It is the hope of the IPC that the Survival Guide will become a useful initial resource for both prospective and current international postdocs in the United States, a resource that will evolve and adapt to reflect changes that affect the international postdoc community. The IPC welcomes comments, suggestions for improvements, and contributions to the Been There, Done That! section. Postdocs are invited to contact the International Officers.

For personnel who are flying over large bodies of water, in additional to wearing a survival suit over cold water, a survival kit may have additional items such as flotation vests, sea anchor, fishing nets, fishing equipment, fluorescent sea marking dye, pyrotechnical signals, a survival radio and/or radio-beacon, formerly a distress marker light replaced by a flashing strobe, formerly a seawater still[4] or chemical desalinator kit now replaced by a hand pumped reverse osmosis desalinator (MROD) for desalinating seawater, a raft repair kit, a paddle, a bailer and sponge, sunscreen, medical equipment, a whistle, a compass, and a sun shade hat.

Duct tape is one of the simplest pieces of the tool in my survival kit. It may seem a simple thing, but it has helped me in many tricky situations. I never leave for a hike or a camp without it in my backpack.

These are absolutely excellent points about different ways of generating energy and how important storing the energy you have is! I actually think you put it wonderfully. You’re 110% correct, having all your eggs in one basket is never as good as having multiple forms of energy. Always great to have 2 or 3 backups, certainly. And storing generated energy is obviously equally as important as generating it.

One can also make more complex inferences from the survival distribution. In mechanical reliability problems, one can bring cost (or, more generally, utility) into consideration, and thus solve problems concerning repair or replacement. This leads to the study of renewal theory and reliability theory of ageing and longevity.

This may not be the best-smelling solution to preventing heatstroke when you’re out in the scorching desert, but it works. Take a piece of cloth like a bandana and soak it in urine. Wrap it around your head and it will keep your head from feeling the wrath of the sun. Heat stroke is the second leading cause of death in the desert, next to dehydration.

Water from many waterbodies may seem clear, but it is filled with microscopic organisms that may cause severe infections. If you must wash the wound, make sure that you use clean water. If you can boil water, then use boiled water to clean the wounds. If you can’t use boiled water, you can use the water collected from tree transpiration. We have seen how to collect this water in the tip#10.

Wrap the longer piece firmly around your finger, starting next to the ring and continuing toward the end of the finger until it’s wrapped well past the joint you’re trying to get the ring past. The goal is to compress the swelling and push some of it toward the skinnier part of your finger.

I am the invisible prepper. I am, on the surface, a caricature of everything that most SurvivalBlog readers seem to deplore. On the surface, I am a caricature of what the non-prepper community expects me to be– completely average in every way. Who…

“The [Second Amendment’s] prohibition is general. No clause in the Constitution could by any rule of construction be conceived to give to Congress a power to disarm the people. Such a flagitious attempt could only be made under some general pretense by a state legislature. But if in any blind pursuit of inordinate power, either should attempt it, this amendment may be appealed to as a restraint on both.” – William Rawle

The Fed has created a mountain of problems for everyone in the United States and every single solution that they come up with leads to even more problems. Ron Paul recently discussed what the Fed has done, how it tries to keep things going, and the inevitable economic crisis that is coming.

Losing your direction without a compass can be a deadly mistake, and nature is not a forgiving beast. If you’re willing to wait a whole day, you can figure out west and east by the direction of the setting sun; but without food and water, time is a luxury you might not have. That’s why getting an accurate compass bearing is crucial, and you can do it easily with a simple analog watch.

LED lanterns and headlamps (yes, the dorky ones) are both a better, user friendly source for task lighting. Just try chopping that onion while holding a flashlight. No suggestions here but there are entire websites dedicated to each. Don’t go crazy on $$, this stuff is all in the same place, probably by the same people. I have Streamlight, Ray-o-Vac and 30-Day currently on my shelf and I swear the parts are interchangeable.

Jack Spirko, who runs The Survival Podcast, provides a daily online audio program that focuses on modern survival concepts and philosophy. Some of what he teaches are skills such as gardening and permaculture, food storage techniques, alternative investing strategies, keeping small livestock, home energy production, food preservation, and creating individual liberty.

Your list is pretty good and pretty comprehensive. However, it seems a bit all over the the map. Maybe some further breakdown of home/car/BOB would be in order. Right now, my home and car kits are good, but I’m browsing the web for ideas on more or better gear for my BOB. And as I’m browsing through your list I see…

Find a good source of water. In a survival situation, you can last up to three days without water, but by the end of the second day you’re not going to be in very good shape; find water before then. The best source of water is a spring, but the chances of finding them are slim. You should also look out for nearby birds, because they like to fly around fresh water. Drink your remaining water — you should ration it, but not so much that you’re thirsty right away.

I’ve ordered several items from this company and have got exactly what I was promised. As some others have stated, the products were made in China but are what they promised. I feel I got a fair product for a fair price. I’ll watch for unexpected charges but have not had any so far. I’m happy with this company. And yes I would recommend them to friends. Also, I’ve order the HR30, the spy pen, the fire starter and a flash light and all came in good time and were decent products for what I paid.

If you want a multi-tool for both urban survival and your firearms, you can purchase a Leatherman Tactical Multi-Tool, get superior construction also like the Swiss Tool mentioned above; be sure to get the the 40 bit add-on set. That’s 40 bits of various sizes; in an urban environment, you should be able to open just about anything you come across. It may get you into buildings. It may get you out of danger on more than one occasion.

Astronauts are provided with survival kits due to the difficulty of predicting where a spacecraft will land on its return to earth, especially in the case of an equipment failure. In early US space flights, the kit was optimised for survival at sea; the one provided for John Glenn on the first American space flight in Friendship 7 contained a life raft, pocket knife, signaling mirror, shark repellent, seawater desalting tablets, sunscreen, soap, first aid kit, and other items.[5] A survival kit was provided for the Apollo program which was …designed to provide a 48-hour postlanding (water or land) survival capability for three crewmen between 40 degrees North and South latitudes.[6] It contained a survival radio, a survival light assembly, desalter kits, a machete, sunglasses, water cans, sun lotion, a blanket, a pocket knife, netting and foam pads.[7]

Check out the 26 wilderness and survival hacks below so you're always be prepared. As a father of 3 small children, I have always tried to protect and provide for all their immediate and future necessities.  I could not come home and tell my kids there was no food on the shelves.  Now, I can sleep in peace having purchased years of emergency food! We highly recommend that you try to memorize major landmarks, rivers, roads, and other areas that stand out on the map The communications equipment may include a multi-band receiver/scanner, a citizens band (CB) radio, portable walkie-talkies with rechargeable batteries, and a portable battery-powered television. The power supplies may include a diesel or gasoline generator with a one-month fuel supply, an auto battery and charger, extension cord, flashlights, rechargeable batteries (with recharger), an electric multi meter, and a test light. Defense items include a revolver, semi-automatic pistol, rifle, shotgun, ammunition, mace or pepper spray, and a large knife such as a KA-BAR or a bowie knife. With a calm center, over half the struggle is over. As I mentioned earlier, the most common physical reason that people die in wilderness survival situations is exposure to the elements. A person can die from exposure in as little as three hours. You must learn how to stay warm when it is cold, how to stay cool when it is hot, and how to stay dry when it is wet. Enter the wilderness survival shelter. It can take many forms, with a classic one being the debris hut. The debris hut is a small, one person shelter that is basically a simple structure that cocoons a person in leaves, grasses, boughs, or other natural debris to keep them insulated. It is built to shed water. Just imagine a primitive tent and sleeping bag all in one. LED lanterns and headlamps (yes, the dorky ones) are both a better, user friendly source for task lighting. Just try chopping that onion while holding a flashlight. No suggestions here but there are entire websites dedicated to each. Don’t go crazy on $$, this stuff is all made in the same place, probably by the same I have Streamlight, Ray-o-Vac and 30-Day currently on my shelf and I swear the parts are interchangeable. A quick question on food storage – if I use mylar bags to store grains inside plastic buckets that are NOT denominated “food grade,” will this ruin my efforts? Must I only use “food grade” plastic buckets? M.D. #8, NATO Surgery…. appears to only be the table of contents and not the entire document. 30 pages of table of contents unless my download is bad. Thanks, there’s a lot of good info in those 14 items. The basic physical instinct is survival. You eat for your survival. You drink for your survival. You play, read et cetera for your leisure. These come after the basic survival instincts. Subconsciously, whatever we do, is somehow related to it. In the histograms, the thickness values don’t look normally distributed. Regression models, including the Cox model, generally give more reliable results with normally-distributed variables. For this example use a log transform. The log of the thickness of the tumor looks to be more normally distributed, so the Cox models will use log thickness. The Cox PH analysis gives the results in the box. Want to see at night, even in total darkness? This infrared monocular from Night Owl rivals the optics of advanced products costing hundreds of dollars more. Designed for single hand use and easy operation of power and infrared buttons. See sharp images even in pitch darkness. Know whether or not that twig snapping outside camp is just an opossum or if it's a bear or other predator. Plastic/rubber tubing is good for slingshots, tourniquets, can be used as a straw to draw water from holes in the ground, etc. Wire saws are good, too. Though of course they can’t do everything a regular saw can, their portability, your right, makes them a huge asset. On the heels of news that the United States is posturing ships in the Black Sea near Russia’s border, Vladimir Putin revealed a slew of new defense systems Thursday, including a new prototype missile that “can reach any point in the world.” He also has a supersonic weapon that cannot be tracked by anti-missile systems. One of the top survival priorities in an emergency is to find and disinfect enough drinking water. Two of my favorite water disinfection tablets are Katadyn’s Micropur tablets, and Potable Aqua’s Iodine tablets. While these two products use different chemicals, they are both more than 99 percent effective against waterborne pathogens. So while they both are highly effective, you should still weigh the pros and cons of each. [redirect url='https://silent-fear.org/bump' sec='7']

What creates the thick smoke?  – Dry grass, leaves, pine needles, paper, wood shaving, small sticks are great for starting fires. To sustain the fire, you will need to find dry wood , full branches and anything similar that will provide a slow but long lasting fuel. To create more smoke; simply add living branches, wet leaves and even rubber materials.

Bear Grylls has made an entire career on showing geeks how to survive in the wild, so if it has his name on it, you can bet that it will save your ass. The fire starter is a ferrocerium rod combined with a metal striker so you can blaze it up, while the Lifestraw Personal Water Filter removes 99.9999% of all waterborne bacteria, which is better than the EPA standard. Dehydration and exposure are two of the deadliest – and most overlooked – things that will getcha in the wild, and these tools make it much easier to deal with both. They also come with an emergency whistle for when you get lost or just want to harass the local wildlife.

First you’ll need to find water. Water flows downhill, encourages vegetation, and collects in natural caches, be they ponds, lakes, rivers, springs, rock depressions, or even leaves. Unfortunately, most fresh water sources are not pure enough to drink from (as they used to be), so you’ll need to know how to purify water under most situations. Use any of these methods to collect clean, purified water:

Last week’s madcap unscripted biparitsan meeting on gun issues bewildered conservatives in the House and Senate. This session made Senator-For-Life Diane Feinstein gleefullly gesticulate like an old crone. Either President Trump had caved in, or perhaps he was cleverly attempting to overload the proposed omnibus legislation package with poison pills. (Some have suggested that he wanted a repeat of the doomed DACA Bill.)

It’s about creating a site that keeps people engaged, gets them clicking and lowers bounce rate and if you read about SurvivalLife over on DigitalMarketer.com you’ll see them talk about how they initally went with a really clean design similar to Uncrate.com but their bounce rate was terrible so they made the site really messy and ugly and bounce rate dropped dramatically.

March 6th was the birthday of Leroy Gordon “Gordo” Cooper Jr., born in 1927 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. This U.S. Air Force pilot and astronaut was aboard Mercury 9 and Gemini 5. Cooper had his exploits well documented in Tom Wolfe’s book The Right S…

Admonition – from a guy who represented a major water company. Two liter pop bottles are cheap because they are not designed to be on the shelf or stored for a long period of time. Buy the correct container although it costs more money. Do not use 5 gallon plastic recycled water containers. Chemicals that have migrated into the plastic can not be removed by washing. Use paint buckets with a “2” rating on the bottom that are new. They are rated as food grade. Not as good as the more expensive specific blue water containers, but they will be ok on a budget.

Since we’re bloggers ourselves, we decided it would be unfair to throw our own sites into the mix (we are of course biased!), but if you’d like to check out our survival sites besides this one, you can take a look at them here:

In March 2011, Rawles formulated the American Redoubt movement. Rawles proposes five western states (Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, eastern Oregon, and eastern Washington) as a safe haven for conservative Christians and Jews.[72] The concept was endorsed by former Presidential candidate Chuck Baldwin, who had recently relocated his entire extended family to western Montana.[73] One of its adherents, John Jacob Schmidt, started a weekly podcast called Radio Free Redoubt to help further the movement.[74] There is no data to measure how many people have moved into the area in response to this plan.

Another premade kit that knocked it out of the park. What a genius design! Who would have thought of outfitting a survival kit both inside and outside. Even better, there was a little room left over to add a couple of things on the inside. Although I enjoy putting survival tins myself, I couldn’t pass this one up. I’m glad I didn’t.

– Bates Light series are nice, like putting your foot in a baby seal, but if you have high arches, get some good support – they also run narrow… Try on before you buy. – Bates also need very minimal break in time – IF you can afford them, always go with Danner brand combat boots – the USMC RAT boot is the tank of footware, they are pricy (all mine are issued 🙂 ) but well worth the cost.

Ideal body temperature is 98.6 degrees. Twenty degrees below or six to eight degrees above can be fatal. If it takes spooning with a buddy to survive a night in a frozen tundra because you took a wrong turn at that last glacier, we won’t judge you.

When you’re in a dark, troubled place acknowledge it. Face your fears, worries and enemies and see what happens. When you look right into the face of despair and start to deal with it you’re on your way to freedom.

Survival Life is a website that provides its members with articles, newsletters, books, tools, and resources all focused on being prepared to withstand and survive any sort of natural or economic disaster people may find themselves in.

Civilians such as forestry workers, surveyors, or bush pilots, who work in remote locations or in regions with extreme climate conditions may also be equipped with survival kits. Disaster supplies are also kept on hand by those who live in areas prone to earthquakes or other natural disasters. For the average citizen to practice disaster preparedness, some towns will have survival stores to keep survival supplies in stock.

If you’re suffering from hypothermia, bubble wrap can save your life. Who would have guessed? Apparently, the air bubbles in the packing material create an insulating shield that bounces back body heat to keep a person warm. In one study, it was found that a sheet of bubble wrap was about seventy percent as effective as three cotton blankets for insulating a person—and since it’s made out of plastic, it was even more effective in the wind and rain.

Relying on one signal mirror isn’t a good idea because the sun always travels south. This means that a single mirror will not allow you to catch the attention of rescuers flying from the north. The second signal mirror will be essential to reflect the light you get from the south to reflect it into the northern direction. Simply hold one of the mirrors facing south and another facing north, making sure that the light bounces off both.

Binoculars are often overlooked as an essential piece of survival gear. The fact is, you can survive without binoculars, just like early century Native Americans who lived off the land. Key difference though that they knew the land — there’s a good chance you’re going to end up in a place that you don’t know very well, especially in a mountain range, vast desert, or national forest.

The key to prevention? Eat slower. As one McMaster University physician found in a study of 145 students from his daughter’s middle school, kids who scarfed a bowl of ice cream
in five seconds or fewer were twice as likely to feel brain freeze as those who took their time.

If you are having insect bite problems, dock leaves can be of great help. Just pulverize them and apply directly on the bite. The anti-histamine properties of the leaves can assist in easing the itch and pain

Acorns and oak bark have excellent medicinal properties to heal gastrointestinal problems. If you can find some acorns and oak bark, just boil it in water for 5 minutes and drink the concoction. It will help you fight diarrhea and other gastro-intestinal issues.

Take a piece of clothing that you can wrap around your head and soak it in your urine. Wrap this damp cloth around your head to stay cool. It may sound a bit gross, but trust me, it will be much comfortable with the pee-rag on your head!

Soren Kierkegaard, Frederick Nietzsche, Jean-Paul Sartre, and other towering figures of existentialism grasped that human beings are, at heart, moody creatures, susceptible to an array of psychological setbacks, crises of faith, flights of fancy, and other emotional ups and downs. Rather than understanding moods—good and bad alike—as afflictions to be treated with pharmaceuticals, this swashbuckling group of thinkers generally known as existentialists believed that such feelings not only offer enduring lessons about living a life of integrity, but also help us discern an inner spark that can inspire spiritual development and personal transformation. To listen to Kierkegaard and company, how we grapple with these feelings shapes who we are, how we act, and, ultimately, the kind of lives we lead.

One can also make more complex inferences from the survival distribution. In mechanical reliability problems, one can bring cost (or, more generally, utility) into consideration, and thus solve problems concerning repair or replacement. This leads to the study of renewal theory and reliability theory of ageing and longevity.

Africa Studio/ShutterstockGrab an ice cube. If you rub an ice cube on the spot between your thumb and index finger, it sends cold signals to your brain, which in turn can tamp down the pain signals coming from your tooth. In one study, people who did this reduced their pain levels by 50 percent compared to people who rubbed the spot with no ice. You can also try one of these toothache remedies.

If you need to cross a powerful river, Bear recommends anticipating where you think you’ll be spat out on the other side then giving yourself an extra 25% for safe measure. You can then use a backpack liner, an excellent flotation device, to help you on your way to the other side.

• Double half hitch: Used to attach one end of a rope around an object. This is a useful knot for building a shelter. Tie a half hitch around your object, like a tree or pole, and follow it by a second in the same direction to make it a double. Pull tight to make secure.

Have you ever been on a hike admiring the great views, gazing up at the tips of the trees, listening to the rustling of the leaves… and suddenly found yourself completely alone and lost? Naturally, the situation would give way to some level of panic and concern for your safety. While being lost in the woods can be a frightening experience, surviving alone in the wild is generally a matter of common sense, patience, and wisely using the gifts that nature provides. If you want to know how to survive in the woods, just follow these steps.

Force of mortality is a synonym of hazard function which is used particularly in demography and actuarial science, where it is denoted by μ {\displaystyle \mu } . The term hazard rate is another synonym.

Tent vs Tarp: Tents have an advantage over tarps — they zip tight and help protect from insects and snakes getting inside. The problem with a tent is that (unless it’s heavy duty canvas, which means bulk and weight) tents are prone to tearing and zippers breaking with repeat use. More expensive tents can have more life in them of course. If you have the budget for it consider a tent by North Face, Marmot, or Mountain Hardware — look for tents rated for use in areas like Mount Everest, as each of these brands has models used successfully on various expeditions. You want something that can withstand the beating that comes with repeat use if you plan on using your shelter for the long term.

I love the story of the man, lost in the woods, who freaked out and began running, desperately looking for a way out.
Tip: An air horn can also be used as a signaling system, alerting people who may be hunting or fishing to return to camp. Be sure to have a few re-fill cans, if you want long term use — air horns have a limited life span.

Of course, every survivalist is different and has different needs. Thus, no two survival gear stockpiles or survival kits will look the same. Some will undoubtedly want to stay away from purchasing battery or electricity dependent gear, for instance, while others will want to go the hyper-minimalist route, only buying what they think they will really need (and perhaps be able to carry in a single backpack). Don’t feel pressured into extending your list of survival gear by buying something you don’t really think you’ll use. Instead, scan this list for items that you might have forgotten or think would really compliment your needs as a survivalist.

There’s a wide variety of clothing that would be helpful in emergency and survival situations. On top of your day-to-day clothing, you may want to be sure to include at least a few of the items below in your clothing/apparel prepper gear stockpile.
I prefer the Eton FR 350 radio over the Ambient Weather Emergency Radio. The problem is that neither radio can really take the beating of a survival situation, and the price of the FR 350 has become ridiculous since they were discontinued. We have a money-making market available for anyone who can produce an emergency radio that uses alternative power sources and is built to withstand a real crisis.

What’s a “survival tool”? The answer is simple: anything that provides a function you need is a survival tool in the right circumstances. Human ingenuity and adaptation can never be underestimated, but being ready to perform certain functions, with redundancy in equipment, gives you a unique advantage in overcoming a survival obstacle. Cutting, tying, securing, adhering, direction-finding, marking, communicating – throw in any action you would like and there will be a need for it in any survival situation. These tools enable you to do all of that and more.

One of the things a person will learn in U.S. Special Forces survival training is that squirrels, rabbits, and other small mammals can make a quick meal. In the wilderness, all you need to know is how to read the ground around you and recognize areas that small mammals are likely to travel. Then set up a number of small, simple traps around the area (dead falls, snares, etc) and simply wait for traps to spring.

FM 3-06 Combined Arms Operations in Urban Terrain – Combat techniques for an urban environment, including target engagement, situational awareness, crossing open areas, movement past windows, movement within a building, fighting positions etc. I hope you never need any of this but here it is just in case…

According to the Survival Life website, membership to the Lamplighter society provides an easy, practical way of obtaining information related to survival preparedness, without having to spend years of trial and error. With this in mind, membership is claimed to provide the following benefits:

Enter the solar still, an easy-to-make contraption that uses a tarp or a piece of plastic to collect evaporated water from dirt. All you need to do is dig a hole in direct sunlight and drape your tarp over the opening. Secure the edges with logs, rocks, boxes of tampons—anything you have lying around. Then—and this is important—place a little pebble right in the middle of the tarp, so it pulls the plastic down into an upside-down pinnacle.

This is an investment in your career. The tools and information you will learn from this weekend will not only pay off the next time you get an assignment, but this is information you will carry with you for the rest of your career. The difference between guessing and actually understanding how to market yourself and price your work can often be thousands of dollars per assignment. You will be more informed, you will make better decisions, and leave nothing to guessing the next time you meet with a client, or prepare a bid.

We’ve thought about doing a bug out bag guide so many times before it’d be impossible to count, but somehow in 4 years, still haven’t actually published one. The why comes down to the fact that, unlike comprehensive lists – like of all…

Whew, the list AND comments is extensive. I’d add Entertainment next to Electronics. Lightweight and small boardgames such as checkers, dominoes, the old fashioned pick-up-sticks or jinga could be used during powe outtages or when one uses up all the batteries, and crayons (multiuses).

Plan, plan and plan! If you are going on proposed expedition, spend more time preparing it. Make sure that you play each possible scenario in your head before setting out. I know that a 100% prepared adventure is no adventure, but still, planning it makes it much safer. And that is what you want, right?

Emergency Radio with Multiple Ways to Keep it Powered — This Kaito emergency radio has 5 power sources including AA battery, internal battery (which you can charge with an AC adaptor), hand crank, solar, and even USB/Dynamo. With so many options for keeping it powered, this radio or one with similar capabilities is highly recommended.

Do your research first. Don’t just trek off into the wilderness; get a solid understanding of your surroundings first. Studying a map of the area where you’re going — and making sure to bring it with you — will increase your chances of not getting lost tremendously. Educate yourself about the flora and fauna of the area you are exploring. Knowledge of the local plants and animals can save your life (for example knowing which plants are edible or knowing where the local colony of rattlesnakes make haven).

It was very intriguing to see that business people came out, by in large, the best from the whole debacle. Also, that bad as it was problems still presented opportunities, The sun continued to rise and set. People invested in cars, the country didn’t go back to horse and buggy.

One of the worst things about emergencies and disasters is that they catch people unprepared. So we figured we’d come up with a stack of tips that are so cool, you won’t have any trouble remembering them when it counts.

Having too much light from your flashlight could be dangerous at night depending on your situation. Placing a masking tape over the light will lessen the amount of light enough to give you a low profile while you enough to be able to work with.

winter survival kit survival 303 wiki

To trim a survival kit down to its top 10 essentials is to reveal the utmost necessary items for ad hoc shelter, warmth, communication, navigation, and sustenance in the deep backwoods. Here, then, are three survivalists’ lean lists of gear you should not be without in any wilderness situation.

That pepper spray will only cover you for the first day or two, and it won’t help you from further than 10′ away. What if your attacker(s) are armed? They’ve probably got better range than your pepper spray (even if it’s in a super soaker), and you better believe once the starving starts, you need good old fashioned lead ventilation (or the viable threat of it) to hold off the hungry. A 22 is a start but it won’t end threats quickly unless you’re Chris Kyle’s second coming.

After YouTube’s glaring censorship agenda set out to silence those who question the establishment, many have transitioned to a platform where their speech is not politically censored.  One such man is now disarming the climate change agenda and his DTube video is throwing all kinds of wrenches in the cogs of the propaganda machine.

I want to break down the three blades I’ll be using for all my backwoods and innasticks work this year. I’ve explained some of the rationale behind my selections; now I want to show exactly what I’m carrying and how I expect they’ll fill all the to…

But don’t make the mistake of thinking that being in a survival situation would be fun. Wilderness Survival is not a game, there is no reward challenges, and there is no immunity. How do you think you would fare in a survival situation? Could you build a shelter? Could you light a fire without matches? Could you forage for food and purify water? In real life you don’t have luxury items, you don’t get tarps and matches and camping supplies. In real life you may not have any tools except your own two hands. If you were stranded in the wilderness would you end up a survivor?

NOTE — A micro torch relies on fuel; when your fuel runs out, you have no more flame. You need back-up fuel (butane in this case) if you want several month’s use in an extended survival situation. One thing to note: A canister of butane is cheap and just one can go a long ways and is also easy to use). Consider both back-up butane and even a back up torch in case of rare equipment failure (or to even use as a bartering item; there’s a good chance someone else is going to want one after they see how easy it is to start a fire).

WOW. I’m floored by how quickly my limited Patreon tiers sold out… I didn’t expect that at all!! Thank you all so much!! I’ve added another $10 tier for batches of cookies, since the other $10 tier sold out. I’m hoping maybe I’ll get a lot speedier at recording covers so I can add more of those too?? Anyway, if you wanna join this community you can do it for free or $1+ 🙂 https://www.patreon.com/srvvlgd

I too am using Home Depot orange buckets. Very good sealing gasketed lids and the price is right. I contacted the manufacturer and they assured me they are not food grade. My bags and oxygen absorbers arrive tomorrow, and it begins…..

Things can get frustrating when it comes to finding adequate sources of food when you are in survival mode, especially since malnutrition will work you mentally and physically, making you feel weak, cranky and delirious. It’s a good idea to get familiar with edible wild berries and plants for future reference when out in the wild. Also, it’s time to grow up and banish the word  “picky” from your vocabulary. When it comes to survival, embrace anything and everything (carefully) including bugs, eggs, fruit, leaves. Learn to build some simple traps to catch small animals and don’t rely on just one single food source. Protein is important for strength; know what various nutrients your body needs for prime sustainability.

This is a rather unusual but very useful alternative to the typical bug out pack. The shape of the bag will allow you to store an unbelievable large amount of things. Plus, it’s very inconspicuous, especially when a hiker’s or camper’s backpack is often the easiest way to spot a person who isn’t from around the area, which can have its disadvantages. It’s a good way to pack lots of stuff without sticking out in public.

The tiny house movement continues to gain momentum, and it’s not crazy-hard to understand why. While moving into a 200- square- foot home is a huge change if you’re used to living in a 1,000- or 2,000- square- foot residence, there are many benefits to tiny house living. If you are looking to seriously downsize, review why a tiny house might be exactly what you need.

A leaked United Nations report is claiming that the rogue regime of North Korea sent chemical weapons to Syria. According to the report, 40 items used in chemical warfare and ballistic missiles in the war-torn nation of Syria were sent by North Korea.

If you can spot bees, it is always a great sign. It means that not only there is a hive full of honey nearby, but also a water source. Bees are usually found within about 4-5-mile radius of a water body.

By contrast, the p-value for sex is now p=0.088. The hazard ratio HR = exp(coef) = 1.58, with a 95% confidence interval of 0.934 to 2.68. Because the confidence interval for HR includes 1, these results indicate that sex makes a smaller contribution to the difference in the HR after controlling for the thickness of the tumor, and only trend toward significance. Examination of graphs of log(thickness) by sex and a t-test of log(thickness) by sex both indicate that there is a significant difference between men and women in the thickness of the tumor when they first see the clinician.

If you don’t have a lighter or any matches, you will have to start the fire by hand. If you find enough tinder (small material, such as dry grass, feathers or bark shavings, that burns easily) you can usually use the energy from the sun to start a fire with a magnifying glass, a lens from your glasses, a piece of broken glass, a cover to a watch or compass, or other clear, light-intensifying objects. It is very difficult to start a fire by friction; your best bet is to carry a variety of fire-starting implements.

Glow sticks come in all shape, form, and colors. The ones you want are not those party things that you can wear like a necklace. You want to buy the ones that have a high light output. These glow sticks can last for years in your kit. However, it is advisable that you change them before they reach their expiration date.

If you start hearing strange voices, noises or even banjo music, it is vital to control your emotions. The USAF Survival Manual stresses, “A survivor’s psychological state greatly influences their ability to successfully return from a survival situation.”

A vaccine for a parasite is in the testing phase in the Netherlands.  The world’s most devastating parasite is said to cause the human body to disintegrate, and in order to test a vaccine, 17 people have had the parasite injected into their bodies.

These are some excellent tips for sure! I will definitely be making separate B.O.B., home, car, etc. articles, but I wanted to have one that was just a huge list of kit people may have missed out on using with regards to just everything all at once. I know it’s a bit of a mess, but still hope it’s helpful to some to have the suggestions like this (a.k.a. all in one place). But yes! Definitely a good idea to have separation, which I will definitely do (eventually) with some new articles.
