably over the years. I know there are many who like to change what they take out with them daily, but I’ve never been the type to change what I EDC very …

This is a really great post. Survivalife.com is very impressive and a market I think can still be penetrated if someone chose to. The site is designed to perfection, and as the first one to the punch, its become very successful.

Although not necessarily essential for survival, having the right survival tools can sure make life a lot easier. A good survival knife is probably one of the most important all around survival tools that one can carry. A good pocket saw and folding shovel (if you don’t mind the extra weight), can also come in mighty handy. Any multipurpose tool, capable of proving multiple additional backup resources is highly recommended and don’t forget to include any needed repair items, such as duct tape, one of the survival tools with a 100 uses!

I don’t think it’s possible to carry all these items on one’s back! Maybe you could manage carrying them all in a vehicle, but even then it might be pushing it. Definitely the list is meant to be picked and chosen from, and a lot of the items are redundant; as you said “this or that” rather than “have one of each.” I just tried to make the list as all-inclusive as possible, just as a reminder that some things are available, even if they’re not particularly ideal/portable, or what most people would choose to have.

I ordered that item on Dec. 6/16 and have order # 5FR74DEN from Survivallife.com and sent them multiple e-mails which they have answered a few but the 2 they have not bothered. So here they are listed below.

When you get to a water source, you’ll want to filter it, purify it and put some in a bottle. Because you rarely know how far the next water source is and a water bottle keeps you hydrated between sources.

In North America, animals that can potentially be dangerous to you if you don’t know how to avoid them or behave calmly around them include mountain lions, bears, coyotes and any animals carrying diseases such as rabies, hanta virus, etc. Most animals only attack if you threaten them or get between them and their young, or if you appear vulnerable in some way. Don’t scare the animals if you do come across them and keep away from them as much as you can. Read wikiHow’s articles on dealing with each animal should you need to.

WHAT IS COURAGE? In the Parkland high school shooting in South Florida, just a few miles from my home, we saw the extremes of human fortitude in the persons of Coach Aaron Feis and Deputy Scot Peterson. Peterson, a trained security professional, stay…

i have a 7 day bob for me and my dog. i also have an inch bag (i’m not coming home) it weighs about 90 lbs. though too heavy to carry for any distance at all, i need only get to heavy cover and stash non-essentials for later retrieval with gps waypoints, not a problem as pack is packed to remove 7 day essentials in seconds. stash all but weapons and 7 day pack, create a waypoint and go. the stuff left behind can be retrieved once camp is established. i also have caches in place in various locations today, marked with gps, and most only retrievable by small shallow water boat. as well as several modes of bugging out, trike with trailer, tandem kayak, and rv. if you live in florida you better have a boat, and due to pirates, or possible water blockades, i prefer small, silent, and man powered, invisible at night, and i assume too small for radar.

At the grocery store: Favor stores that use a “serpentine line”—that is, a single long line that flows into multiple cash registers (e.g., the line at your local bank). Many Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods stores use this system, and they have proved to be at least three times faster.

We’ve received a lot of reader questions asking us how to prep for diabetes over the years. How many? I couldn’t possibly count. It’s a lot, and not all from preppers who are themselves diabetics either. We get a number of concerned relat…

Water is always your most valuable resource; most people die from dehydration after three or four days without the stuff. Although there are cases of people lasting at least a week without water—the crew of the downed plane Lady Be Good survived walking one hundred miles (160km) across the scorching Libyan desert for eight days with no water—it’s not a good idea to tempt fate. If you’re pinched for water, you can always get it directly from the ground itself.

The growing popularity of the American Redoubt Movement is undeniable. With the exception of chilly Wyoming, in-migration from other states of the Union is now booming. To begin, I want to make it clear that I don’t take credit for any of the success of the Redoubt movement. In fact the movement had begun long before I put a name to it, and before I articulated the prevailing goals and the mindset of the freedom-loving newcomers. But I am glad to see so-called Red States turning a deeper shade of red.

My name is John Winger, I was born and raised in Virginia. I spent a good part of my early adult life in the US military, namely the Army and served in Iraq. If you have two mirrors, you can use the reflection from one mirror as a light source and reflect it from the second mirror. This enables you to signal north even if there is no sun present there to reflect light.

Ammo is heavy. Rocks and pebbles can be heavy too, but you don’t have to carry them. You can find them in nature. So while I don’t support slingshots as real self-defense weapons, I do think slingshots have a place in a survival gear list.

John is a bit of a foodie, so we guarantee the food is going to be great. With a catered dinner on Friday night, breakfast and coffee each morning, amazing food to gnosh on for lunch and snacks throughout the weekend, and happy hour Saturday evening, you will get a glimpse into one of John’s passions: food! Plan to network with your creative peers from around the country and grab dinner on your own Saturday and Sunday nights.

When it comes to gear, I feel I have settled into a groove. I rarely experiment with tobacco these days (same with the pipes) and just stick to what I know I like. Hope you had a merry Christmas, and we’ll see you in the new year! Everyday Ca…

Here are JWR’s Recommendations of the Week for various media and tools of interest to SurvivalBlog readers. This week the focus is on different aspects of the now much-maligned American Gun Culture.  Try as they might, the gun grabbers will never disarm the American citizenry. We will stick to our guns!

Shelter is often your most critical survival priority in the wild, so make sure you always have a way to get out of the elements. The SOL Emergency Bivvy is a sleeping bag-style of sack made from tear-resistant polyethylene with a high visibility orange color to assist your rescue, if needed. This bivvy reflects back 90 percent of your body heat to keep you warm in extreme cold. The bivvy even help you stay dry in the rain with sealed seam edges. It even comes with a handy stuff sack for compact storage. All this, and it’s only 3.8-ounces. You’d be crazy not to take this with you.
