To trim a survival kit down to its top 10 essentials is to reveal the utmost necessary items for ad hoc shelter, warmth, communication, navigation, and sustenance in the deep backwoods. Here, then, are three survivalists’ lean lists of gear you should not be without in any wilderness situation.
Survival Straps donates a portion of the proceeds of all sales to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. lot of companies support charitable causes, but Survival Straps is very serious about their support. As of March 2012, Survival Straps reports donating more than $429,000!
I agree with Mike in his statement that United Cutlery is a very substandard company. Also, the ONLY decent quality hollow handle survival knife that I’ve seen is made by Randall and costs several hundred dollars. I would never choose a hollow, storage handle knife for main line survival purposes. You are definitely best off purchasing a quality carbon steel blade by Ontario, Camillus, Becker, Cold Steel, etc. Also, while some stainless steel alloys are excellent for knife blades, generally speaking they are subpar when compared to carbon steel. Rust is not an issue to those who know how to maintain a blade and good carbon steel has far superior edge holding ability.
You need to get a 6 to 10 inch, full tang, carbon steel knife that has a blade no thinner than 1/8 of an inch. Many Ontario knives meet these requirements, and Ontario’s knives are just as tough as their Spax. You can get knives by cold steel, buck, and scharade that are also bullet proof and wont break the bank.
Stock a Kindle e-book reader, tablet, or Chromebook full of useful survival books and resources and you’ll have a hell of a lot easier time if there’s something you haven’t let learned how to do or need to do for the very first time.

I’m always on a tight budget, so yes, much of my kit is recycled or repurposed. Always remember, you don’t have to go out and buy everything. Adapt, improvise, and overcome. The most beautiful trout I ever caught was caught on a fresh cut bit of bamboo about 4 feet long, dental floss, and improvised wooden fish hook with a beetle tied to it as bait. That beetle put up one hell of a fight. Dental floss is an excellent investment for bugging in or out. Besides the obvious use of dental hygeine, it’s very tough, cheap, compact and lightweight in it’s own little super convenient package, and can be used in any application where a bit of string would serve better than 550 cord/paracord. Can even be used to close wounds in a pinch, multiple strands can be braided together for applications requiring more tensile strength when 550 cord is unavailable, and can be woven into a net. I used some braided strands in Afghanistan as an improvised bootlace to serve my needs until I got back to my patrol base where my spare laces were stowed.

Thin and light, they are worth their weight in gold and have a plethora of uses. Use them to catch rain, cut three holes to improvise a rain poncho, or windproof your shelter. Bring several of them. Trash compactor bags are the sturdiest.
I have purchased several knives from survival life. The first knife I got, someone liked it better than I did and I was not a happy camper. I have given the knives to coworkers and each person likes them as much as I do! They are very sturdy, and well made. The smaller multi-tool is a great little “get me out of trouble” helper. The fire starters are going to be some stocking stuffers. The fire and fishing grenades are also neat. I will continue to purchase them when offered, even when the wife says that I have too many knives and toys.
It’s a massive list for those who’d like to check their own self-made kits off in comparison to something comprehensive – to see if there’s anything they’ve missed that they may have wanted to take if only they’d remembered it.
In survival and SHTF situations, you’ll want to make sure to defend yourself and your family against both other people and animals. There are a variety of ways which you can do this, although of course some work better than others. Certainly look into attaining a firearm if this is legally permissible in your locality, and if you ever consider you may like to have it as a backup option. If you are interested in firearms, make sure to learn about them and train with them prior to an emergency situation. You can’t expect to be good with a firearm your first time shooting.

I think you’re a little short on security. I wouldn’t dream of bugging out or trying to survive post-TEOTWAWKI without a good handgun (or two) in 9mm Parabellum, a rifle in 5.56/223 Remington (whether AR or otherwise), and at least a 308 bolt action for longer range/harder hits.
I’ve called their customer service, and it’s hit-or-miss on being helpful. I canceled my membership when they persisted that I was not a member, despite regular monthly billing. They were finally able to find it, but I thought I could do better with my money elsewhere. The things they sell are not cheaper than the same items elsewhere online when you add in the $19.95 a month charge.
Surviving in the wild — no matter the location or the time of year — depends more on human wit than the gear you have in your pack. But all survival experts still recommend assembling an emergency kit of equipment to stay with you at all times in the wilderness.

LED lanterns and headlamps (yes, the dorky ones) are both a better, user friendly source for task lighting. Just try chopping that onion while holding a flashlight. No suggestions here but there are entire websites dedicated to each. Don’t go crazy on $$, this stuff is all made in the same place, probably by the same people. I have Streamlight, Ray-o-Vac and 30-Day currently on my shelf and I swear the parts are interchangeable.
However I think that the question you wished to ask was what is the purpose of OUR life. We had one such kind of discussion in our classroom. Many of us had different opinions and perspectives and each one was trying to prove his/ her own most logical. Some said that life had no particular purpose, others said that it is just a cycle of nature- living and dying so on and so forth.
Not my personal “go to” weapon of choice, but I’m also not a tactical pen-wielding master. I’ve seen videos on tactical pens being used for self-defense, and they are lethal in the right set of hands.
In case of emergency: behold 18.75 cubic inches of ultra-light, machined, aluminum, in which you will find 25 of the most highly considered and useful life saving tools you could ask for. Then take a deep breath. Think happy thoughts…
I agree with you. 90% of the people who think they will survive from any list will be sorely mistaken. They will die. This list or any other list is a reference for people to think about. Without a doubt there are other items people will regret not having. Duplication of item is not wasteful, but resourceful. If something breaks or is lost then you have a backup. A list is just a list. Using the items on a list, repeatedly, will give ‘brain’ muscle memory. You can not go out and buy a gun, and expect to know how to use it if you have never practiced. I have been an avid backpacker for decades; often traveling alone in the back country. I know how to use my equipment very well. I don’t have to ‘think’ about how to use my equipment.
And if you can breathe but the air is deadly, then you may become a member of the walking dead. Not the zombie variety but the sort where your death is coming soon, you just don’t realize it yet. Think nuclear fallout.
i have a 7 day bob for me and my dog. i also have an inch bag (i’m not coming home) it weighs about 90 lbs. though too heavy to carry for any distance at all, i need only get to heavy cover and stash non-essentials for later retrieval with gps waypoints, not a problem as pack is packed to remove 7 day essentials in seconds. stash all but weapons and 7 day pack, create a waypoint and go. the stuff left behind can be retrieved once camp is established. i also have caches in place in various locations today, marked with gps, and most only retrievable by small shallow water boat. as well as several modes of bugging out, trike with trailer, tandem kayak, and rv. if you live in florida you better have a boat, and due to pirates, or possible water blockades, i prefer small, silent, and man powered, invisible at night, and i assume too small for radar.

Admonition – from a guy who represented a major water company. Two liter pop bottles are cheap because they are not designed to be on the shelf or stored for a long period of time. Buy the correct container although it costs more money. Do not use 5 gallon plastic recycled water containers. Chemicals that have migrated into the plastic can not be removed by washing. Use paint buckets with a “2” rating on the bottom that are new. They are rated as food grade. Not as good as the more expensive specific blue water containers, but they will be ok on a budget.

When it comes to Survival Life, it may be the case that “no news is good news,” but we can’t be sure. While we weren’t able to locate many online customer reviews during our research, here are some of the positives we encountered:

Tips: You can increase the likely hood of a trap catching an animal by arranging logs, brush and large rocks to narrow a path that leads straight into each trap you set — from both directions in fact. Squirrels and rabbits and other small mammals can be “funneled” into any trap that’s been set.
But that wasn’t good enough for the Florida based Survival Straps company, who have devised a way to sweeten the deal, and provide you with something the competition and the homemade bracelets don’t deliver — a brand new replacement in the event that you use the Survival Strap in an emergency. That’s right, use their bracelet to get out of a jam; send in the story with 5 bucks for shipping; and they’ll send you a replacement Survival Strap.

What began as a two-person operation using the only two available paracord colors — black and olive drab — has grown into Survival Straps, a company selling the bracelets in hundreds of color combinations online and in stores such as Bass Pro Shops. “We were able to get a company to start dying it in different colors for us,” Walchle explains.
What about bugs? Elsewhere on the site I’ve recommended mosquito netting — using bobby pins (1) or Velcro and gorilla glue (2) or a heavy duty sewing needle and thread (3) you can hang mosquito netting over your entry way of any tarp shelter you build.

Survival Power: Binoculars are never truly appreciated until a situation that calls for binoculars presents itself. Good binoculars can both aid in hunting and also be essential for long distance navigation by land or by boat (if you’re in a canoe or kayak for example and paddling along a coastline).

“As far as survival gear goes, it really depends on the space you have available, how much weight you can comfortably carry, and how far you plan to venture,” said Mike Forti, a graduate of the United States Air Force Survival School.
Emergency preparedness experts at Survival Kits Online have designed survival kits that contain the most reliable emergency food, water, shelter, communication, lighting, and sanitation supplies available so they are ready when and where you need those most. Don’t wait until it’s too late, get prepared to survive today!
Why would we carry gold? I can understand the importance of silver because it it $20 an ingot and can be used for trade and barter. Gold is a whopping $1,250 a coin, and no one in a SHTF crisis is going to have change for a purchase.
The term “survival kit” may also to the larger, portable survival kits prepared by survivalists, called “bug-out bags” (BOBs), “Personal Emergency Relocation Kits” (PERKs) or “get out of Dodge” (GOOD) kits, which are packed into backpacks, or even duffel bags. These kits are designed specifically to be more easily carried by the individual in case alternate forms of transportation are unavailable or impossible to use.
Survival Life Products carry a standing Thirty (30) Day refund period from the date of purchase. If a physical product has been purchased, the customer care department will issue a RMA number. A lot of great information in here. Your point about making offers is well done. You don’t need much traffic or subscribers to start making offers. As long as you are providing value, people will buy and continue to comeback for more.
In common words, the goal of human existence is to scramble for power and wealth.  Human society is just a stage for race, or competition. To the losers, competition is very cruel. Competition causes a lot of stress, so not everyone likes competition. If you give up, others, including your parents, will look down on you, and tell you that you are useless. Therefore, every one of us born in this society is forced to take part in the competition. Why is human society a stage for competition? Because human beings have needs. The first need is oxygen, and then the needs for food, water, clothes, housing and transportation are followed. All these things are not free, have limited supply, except oxygen. Nobody can survive without food, water, clothes and house, so, people feel unsafe, and then they desire for all these. This desire is limitless. Even if someone has gathered enough wealth for the rest of his life, he still wants to collect more for his children, even his grandchildren. The result of limited resources plus limitless desires is competition.
I’m always very cautious about heavy duty survival necklaces and bracelets, which could hang up on something if you were falling, or get snagged underwater and hold you there. Imagine the headlines in the local paper, “Survival gear kills owner”. Dreadful irony. But the Survival Strap makers have thought that problem through, and come up with a smart solution. Each of their Straps includes a plastic, break-away pin which can replace the stainless steel pin holding the bracelet together. Screwing in the plastic pin will allow you to break free if you ever get hung up.

I just want the items I ordered before I die. If you can have something here within 2 weeks on other orders it shouldn’t ever be a month on any others. If something is on backorder then don’t sell it, or at least tell the customer it’s on backorder and it might be a while before you get it before the customer spends their hard earned money on something they could get somewhere else within days. That’s how you earn respect and trust, that’s how you build a business; on the trust and respect of your customers. Make sure you save and keep up with your emailed receipts and order numbers; if you don’t get one then email them ASAP and ask for it.
At the push of a button, PLBs from companies like ACR Electronics Inc. transmit your position via GPS coordinates and the 406 MHz radio frequency to search-and-rescue centers, who may be able to then start a search process within minutes.

On a Documentary. A country was trying to use geothermal steam. But, as with most places, Electrical power is a use it or lose it just because of the way we design our electrical system. (We don’t have batteries in the loop)… Alas. How does a company store the heat. (Which is the basic component of the steam system).
The freshly woven, American made Survival Strap was very stiff right out of the package, as most of these bracelets are. But after a brief “breaking in” period, the Strap was as flexible as a normal watchband. The stainless steel shackle has three holes in it, which allows you to adjust the fit. If the bracelet is still too big, you can soak it in water for 5 minutes and then let it dry for one day. Repeat this again on the second day, and the strap should have lost ¼ inch.
There are a lot of portable water filters on the market. A popular brand can do a good job filtering water and withstand long term use, but they can be both clunky and expensive, well over $100, with several parts that need to be fitted together.
The day I quit I went through the shaking hands and saying good-bye to all 30 of my colleagues letting them know why I resigned. Then I walked four blocks up Fifth Avenue and started my new, even more inspiring job.
You never know quite what you’re going to get into when you’re out camping, so particularly for those who are new to outdoor exploration, this Bear Grylls survival kit is ideal. The 15-piece kit has tools ranging from firestarters to survival blankets to sewing kits and snare wires, as well as instructions on how to signal for attention if it all goes wrong.

The second we got an air gun, Thomas immediately figured it would be absolutely perfect for a SHTF scenario. You could score some small game fairly easily, even in the city. There’s always squirrels and birds, and sometimes even rabbits to be had.
You order stuff, and they never ship you the product. I am still waiting for the crossbow that I ordered 6 months ago. Also, their customer service is useless and unhelpful. After 3 months of waiting for my first order, they decided to cancel my order without my permission. Then the company sent me an email to order the same crossbow on November 21st, and now again I still do not have my order, and they can’t tell me when I will receive it.
I have ordered several items from Survival Life and have gotten them in a reasonable amount of time. I have never been charged for anything, but the items I have ordered and have not been charged a membership fee. I am very happy with all of the items I have ordered from them.
“The recent Mount Hood tragedy changed my perspective,” Smith said, referencing a climbing disaster in Oregon where three mountaineers died from exposure, despite a huge rescue effort. “A PLB might have saved their lives.”
The leanest survival kits are stored in Altoids tins and the like, and they include just the bare backwoods essentials: matches, fire-starters, fishing line, a tiny compass, water purification tablets, a whistle, a small rescue mirror, and so on.
Since age, disease, bad roads, steep hikes and bad habits have pretty much ravaged my body over the years, I perked up when I learned that the bracelet could make me feel better. However, I’m partial toward western medicine and scientific evidence, so I was skeptical of the miraculous claims. I made phone calls: to Sacramento, to Buffalo, to Phoenix, to Florida. The more phone calls I made to find out how these bracelets are supposed to work, the less I knew.

A signal mirror can serve two vital survival purposes. First, a mirror can signal help to a rescue plan or helicopter. Using the power of the sun to shine a glare towards a rescue team is an excellent way to gain attention.
What was once used as a practical method to carry supplementary cord by soldiers and firefighters, paracord bracelets are now being used by countless outdoor adventurers. By using different parts of the strap to create improvised equipment for food, shelter, and emergency situations, a 550 cord can be the difference between life and death.

Tip: Worried about dangerous wildlife on the ground? Are you in shape for climbing trees easily? Consider hanging your “Bear Mountain Bridge Hammock” 20 or 30 feet off the ground. As well, some survivalists bring barterable items such as fishing line, liquid soap, insect repellent, light bulbs, can openers, extra fuels, motor oil, and ammunition.

I don’t think Ryan bought Survival Life. Not from what I’ve read anyway. Ryan and his team set out criteria for a niche they wanted to get involved with (passionate, spends money, lots of retailers and affiliates, easy to find target audience etc) and survival / prepping ticked all the boxes so they created a site on it.
In the great outdoors, the elements increase your chance of obtaining an injury. In case of an open wound, use a section of your bracelet as a tourniquet and strap it on the wrist or leg of the injured person to control severe bleeding.
There are couple of other sorts of people too, like one who spent their life searching for a sole purpose of their life (why do they exist here and bearing sort of such questions in their head), then there are others who sacrifice their life for others.

There are people in this world, such as monks and missionaries, who may not appear greedy and lack the desire to control other people or things. It is only because these people believe in an afterlife. They sacrifice the present life for the sake of the future life in heaven. What is heaven? In my view, it is the place with indefinite control. Therefore, these people still want control in the end. They want to control their life to come because they believe in it. People that have more control over other people are called politicians. People that have more control over things are called capitalists and people that have more control over knowledge are called scientists. All these people are the forerunners at the intellectual marathon race.
Survival Life was bought by ryan and then he pumped the dough into it to make it go.. it sells a lot of goods because they have large email list. Its a good group and Ryan has/had a program to teach students how to launch a similar concept. being at the right time and right place sure helps wonders.

Indeed, if you’re lost or injured, the right gear can mean the difference between a comfortable night spent outdoors and a cold one. Items like a whistle or a signal mirror can alter fate to issue rescue instead of abandonment.
Even the most Be prepared if you’re forced to spend the unexpected night out. This lightweight bivvy weighs only 3.8 oz., so its conspicuous size and weight won’t weigh you down. Tear-resistant Heatsheets® material reflects up to 90% of your body temperature for efficient warmth. Bivvy is reusable.

I was out on a dive trip, and my watchband was about to break. I dug out some paracord out of my dive box and tied the watch to my wrist. I made the first watch band and fastened it with a marine-grade stainless steel shackle, and then people started commenting on it. It hit me that it was a neat application, and I had actually read an article about how Navy Seals used to stow paracord on themselves during battles in Vietnam, so that’s how we started marketing it as survival gear.
There are a lot of opinions on what works great for a flashlight. It might be wise to have two or three types of artificial light (like a headlamp, for a trail leader) split among your group, and a lantern, for giving a campsite light for a small group. Anyone serious about spending time outdoors should consider carrying at the least a headlamp, which can double as a lantern if hung from a tree branch. A headlamp offer hands-free use and shines a beam of light that can be positioned to point to the ground several feet in front of you, fully illuminating your path of travel. It can also be positioned to shine up and at an angle, if you are climbing a slope or even considering going up into a tree for any reason. Even in the darkest forest or cave, a headlamp will seem like there is light in every direction that you look. It is an essential item for every person’s backpack and even an automobile (changing a tire on the side of the road at night is made easy with a headlamp, allowing to see with ease).

Preparedness gets stylish with paracord bracelets and gear from Survival Straps. Offering American-made survival bracelets and accessories in every color imaginable, you can express your personal style or show your support for the military or your favorite team with Survival Straps. Your Survival Straps certainly look good, but they’re also ready for anything – simply unravel the strong paracord to help you in any emergency situation.
Why buy a muffled whistle to signal for help when you can buy an eardrum-bursting whistle to alert distant people to your distress? The Fox 40 is commonly used as a referee whistle at sporting events, and if it can be heard over the roar of a crown, it can be heard for a long way in the wild. Select bright-colored models for good visibility. This allows for easy retrieval from your pack or if you drop it. The pea-less design works great when wet, dry, and even in subfreezing conditions. If you’ve got any breath left in your body, blow this whistle until the rescue team arrives.

The bracelets are easy enough to make, according to Melissa Duke of Pleasant View, Tenn., who has gone into the paracord jewelry-making business full-time. Duke, 38, made her first bracelet at her son’s request last August, then another for her husband. One year and nearly 1,000 bracelets later, she has quit her medical office job and sells bracelets and key chains online at her Etsy shop, Knot Creations, and elsewhere.
The Survival Straps website is excellent, and there is far more information on the site than I can convey in this short column. The wrist straps are just the tip of the Survival Straps product line, which includes lanyards, key chains, watch straps, belts, and even dog collars. Wrist strap prices start at $24.95, and go up based upon the options selected.
They just did the same thing to me. Charged me $39.95 for a membership I did not agree to. It is bull when she says they give you a notice about this. Never got one never agreed to one and do not want one. Have bought several items from them but will no longer purchase anything from them ever again
Besides the wind, water is the next major vulnerability of stick matches. But neither wind nor water are a match (pun intended) for these amazing matches. I routinely display UCO Stormproof matches to my survival students, striking the large matches and then dunking the burning match in a bowl of water. To the surprise of my onlookers, the match bursts into flame again after being lifted from the water. These matches come in a bomb-proof watertight container with replacement striker strips and even a bit of cotton to keep the matches from rattling around, and to serve as emergency tinder.
I enjoyed your article, made me consider a few things I hadn’t thought of. I know we live in different countries but #12 should be #1. The human race is ugly…period. I’ve seen it in Hurricane Katrina, Mt. Penetubo eruption and 27 months in combat in the middle east…You need weapons and a solid team of like minded people, otherwise your whole list of goodies gets taken away and you get killed or worse. In England…my first priority would be “borrowing” some real weapons from your military/police people, whether they like it or not…..here is the U.S. I already have that base well covered. In SHTF remember the “Golden Rule”…….”Do unto others BEFORE they do unto you”. Because they are going to try….thanks for the food for thought. Cary Kieffer
Forti continued, “In reality, a backpack full of camping gear is simply a large ‘survival kit’ designed for a comfortable and extended stay in the wilderness. A much smaller version of this might consist of a tobacco tin with relatively few items tightly packed in.”
Most ultralight emergency shelters allow condensation to build up inside as you get warm, leaving your clothes soaking wet. With the Escape Bivvy, condensation is no longer an issue. The proprietary fabric lets moisture escape as it keeps rain, snow and wind out, while reflecting your body heat back to you. Imported. Opened dimensions: 84″L x 36″W.
Weight: 8.5 oz.

Is there no point going into the niche if you have competition from everyone buying that WSO and SurvivalLife who you can never really compete with. Probably even if you had the budget, which I def. don’t. I merely have enough to get a site up and buy that WSO but if that’s a waste then I’m scared.

We covered Survival Knives generally in our Bug Bag Essentials post but they are so useful it is worth re-hashing here. Generally you are better off getting a solid, full tang knife from a trusted knifemaker such as Ontario, Camillus, Becker, or Gerber. Stay away from hollow handled survival knives if at all possible. The small amount of storage space will not make up for the overall inferior build quality. For more information on choosing a good knife for any outdoors situation, check out our comprehensive guide by CLICKING HERE.

FOOD: Time is of the essence during an emergency, and food is often forgotten. Our disaster survival kit comes with four 2400-calorie food rations packaged in easy grab-and-go bags for added convenience. U.S. Coast Guard Certified for 5 years.
The events of September 11th, Hurricane Katrina and the devastating Tsunami in Indonesia and surrounding areas have affected us all physically, emotionally and spiritually. Therefore, preparation for all types of disasters MUST be a fact of life. Why leave it up to fate and take the chance that you and your loved ones suffer needlessly during and after a disaster?
I LOVE it! My 4 Person Premium Survival Kit is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered! In these critical times, hard to deal with (2 Tim. 3:1-5), it is imperative to be prepared for whatever calamity may strike at any given time, and my kit helps me to do just that. I received ALL the items noted–including the flashlight lol–and there are PLENTY of supplies! As the description further notes, there is plenty of room for personal effects, i.e., medicine, food, clothing, etc. I also like the fact that each bag can assist TWO people–so if another person is in need, I can help them too. This kit is an EXAMPLE for other kits to follow.
This post is exactly what I would hope to find…solid info with simple action steps to point us in the right direction, undoubtedly followed up with specific, detailed info products you can sell us. 🙂
Another level in some preparedness plans are Vehicle Kits. In some cases, supplies and equipment may be loaded into vehicle such as a van or truck with bicycle racks and an extra “reserve” gas tank. Some survivalists also carry a small (e.g., 250 cc) off-road-capable motorcycle in the van or truck.
Tip: There is no guarantee you’ll be in an area prime for hunting — not unless you do your research first and know where to enter the wilderness so that your journey takes you through remote areas where game is plentiful.
One final thought to consider are the side effects. The toxicity and flavor of iodine can be a little problematic. The iodine tablets are generally not a good choice for pregnant women, anyone with thyroid issues, or shellfish allergies. Picky children are also notorious for failing to drink iodine-infused water, which could lead to dehydration and other serious repercussions in an already dicey emergency. The Katadyn product is chlorine-based, the flavor of which dissipates over the allotted 4-hour waiting That product is widely tolerated and tastes much better.

Looks great in the photo’s, but it is not what I received. Very disappointing and not as sturdy/durable as expected based on the photos. The photos show (2 of the 3 photos they have on the page) this great stainless steel buckle and heavy stainless steel screw (similar to what I have received on other high dollar Paracord Survival Bracelets) set to hold it firmly in place. The bracelet I received has a cheap nylon plug to hold it together (photo of what I received attached). I assume that will last a couple of weeks and will loosen up from daily outdoor wear and tear or snap off. The photos advertising it are no doubt false and not the product they ship. It’s an absolute shame that a company that markets this worthy cause uses misleading photos to sell their substandard product. I have been on Amazon many, many years and this is the worst item I have received to date based on what was shown versus what I received.

Thank you for this, it’s great. We’re going to be putting together a first aid/medical kit list sometime in the future, and I’ll definitely take that first list into account when we get around to posting that. It’ll be really helpful.
I think having a satellite phone should be on this list. Once you buy one you can purchase emergency minutes that last for two years, then you re-up. The phone will last forever, and it guarantees you can make a call in any situation, and they aren’t as bulky as they once were. There is actually a device no bigger than my wallet that can turn your smart phone into the satellite phone….preparedness matters!!

– Get yourself unstuck from paralyzing fear and pain. It means working hard to change so you can feel good and be healthy and positive, even under excruciating circumstances. You’ll find and create some kind of relief to get to a better place. Believe in yourself. You absolutely can do it.
n Buy your paracord from a reliable source to make sure it’s military-issue — that is, rated to uphold 550 pounds per strand. Cheaper paracord is on the market, but it’s weaker. Duke shops at three online sites: The Supply Captain, Survival-Pax Co. and Armed Forces Outfitters Inc.
In the real world, economic collapse won’t necessarily present itself overnight, and for those who don’t want to live in the woods, being able to transfer large sums of wealth from one country to another is a perfectly viable option. Obviously, for bartering, silver, alcohol, cigarettes, toilet paper, etc. are better options. Gold should just be viewed as a sort of insurance policy for monetary collapse, not for teotwawki.
I prefer the Sawyer Products SP128 Mini Water Filtration System over the lifestraw. It’s rated for 100,000 gallons (provided you backflush it with the included syringe when it needs it) and it can be “hacked” for use as a gravity fed filter. If you’ve ever had to pump a filter for 5 or 6 hydration bladders you’ll REALLY appreciate this ability.
If you’re not already on “team headlamp,” let’s get one thing straight. The headlamp is to an outdoors person as the internet is to shopping. Once you’ve seen firsthand just how easy and effective it is, you’ll wonder how you ever got along without it. Headlamps give you light right where your gaze falls, and they leave both hands free to work. Olympia’s Explorer (EX) Series of headlamps has been designed with outdoor junkies in mind: This series gives us lamps with great features that don’t cost a fortune. This tough aluminum body headlamp casts out a scorching 550 lumens, and it’s perfect for chasing down a blood trail after dark, cooking in camp, or working under the hood of your truck. The Cree XM-L LED bulb delivers a beam of light that can reach out 135 meters, and it has five lighting modes, including a distress strobe. It’s even down to one meter.
This survival tool is called Rescue Me Balloon, a small, easy-to-carry emergency survival tool that places an SOS balloon 150 feet above a person in an survival situation and illuminates an SOS signal using an LED light. The rescue me balloon will s
While water packs can be punctured easily and can be a pain to refill, the Hydrapak Stash collapsible bottle is super durable and comes in sized of up to 1L. It’d be ideal to carry in your backpack just in case something does go wrong with an original water bottle and your left without a source able to carry water.
I’ve ordered several items from this company and have got exactly what I was promised. As some others have stated, the products were made in China but are what they promised. I feel I got a fair product for a fair price. I’ll watch for unexpected charges but have not had any so far. I’m happy with this company. And yes I would recommend them to friends. Also, I’ve order the HR30, the spy pen, the fire starter and a flash light and all came in good time and were decent products for what I paid.
I ordered the free knife knowing going in that is was just a lure to get you to buy something else. When I saw the offer for a second free knife, I knew that is was a catch. If you bother to read anything else, it tells you that you are also going to be in their club and there was a monthly fee. I clicked on “no thanks” and got my free knife with no problems, and it is good for what it is.
I highly recommend the Biolite stove as an emergency cooking stove. It does not require anything but natural bio fuel such as pine cones, twigs and sticks. There is a battery that recharges while the fire is burning. This battery charges phones, runs a small light via USB port on device. Very useful if there is no way to charge your devices. There are also attachments that provide camp site lighting also recharged by the stove while burning. It is pricey but works like a charm, weight is very little and has a nice grill attachment for cooking meat or veggies. I don’t work for them just have had great experience with this flexible little stove.

I imagine their promos mostly get done via their email list and NOT on the website, that’s how most blogs making money from affiliate marketing do things – not through plastering ads all over the site.
Similar to those old toys and puzzles where you had to pop out each piece from the plastic holder it came attached to, the Readyman wilderness survival card is a completely flat piece of metal that co.

n After a bracelet is woven, the ends are attached to a buckle. Duke uses a plastic, side-release buckle. Walchle goes for a stainless-steel anchor shackle, conventionally used to connect an anchor to a chain.
It’s about creating a site that keeps people engaged, gets them clicking and lowers bounce rate and if you read about SurvivalLife over on DigitalMarketer.com you’ll see them talk about how they initally went with a really clean design similar to Uncrate.com but their bounce rate was terrible so they made the site really messy and ugly and bounce rate dropped dramatically.
With over 1000 uses combined, this expertly assembled kit is the smartest and most compact survival edc kit of it’s kind. Reduce the fear and anxiety that arise from the uncertainty of being prepared. Keep this kit near you and be confident that you can survive a multitude of situations by having access to simple, high quality tools that have been thoughtfully assembled for you in one compact package.
CR123 batteries pack a lot of power in a small package, and the lithium ones have a shelf life of 10 years, which is why they’re up on the list. You can also purchase rechargeable ones (here, for example) that you can charge with your solar panel array. At the end of the day, 3.7 V will always be a lot more versatile than 1.2 V batteries because you can always lower current (make it dimmer), you can’t increase it (make it brighter). 900 lumens to the face is an extreme force multiplier.
As seen on TV’s Shark Tank. Each belt is custom made for you. Each E & E belt is handcrafted in the mountains of Cedar City, UT. English harness leather is some of the finest and most durable leather and is often used in horse sad…
Get a small fishing tackle box with a few essentials catch some trout, bluegill, or bass. A few crankbaits, some plastic worms, toss in some catfish stink bait, some lead, some hooks, a bobber or 2 and you’re all set.
I was going to order their Everstryke Permanent Match from a FB ad. I am so glad I thought to research the company a little first. This link shows a warning on the BBB’s website – in big red letters. I protected my personal information, as well as my bank card, by doing a quick Google search that took about 30 seconds.
There’s also plenty of cheap, yet high quality survival gear that’s a great price whether or not it’s on sale. If you’re interested, take a look at what we think the best bang-for-buck survival gear products are at the $5, $10, $15, $20, & $25 price points.
A commercial option for people who choose to take the minimalist route is the Pocket Survival Pak from Survive Outdoors Longer (SOL). This wallet-size packet of miniature multi-use survival items includes duct tape, a pencil, safety pins, seweing needle, nylon thread, aluminum foil, compass, fish hooks and sinkers, magnifying lens, braided nylon cord, stainless steel wire, scalpel blade, signal mirror, fire starter, tinder, waterproof paper, whistle, and a waterproof instructional sheet on the items.
Disclaimer: Just in case it’s not obvious I’m not claiming that if you copy this model or create a similar site you’ll make a million dollars a month. You might make $0. It just an example of what is possible.
I understand it’s not the same business model as TIWIB, but the numbers just don’t add up in my head. Even with 270k email subscriptions, you’d have to blasting out promotions every single day, and have incredibly high conversion rates to make 1 million a month. The fact that this website is being used as a proof of concept to their marketing skills just adds to my suspicions.
According to the Survival Life website, membership to the Lamplighter society provides an easy, practical way of obtaining information related to survival preparedness, without having to spend years of trial and error. With this in mind, membership is claimed to provide the following benefits:
I like what it has for the price, this kit has the essentials for a family facing an emergency situation ~ including a few things I might not have though of. I like the fact that there is room in the bags to add personal items like shoes or clothes. When the kit arrived, one of the pieces was damaged, and the company was incredibly responsive in sending a replacement, I was most happy with the service.
There is another set of people who struggle through out their life, running behind mundane materialistic things, accumulating them, until they realise that nothing will accompany them when they will depart from this earth. Better late then never, they realise the true essence of life and start living it the way they actually should have been doing their whole life.
Storage: Batteries are the way most of us think of storing power. But, so is a Gas tank. or a Rural propane tank, a heat sink… (I’ll hit the sink and propane tanks again). Sometimes thinking out of the box can solve a real problem storing power. Storing Electricity used to be a huge one. Today we have very reliable large capacity batteries.
Each of our survival kits comes with a Lifeline first-aid kit that includes necessities like bandages; alcohol pads and more. Other essential first-aid items found in the overall kit are: glowsticks, work gloves, masks and an emergency whistle.

A geothermal system is a very efficient power source, steam is nearly free. The piping and Generators are typical of Hydro, Nuclear and other Electrical power plants. Yet, in this case the customers paid high rates. Because of the design of the Electrical infrastructure. No surge and No storage. They had to install expensive turbine (gas jet engine) powered generators.
Given that our Survival Straps are made from several feet of super-strong military spec paracord, there’s a lot of survival power that you can pack into one paracord bracelet. But it does take a bit of know-how to suddenly become the McGyver of Survival Straps. The good news? Once you acquire the know-how provided in this article, you’ll be ready to shelter yourself, feed yourself, and keep your most valuable items out of harm’s way. And when it comes to Survival Straps, that’s just the tip of the survival iceburg.

The “Bear Mountain Bridge Hammock” is a “sleep straight” hammock, due to the way it’s constructed. It is also an enclosed shelter — if you opt for one of these you don’t need a tarp shelter or tent. Consider a hammock like this model for those times you want to be up off the ground — for example during heavy rains or crossing through marsh, swamp, or even jungle.

What about using the cord? Of course I had to tear one apart. I was hoping for a knife free teardown, but I did have to bring out the blade at the end of the 93 second unraveling process. The melted end of the cord wouldn’t fit through the hole in the shackle, so I had to clip off the swollen end of the cord. Upon cutting the end of the cord, the seven inner strands were plain to see. The most surprising part of the operation was the length of cord. I was expecting about five feet of paracord, but instead, I received just over 9 feet of cord. It’s amazing to think that so much cord was woven into such a little item. No wonder the Strap was initially stiff — it was stuffed to the gills.
Banangrams! I hate playing that game with my (English teacher) daughter! I get stressed out playing games with time limits, or with “experts” who know the game much better than I do. I guess it’s partly my competitiveness and partly post-traumatic stress that I’ve been dealing with. I don’t mind Clue, even though I’m not good at it, but Monopoly is “bad” for me.
I don’t think you should give up the Quick Clots and swap them for maxi=pads or tampons. Quick Clot is shown to stop bleeding maybe 5 times faster which is life saving if you need that. A tampon/maxi-pad could be used for wounds, but not life threatening wounds. Just my 2 cents as a nurse.
The rest of your ideas are awesome! The olive oil in a jar though. Some of your suggestions seem to be more relevant to a bug out situation, whereas the jar of oil is not. Very useful tip for a bug in situation though! Personally, I have lamps and lamp oil in stock for home use, plus emergency candles in my BOB.
In survival, shelter is a must-have. A tent or a tarp is a sure way to keep you and your supplies dry—but only if you can successfully rig it so that you don’t have to wear the tarp like a poncho. A paracord will function as a brilliant tarp-rigger at a moment’s notice.

The folks at Survival Straps are serious about the tool aspect of their products. They don’t want you to hesitate to use your strap for its intended purpose. So much so, that the company will replace any wrist strap that you unravel for any reasonable purpose. All they ask is that you drop them a line, tell them about how you used the strap (preferably with a photo), and pay $5 shipping. As a result of this policy, Survival Straps has collected a bunch of stories about real world uses for their products that you can read on their website: www.survivalstraps.com. From a make-shift tourniquet to a tie down strap for gear, the real world uses for paracord are nearly endless.
If you bait these traps you have greater chances of not only catching an animal, but catching it faster than if you didn’t bait these traps. How would you like to check your traps the next morning and find a few animals snared, not just one (if you were lucky to get even one)? (Kaytee Squirrel and Critter Blend provides natural bait for an “urban survival” or “live off the land” scenario).

The best thing to do when broke is blog about something you are passionate about that you know you can be monetized. It’s cheap to get started, no need to buy content, no need to outsource. You’ll have a much better time staying focused and dedicated to it.
Very comprehensive list, the first one I’ve seen a Personal Location Beacon on. I will comment on one aspect, communication, my family is scattered all over the country and I’m sure (hopefully) they will all want to know I’m OK. We have one member of the family as a contact for all of us to call on our cell phones. Local communication lines will be jammed, internet will be down. The next goal will be to remain safe for the first 3 days, but communication is #1. Good article! A lot of knowledge here.
I think you’re a little short security. I wouldn’t dream of bugging out or trying to survive post-TEOTWAWKI without a good handgun (or two) in 9mm Parabellum, a rifle in 5.56/223 Remington (whether AR or otherwise), and at least a 308 bolt action for longer range/harder hits.
That website also talks about how Ryan is NOT a prepper. He isn’t. He openly talks about how he created SurvivalLife as he recognised it as a fanatical niche where there was lots of money to be made not because he was interested in the niche.
If you’re planning on getting rescued, or if you’re at all interested in navigation, communication, or really any way of knowing what’s happening in the outside world after the shit hits the fan, you might be interested in adding a few of the survival gear items below to your stockpile. Though not every survivalist/prepper will be interested in staying connected if the SHTF, if this is important to you, make sure you have a way to do it!
One such person said that the purpose of life was ‘to love and be loved’. At first I thought it to be naive and stupid and did not even give it a second thought. Then I wondered about why an educated person would put forward such a simplistic and spiritually motivated reason among a  set of extremely logical and convincing reasons given by others. It was then I started thinking about this seemingly illogical purpose of life.
I ordered the Richter 15 knife (paid shipping cost only) and surprisingly, it arrived in just a few days! I like that! When I opened it up, it was slower than I anticipated and it didn’t fully open. To me, no big deal because of the price & it’s a sharp, sturdy knife. Then I saw the Richter30 advertised with an additional 25% off! I clicked the button, then another & the back button & quickly made a huge mess of my bank account! I called the company and the gal was awesome.
They say water is life. The human body is composed of 70 percent fluids, which are constantly drained with extreme heat and continuous movement. It is important to constantly hydrate your body with clean water…
The transportation items may include bicycles with off-road tires and suspension, emergency tools and spare auto parts (e.g., fuses, fan belts, light bulbs, head light, tire pump, etc.), and an inflatable raft with paddles.
In that time, I ordered some of the items they had to offer. I was disappointed that their stated 15 to 21 business days to deliver a purchased item was standard for them. It got a little better over time, but never got below 15 days.
As per the perspective of a human being, we are born, we grow old and older and die. Only a lucky few will live to be a hundred years old. When we are born, instead of viewing it as WE come into existence, let us switch our perspectives and think that the world comes into existence for us. And when we die, the world is no more for us. So, for us its only that 100 years of world with everything in it. After I am gone, there is no world because there is no ‘me’ to behold it. So, my purpose of life should be to enjoy and stay happy in those 100 years instead of worrying to make the world “a better place”.
The leanest survival kits are stored in Altoids tins and the like, and they include just the bare backwoods essentials: matches, fire-starters, fishing line, a tiny compass, water purification tablets, a whistle, a small rescue mirror, and so on.
